It's a Yippie-Ka-Yay Kinda Day!!So as it turns out that we didn't go canoeing yesterday after-all. During the process of us renting our bikes, I overheard some employees discussing a recent canoers return and how they were so glad that they made it back okay. Because...apparently these guys had go out and perform a rescue just a bit earlier to bring back some people that were having a tough time, caught up the river in the extra rough tides (due to the high winds)...That was enough for little 'ol me to hear...Oki doki - I'll give it a try another time and perhaps give it a go tomorrow! Well tomorrow is now here and it definitely seems less windy so far. The employee at the rental shop mentioned that the early mornings are the best time to avoid the winds that tend to pick as the day progresses. While Elisa is having a lovely time with family at the exciting air show at Jones Beach. After canoeing, we will also be heading to the beach. This one however is in Fort Bragg, about 10 miles north of Mendocino. We'll be exploring the smoothed out gemstone like colored sea glass sparkling in the sunlight & surrounded by the majestic coastal redwoods; checking out the aromatic florals at the botanical gardens and then doing a sunset horseback ride on the beach!!! I've actually never rode on the beach before...I can't wait!!! So, I guess we're kinda sharing a cousins Sunday at beach after all - just on different coasts with different oceans - the Atlantic & the Pacific. "Life is a Beach, and I'm just playing in the Sand" -T | Greetings from Jones Beach Air Show!! At Jones Beach Field 4 at Bethpage Air Show That's us after arriving at Field 4 at Jones Beach this morning. I'm sooo happy we left Remsenburg at 7:00 today because even when we arrived at 8:30, the parking lot was filling up fast. It is amazing how full the beach already was at this early hour, considering the show didn't start till 10! We found a perfect spot on the beach, right near the water; we dug our umbrella in the sand, laid out the blankets and took out the cameras. The kids had a blast in the sand and the water, and eventually started on an eat-a-thon of sandwiches and goodies in our cooler. What a glorious day it was - you couldn't ask for better weather - sunny, with a very comfortable, light breeze. The show started with a breathtaking amazing entrance with a US army paratrooper landing while the National Anthem was played. Within minutes, the first flying performer was front and center, doing unbelievable twists and turns in the air, flying upside down, leaving a trail of white smoke behind him in all kinds of twirls! He was followed by two synchronized flyers moving in tandem across the sky at top speeds above the sparkling ocean, creating shapes with their smoke - most memorable was a huge heart! The sky was so clear, that the smoke designs created by each plane were extremely clear and detectable. The performers kept coming, one after the next. Teams of skydivers made synchronized landings, some onto the beach, while others fell gracefully into the water. It was very exciting as each new plane made its entrance, speeding by, making their way up, climbing higher while doing loop di loops, and then nose diving towards the water, quickly leveling off before touchdown! At certain points it felt as if these planes were going to just fall and land in the crowd! The skillful upside down flying was truly the highlight for me!! Overall, an amazing morning for all of us! Now, for some R & R back home! Couldn't agree more with Tanya "life is a beach!" ~E  This was amazing - notice how the wind from the propellers is kicking up the ocean water - it got us by-standers all wet! |
