Happy Birthday America!Happy Fourth of July!! Do you have fun plans for the weekend?! Usually we are always in Remsenburg on the Fourth. Originally, we were planning to leave for the Hamptons last night, but, we got hit with a thunder and lightening storm. Along the east coast, most people have been bracing themselves for Hurricane Arthur as it touched down on the coast of NC last night and moving north today. The weather has clearly interfered with many vacationers' plans, and with the rain, it is sure to get in the way of many outdoor July 4th celebrations today. Thankfully, a beautiful Saturday and Sunday are predicted on Long Island, so our plan is to spend some time out east this weekend. I'm sending positive wishes to all my 22,000 east coast neighbors that have lost power due to "Arthur" and hope things are back to normal soon enough. Travel wise, (and with the right conditions), here is an awesome list of the Top 10 Places to Celebrate Independence Day assembled by Sherman Travel. What I love about this list versus other lists is that it ranks these destinations based on their patriotic celebrations! I know Tanya has been cooking it up in the kitchen, making lots of great food for her family's celebration out in SoCal. And of course, in addition to being The Fourth of July, here on Travelin' Cousins, it's also Foodie Friday. I can't wait to read Tanya's story today about Hula Dogs in Hawaii! I'm sure, as usual, her photographs of yummy culinary delights are going to make my mouth water. Happy Independence Day!!! Have fun & be safe! -E America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality. ~Adlai Stevenson | Stars and Stripes "aaahs & ooohs" with a bang, blast, ka-boom, crackle, fizzle, & pop! Wow! What a Great day for July Fourth to fall on! A Friday, hopefully giving most people a 3-day weekend! Yippie! And of course with it being a Friday, you know what that means... It's Foodie Friday! So today I take you to the beautiful islands of Hawaii - to eat Hula Dogs! I guess that's kind of fitting, being the Fourth of July and all the bbqs going on...right?! The Fourth of July here in SoCal (in this house) is almost like a summer Thanksgiving. I feed these guys a small feast, and they look forward to it every year (that I'm in town). We aren't big picnic or bbq people, but come The Fourth of July celebration, that's the one occasion that I go all out and bbq-y on these peeps-o-mine! Today, unlike most other Fourths we are going to split the meal into 2 sessions. We'll have an early afternoon session, because this year Dominic & Cosette have a patriotic performance to sing for Long Beach City College at Vets Stadium and a 4pm call time. We've decided that after the performance we are going to head straight back to Anaheim Hills to watch the local firework show at Peralta Park. 2 reasons why: 1-we prefer to watch the fireworks with family, 2-the traffic getting out of Vets stadium after their fireworks show is going to be bloody awful! Then once the show is all said and done with, we will all gather back at the house to chow down on some more grub! I've also got to make sure that I put the finishing touches on my packed bag, because we are heading to San Diego for the rest of the weekend first thing in the morning! So whatever your plans are and whatever you do to celebrate America's Birthday, please stay safe, don't do anything stupid, and try to have some good old fashioned fun! -T "May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right" -Peter Marshall |
