Tanya's Daily Scoop
CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: BRECKENRIDGE, COLORADO

For the Love of Skiing!

Good Day from Breckenridge, Colorado!

We had a fantastic day out on the slopes yesterday, although it was quite FREEZING, we had Beautiful Blue Bird Skies, and it was nothing short of fabulous!!!

Look at the Frost in my hair!

Breckenridge is Cosette's FAVORITE ski resort, and she had even told me that on the first couple of runs that she wanted to hug the mountain!!

Then after a great day on the slopes, we met up with Dave back in the suite and all headed to catch another flick.
This time we went to see Grudge Match staring Robert DeNiro, and Sylvester Stallone - about a pair of aging boxing rivals who are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout -- 30 years after their last match.
Picture
It was both cute and kinda funny. I'm pretty sure that we all enjoyed it!

Kim Basinger played Stallone's love interest, and both Dave and I were SHOCKED as to how great she's aged - or not aged!

We are constantly commenting about other actors/actresses who may not have aged so gracefully (to be kind), and who have had major work done.
But Basinger looks naturally beautiful and to hardly have aged at all!

Gotta give props where it is due. She has amazingly youthful complexion and doesn't look like she's aged since 1993!
This was even quoted from her look-a-like daughter, Ireland Baldwin “Ladies, if you want to avoid Botox and other skin treatments, listen to my mom! She hasn’t had one treatment done because she’s stayed completely out of the sun all these years!"

WTG Kim and Screw all those plastic Faces!

Anyhoo, back to us...
Later in the evening Dave C. had caught a shuttle and braved the cold to head back to Denver and then back to the OC.

What's wrong with this picture?

Good Bye Dave!
Meanwhile my crazy kids wanted to make a splash and hit the pool!
I mean don't all kids want to hit the pool when it's only 9 degrees out and feels like 0?!

Brrrr is all I've got to say.

Skiing in weather that feels like -13 degrees while all bundled up is one thing, but swimming while practically naked when it feels like 0 is something totally different!

Maybe they are training for the Polar Bear Club?

And that was our day. Don't forget to check out Elisa's column and all of the cool information that she has gathered in her 16 Cool Facts about Breckenridge, Colorado! ------>>>------>>>
------->>>------>>>------>>>------>>>

As far as today goes, I thought we were gonna hit the slopes, but Cosette woke up sore and asked if we switch days off.
So no slopes for us until tomorrow.

Lastly being that it is W2GW - I thought I'd let you know about a special event that is being held right here in Breckenridge:
Picture
INTERNATIONAL SNOW SCULPTURE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Snow artists from around the world will compete to create massive 3-D works of art from January 26–30. Starting as 12-foot-tall, 20-ton blocks of snow and using only hand tools, artists achieve finished pieces across five days of sculpting. The sculptures are located in the area around the Riverwalk Center at 150 W. Adams Avenue and will remain on display until February 7 (weather permitting).

We went to this event in 2014, and will be heading there again on Saturday! Hope to see you there!

That's all folks,
-T

16 Cool Facts about Breckenridge

Hi There!  Can hardly believe it's Wednesday already.  The week has flew by with the snow day on Monday and then having Kelsey home with a bad cold - poor kid.

In any case, here we are, half-way through the last week of January.
Picture
We made the most of Kelsey being home yesterday with her cuddled on the couch relaxing to some Mommy & Daughter coloring and even caught a movie.

Believe it or not, I had never seen the film, Ella Enchanted, even though it was released in 2004, and I have to say, it was quite adorable.

A little bit fairy tale, fantasy and magic.  We definitely enjoyed it!
Picture
Well, while I'm finalizing lots of bookings for my February & March Stay-cation here in New York City, Tanya is still traveling snow country!

For the past 13 days, it's been a snowy wonderland of skiing throughout Colorado, with the past few in Breckinridge.  How's about a closer look at this world-renown ski destination.

16 Cool Facts about Breckinridge, Colorado
1. Long before white settlers from the east crossed the Continental Divide, the area that would become Breckenridge was part of the summer hunting grounds of the nomadic White River and Middle Park Ute Native Americans.

2. As early as 1840, the establishment of a town was the result of America's mid-nineteenth- century rush to settle the West and by 1859 the Pike's Peak Gold Rush was on, and discovery of gold in the Breckenridge area brought miners and fortune seekers to the "Blue River Diggings.”

3. The town of Breckenridge was formally established in November 1859 by General George E. Spencer's prospecting company to serve the miners.

4. One of the stories behind the name "Breckenridge"    is that Spencer named it after John C. Breckenridge of Kentucky, 14th Vice President of the United States, in the hopes of flattering the government and gaining a post office.

5. Breckenridge was home to the first post office between the Continental Divide and Salt Lake City, Utah.

6. The town of Breckenridge is 7 miles long and 2 miles wide.

7. Breckenridge was inadvertently left off a U.S. map in the mid-1800s and became known as “Colorado’s Kingdom” until the mistake was discovered nearly a half a century later.

11. Breckenridge is home to the world’s only 27-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed municipal course.

12. The Breckenridge Arts District is home to Historic tours, cooking classes and theater performances.

13. There are approximately 97 Restaurants and Bars, 219 Shops/Boutiques and 249 Historic District Structures in the town.

15. Average Winter temperatures are 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 degrees Celsius) in the daytime and
15 degrees Fahrenheit (-9 degrees Celsius) at night.

16. Breckenridge is located in Summit County, in north central Colorado. This is the heart of the Rocky Mountains, it is:
- 86 miles west of Denver
- 106 miles to the southeast of Colorado Springs
- 34 miles to the west of Vail.
- 100 miles to the north of  Steamboat Springs
- Less than 20 miles from the County's three other ski resorts--Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin.
