Two Day Trips from Park City

Hello and welcome to a great Thursday here on T.C.!

First I want to report that my toes are healed!!! YAY!! I couldn't be happier.  They feel perfect when I walk today. But, just to be safe, I'm going to take it easy today and tomorrow to be sure I don't aggravate the injury.

Last night, me and the girls hit the  Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, Long Island for a little shopping and eating.

Gianna was successful in getting both of her friends birthday presents for their parties this weekend.

I just followed along basically.

Gianna's favorite store, hands down, is LUSH.

She managed to get her one of her friends a gift there and also mentioned to me what she would like (in case I was interesting!) for her birthday coming up in May!

Tanya and Cosette hit the City Creek Center for some shopping and sightseeing.  Check out her pictures.

Today, they will be hitting the slopes in Park City!
Wishing them lots of fun!

While there is a great deal to do in Park City, it is also convenient to several other locations for enjoyable day trips.

Let's take a look at a few:

Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (credit: total mortgage)
Salt Lake City, often shortened to Salt Lake or SLC, is the capital and the most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Utah and is located approximately 30 miles from Park City.

Brigham Young founded Salt Lake City, Utah, as a Mormon settlement in 1847.

The city is bordered by the waters of the Great Salt Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Range.

Key Points of Interest:

Temple Square
Downtown is located the 10-acre Temple Square, which is headquarters of the Mormon Church and  home to the majestic, 19th-century Salt Lake Temple and the neo-Gothic Assembly Hall.

The State Capitol

The Brigham Young Monument
The Brigham Young Monument is a bronzed historical monument located on the north sidewalk of the intersection at Main and South Temple Streets of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Brigham Young Monument was first displayed at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. It stood briefly afterwards on Temple Square and was then transferred centering the intersection of Main and South Temple streets in 1897, where it stood until 1993, when it was moved a few yards north to its present location.

Salt Lake Tabernacle
The Salt Lake Tabernacle, also known as the Mormon Tabernacle, is located on Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Sugar House Park
Sugar House Park, or Sugarhouse Park, is located between I-80, 2100 South, 1300 East, and 1700 East in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City.

Antelope Island

VIEW FROM BUFFALO POINT, ANTELOPE ISLAND (credit: wiki)
Another day trip, approximately 30 miles north of Salt Lake City and bit further at 72  miles from Park City is Antelope Island.

If you love nature and Viewiing wildlife and migrant birds, a hike along the white beaches in these  remains of an inland sea is the perfect day trip.

Antelope Island State Park is a Utah State Park and the entire island is included in the park and it covers an area of 42 square miles (109 km2), is the largest of 10 islands located within the Great Salt Lake, Utah.
Picture
MAP OF ANTELOPE ISLAND ISLAND STATE PARK (credit: US State Parks)
The island is full of natural scenic beauty and holds populations of pronghorn, bighorn sheep, American bison, porcupine, badger, coyote, bobcat, and millions of waterfowl, particularly in the northwest quadrant of the island at Buffalo Point and White Rock Bay, where mountains and hills overlook beaches as well as the reflecting waters of the Great Salt Lake and other islands that are visible in the lake.

If you are thinking of visiting in late Summer, there is a  balloon festival held yearly, around Labor Day. Birdwatching on Antelope Island is  also very popular and well known. and of course hiking and cycling are common activities.

Interestingly, water is scarce and there are few trees on the island.

Well, the rest of my day is pretty busy - we are going to the gym later this afternoon after Gianna gets out of play rehearsal.

I'm not going to push myself too hard - but I may do the elliptical and a yoga class if one if happening while I'm there.

The three of us may get a bite to eat and head home.  The good -- I should say -- great news --- is that there is no school tomorrow.  It's some kind of Teachers' Professional Day.  YAY!!

See ya back tomorrow!!

-E

CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN:
PARK CITY, UTAH

Our rainy day in SLC

Howdy ya'll!

GREETINGS FROM PARK CITY, UTAH!

I'm only bopping in at the moment - today appears to finally be the day...

We will be hitting the slopes!!!!

Sooooooo with that being said - I will be back this afternoon (after 4pm) to report on all the happenings of yesterday.

For now I will add a few photos but I will do all the explaining later ;)

The mountains are calling me and I must go!

I'll meet ya back here later for details.

LATER:

Well lookie lookie, I'm back and I'm gonna fill ya in on all the fun we had yesterday...

Since the weather had called for rain all day long, we took a rain day and headed to Salt Lake City for some shopping fun!!

Upon arriving at City Creek Center, we had drove right past the Salt Lake City Convention Center also known as The Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center - which happens to be in the very heart of the city.

Claim to fame:
It had served as the Olympic Media Center during the 2002 Winter Olympics.

More currently a new art installation ”Point of View,” in front of the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center. The piece, created by Maine artist Aaron T Stephan, is designed to become the place to have one’s picture taken in Salt Lake City.
*Of which we did not happen to do.

There happens to be 2 hours of free parking in the garage located beneath the mall and additional free hour with restaurant validation totally potentially 3 hours of free parking - this was an awesome deal!

How many other downtown cities can boast any free parking???

Well as for us we were off to go shopping...

We had bopped in and out of every store that might have caught our interest.  We started on the Nordstrom side of the mall and once we had crossed the bridge and before we had even stepped inside Cosette had already smelled LUSH - this girl is truly obsessed!

I cannot express to you how obsessed she is - she is always either watching a video about the products, reading the catalogs, on the website adding more and more into her cart...the list goes on.

She knows the products inside and out - and has taken me inside of more LUSH stores that I ever thought possible.

And yet neither of us (Cosette and I) had any idea until reading Elisa's scoop that LUSH is Gianna's favorite store as well!

I'm so glad that these girls are fans of such a great company where everything is cruelty-free and vegetarian!

So of course if we were going to be at the mall for a few hours we were going to be picking up a few things here and there.

Once we were all done it was lunchtime and we headed on over to an all vegan French Bakery...
Picture

We pulled up and parked at Passion Flour Patisserie just in the nick of time before thunder struck and we watched the lightening crash.

Lunch was very relaxing as we watched the rain fall and the food and pastries were much enjoyed.

Once lunch was done, we were off to the bookstore, then hit Old Navy, and Whole Foods all before heading back to our resort so that I could watch the last game of the World Baseball Classic.

I can honestly say that yesterday was probably one of Cosette's favorite vacation days ever!

Heck even I can't say that it was too shabby - whenever is a shopping spree shabby?!

And there ya have it. Until tomorrow..

Ciao 4 now,
-T
