Elisa's Daily Scoop Great View Throw-backs and moreGood day!! So, today is the official first FULL day of school for my girlies, which means, I'm back to making lunch. We're turning over a new leaf this year - a basil leaf, that is. Gianna loves basil, so I'm going to be including basil on her sandwiches and wraps each day. Let me enlighten you with some facts about this amazingly delicious spice... Although more than 60 varieties of basil have been identified, they all fall into three main types: sweet, purple, and bush. Basil is considered one of the healthiest herbs and rich in nutrients including Vitamin K, essential for blood clotting, vitamin A, which contains beta-carotenes, powerful antioxidants that protect the cells lining a number of numerous body structures, including the blood vessels, from free radical damage - helping to prevent atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and stroke. It's also rich in iron, calcium, manganese, magnesium, vitamin C and potassium. Not surprisingly, basil also has antibacterial properties and contains DNA-protecting flavonoids. Needless to say, I'm pleased as punch Gianna enjoys it and the more the merrier for her! I have a pretty jam-packed day myself. First is my morning walk - still trying to get Punkin to walk beyond the driveway - she's so scared poor girl. Cooking dinner next so it's ready by the time the kids get home. Then, I have to head over to my dad's and help him with some work he's having done around the house. For an 81 year old, my dad gets around and is so active, but sometimes, he just needs some physical help lately. After that, I'll be going food shopping, a visit to the dry cleaners to pay my bill and then back home in time for the kiddies. Homework started yesterday, and so begins the school year.
