2018 Travel Re-Cap | NYE Celebration and a look ahead at travel for January 2019Happy New Year! It's a windy windy day here in SoCal and I'm about ready to turn the TV on and watch the Pasadena Rose Parade - hopefully all of the beautiful roses don't get blown away! For those of you who don't know, the city of Pasadena is also located right here in SoCal. And for the famous parade you can choose to either camp out on the curb (for free) over night for a "good" spot or be like me and purchase tickets for a bleacher seat...which is what I've opted to do on the 2 occasions that I've gone. I've gone once on January 1, 2016 and once on January 2, 2017... You might be scratching your head wondering about how and why I went on January 2 and thinking that I probably would've missed the parade all together. lol Well it so happens that there is a "never on a Sunday" policy that has been in place since 1893 and that totally works for me. Because I'm not a big fan of having to head out to Pasadena in the dark and the wee hours of the morning after a long night of celebrating NYE and ringing in the New Year just a mere few hours earlier. I'd much rather opt to stay home and watch it on the boob tube - such as today. However if the parade is going to be held on Jan. 2nd that is like having my cake and eating it too! Being able to celebrate NYE, then New Year's Day and then having an extra day to go out and be a part of the Rose Parade celebration is really doing it all. Which we all know I like to do!! As far as how we celebrated NYE, well it was pretty mellow - as usual. NYE is my mom's birthday and I'm pretty sure that she had a nice day spent with her kids, their spouses and all 4 of her grandkids. The whole group of us all ventured out to have a nice sushi lunch at Huntington Ramen and Sushi, then had cake at home followed by playing board games the rest of the night until it was time to watch the ball drop. AT THE RESTAURANT: A PEEK AT SOME OF THE VEGAN SUSHI: CAKE TIME AT HOME: RING IN THE NEW YEAR: All in all it was pleasant night, though not particularly memorable. It was exactly the type of day that my dear ol' mom prefers. I'm obviously the one in the family who likes to go out and do it all and she is always at home wondering WHY??? lol On that note let me share with you just a few upcoming places of travel that I will be sharing with you and blogging from during the month of January:
Now if that isn't starting my travel year off right then I don't know what is?! Time for me to sign off. Have a great Holiday! -Travelin' Tanya |
