Happy Sunday!!

How are you doing today. Similarly to SoCal, the weather is not full of sunshine - while it's gloriously raining in Tanya's neck of the woods, it's merely gray and "on the verge" of raining here on Long Island.

But, my day is full of lots of "to-do's" and the weather will not really affect that.

First thing this morning, we have a special mass at church for the 5th Grade, so Kelsey and her classmates will be in attendance.

Then Gianna has a friend coming over all afternoon to work on lots of homework and a school project.

That will leave time for me and Kelsey to do mommy and daughter bonding. She'll join me on my errands (real exciting ones!!) to the grocery store, Petco and Staples. We always manage to have fun!

Unlike Tanya and her gang, I am not a big football fan, but I'm sure they will have lots of fun cheering on their teams!!

I was, however, doing some research today and stumbled upon a few interesting things happened on this day in history, so I wanted to share them with you.

This Day in Air Travel:

1970: The Boeing 747 makes its first commercial passenger trip to London, England. This flight had departed from New York City, and had carried 332 passengers and 18 crew. Although most passengers enjoyed the flight, one had mentioned that this plane is too big for commercial travel (too big to give anyone proper service.

This Day in Famous Tourist Sites:

1930 - Empire State Building
Excavation for the Empire State Building began. When completed only 410 days after the construction began, it stood as the world's tallest building.

LUNAR MODULE SPACE PROBE (credit: airandspace..si.edu)

This Day in Space Travel:

1968: America's first Lunar Module (space probe) was to be launched on this day. This module was said to be shaped like a huge bug, and weight about 16 tons.

The Lunar Module would be unmanned and the plan was to send it to the moon.
This launching was scheduled in order to test this unit's capability for landing on the moon, as well as its ability to lift off properly. The Apollo 5 mission was scheduled a year after the fatal accident that took place while launching the manned Apollo I rocket.

This Day in Rail Travel:

1972: Unfortunately, this was a very unfortunate day.
A petroleum rail car had ruptured and exploded while switching tracks on the East St. Louis, Illinois railway. No deaths were reported as a result of this incident, but at least 150 people were injured-mostly by cut glass that flew for quite a distance.

What's really interesting is that while doing research, I discovered (a bit late for our friends in Chicago so a big sorry) - that this weekend (yesterday and today) the 2017 Chicago Travel & Adventure Show.

The show features endless vacation options with an opportunity to explore destinations around the world, personalize your vacation options with travel experts and save big with exclusive travel deals and show-only travel deals.

There will also be some celeb travelers on site, including Rick Steves, Pauline Frommer and Peter Greenberg to name a few.

Traveling in my Backyard

Hiya!

It's a glorious rainy Sunday here in SoCal. It's suppose to be the biggest storm that we've had yet...guess we'll see about that.

I'm welcoming every rain drop with open arms and today I'm just gonna be a bit of a couch potato! Ouch did I just say that?!

Anyhow today is gonna be all about the NFL playoffs and finding out which 2 teams are going to the Super Bowl!

While I am certainly not a big NFL fan (MLB is my thing), I can definitely appreciate playoffs and what makes these all that much more exciting is that 2 of the teams with potential of making it into the Super Bowl have big fans in my household!!!

Andrew is a BIG Green Bay Packers fan, and Dave C. is a longtime New England Patriots fan. While I am not really a fan of either, I've gotta say that I am an anti-fan of New England teams and will be rooting/cheering against those darn Patriots.

You might ask yourself why, but more or less it's a New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox mentality that spreads across all of the New England teams.

Anyhoo - I imagine that there will be great excitement and as usual when I plop myself in front of a game I need some great snacks too!

While today I'll be plopping, yesterday was all about running around and being a tourist in my own backyard...

We replaced the outing with going to my favorite - Huntington Library & Gardens
