Balloon Fiesta - Again!Happy Sunday from Albuquerque, New Mexico! Well, unlike yesterday, Elisa, here is actually going to Balloon Fiesta. I was feeling so under the weather yesterday and today, I'm back in the wattle, rearin' to go and see me some balloons!!! Yesterday, the gang enjoyed watching the launch of 500+ hot air balloons. They loved it so much, that even though we were only supposed to go one morning, they all decided to go back this morning - lucky for me, I get to experience this incredible event with the entire gang. So, that will be our fun morning. Following the balloon fiesta, we will head over to Sandia Peak for a ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway. Now, I have been unsure as to whether I was brave enough to take this ride which transports sightseers above deep canyons and breathtaking terrain for a distance of 2.7 miles. I'm going to see how I feel once we get there. Kelsey was not sure either, so I will leave this decision up to Kelsey. If she wants to go, I will go; if not, we will hike around and wait for the rest of the gang to return. I will be sure to let you know what we ended up doing! Tonight is something I am really looking forward to! We are going to the GLOW at Balloon Fiesta Park. This is when all the hot air balloons fire their burners and light up at the same time. It is supposed to be spectacular!!! Last night, we had a great time visiting the Old Town. We browsed the many shops, enjoyed listening to the music being played by the band in the gazebo, walking around the flea market of San Felipe de Neri and having a Mexican family dinner. What I can tell you is just how great it is to be together with my cousins. To me, what's amazing is how before July 2013, Tanya and I hadn't seen each other in over 30 years. Who would have ever thought we would be traveling around the globe together, writing a blog together and that our kids have grown so close to one another a little more than a year later! Tomorrow we hit the road for Taos. Looking onward to chatting with you from the road! Hope your Sunday is fabulous! -E | Hot Air Balloons & More!!!Hellooo there readers! So glad to have you following along side us on our Cousins New Mexico Road Trip!! Yesterday was a rather L O N G day, so long that it actually felt like at least 2 days! Being necessary to get an early start and get our butts over to the Balloon Fiesta Park in time for the Dawn Patrol and the Mass Ascension, we initially figured that going one morning was going to be enough for us (I mean who wants to keep waking up at 3:30am?!) Well, experiencing the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta just once was not enough for us! We are all decided to say "screw sleep" and wake up super early for a second day in a row and head back over to the Fiesta! (Only issue is that some of us just refuse to go to sleep early! You can probably guess which ones!!) LOL Anyhow, what does all of this mean for you? Lots more pictures!! Speaking of which, have you checked out all of the pictures that were posted on FaceBook yesterday? The rest of day consisted of checking out the sites of Old Town, having a lovely Family Meal, got to try a local pastry (Sopapilla), went to the pool, and had a late night vegan sushi snack! And as for today, after watching all of the 550 hot air balloons launch back up into the blue sky this morning, we will be heading up the 2.7 mile aerial tram to Sandia Peak! Looking down at Albuquerque and beyond from 9,702ft; we'll be getting the best view in town! After doing that, we are hoping to grab some lunch and then squeeze in a visit to the Rio Grande Bontanical Gardens (which appear to be quite beautiful!) This is all happening before we head back to Balloon Fiesta Park one last time and witness the Night time "Glow', and firework spectacular! Dave B. had a great weekend visit with us, getting to see the sights and sounds of what make up Albuquerque. He got all of his postcards in the mail, and also somehow managed to get plenty of sleep (waaaaay more than any of us...don't ask how). But as for tonight, he will be leaving us directly from the Balloon Fiesta and heading back to Anaheim Hills and then off to work again on Monday morning. We'll look forward to seeing him again next weekend! Okay, I'm gonna get back to being a tourist! Hope you have a great Sunday :) Meet ya back here tomorrow for all the new scoop! -T |
