Hello Everyone! My oh my is it gonna be a scorcher of a weekend here in SoCal. We are talking about highs around 110F - YIKERS!!! Unlike most of the time, where I am out and about and traveling...this weekend I'll be staying indoors and with the A/C blasting. With it being so darned HOT, it's got me thinking about some sipping on a refreshing COLD drink! Lemonade is a favorite of mine that I order around the globe. Here is a delightful recipe for a Strawberry Lemonade: However, when I am in the tropics it is all about the tropical flavors of pineapple and coconut. And a yummy Virgin Pina Colada! Then not to be too boring or dull, but to mix both of these refreshing summer drinks along with something that's been on my mind (Disney World). How about a DOLE whip Lemonade!! Well now I'm thirsting! I'll be back and so a catch up with you about my trip along the Oregon Coast. Along with how my plans are coming along for our upcoming trip to Florida and Disney World. Have a great weekend. -Travelin' Tanya | Howdy Folks! Beautiful Saturday here on Long Island! Before I go any further, just an apology for no Scoop yesterday. Pretty ironic that both Tanya and I had serious internet issues and after hours of frustration, I just could not get my blog completed with coordinating photos and proper links. As a result, we will be publishing our intended "Mini Road Trip" story originally scheduled for yesterday, in next Friday's Blog. Stay tuned for "10 Things To Do Road Trippin' from Queens to Nassau County | From Multicultural Museums to Ethnic Dining" Back to the day at hand -- I started off today with a lovely visit to Starbucks with my best girl Gianna in tow. With a refreshing breeze and enjoyable temps in the low 70's, it was a glorious morning to sit outside and enjoy our beverages. The weather forecast is calling for sunshine all weekend through Monday - so get out there and celebrate this Labor Day weekend! The good news is that while we are still very much limited with the Covid-19 mandates, things are opening up to accommodate doing more than just staying home. We have come up with a few suggestions for some spontaneous weekend fun! Spontaneous Things to Do on Labor Day Weekend 1. Go on a Mini Road Trip Who says you have to plan far in advance to go on a close-to-home mini road trip? Just pack an overnight bag and jump in the car and drive! No matter where you are located, there is probably a ton of local sites, attractions and events this weekend that you and your gang can enjoy. Whether you live near the NYC outer boroughs or in Northern California, be spontaneous and see where the local roads lead you! Go on a Picnic Forget about the traditional Labor Day barbeque and take your lunch to go! Nothing beats an old fashioned outdoor dining in a lovely park, the mountains or a by a lake. Grab a blanket and your favorite picnic food and you are all set. Go Fishing A very relaxing pastime, fishing (or even just casting a line into the water with no intention of catching anything!) is such a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon. Grab your gear, take along some munchies and set out for a day on the nearest pier. Even city dwellers can find great fishing locations for a bit of fishing enjoyment. Take a HIke It makes no difference if you go to your closest local or state park or head to nearby mountains to enjoy an invigorating hike outdoors. I just love walking around the lake at nearby Hempstead State Lake Park on Long Island, where the sun rays bounce off the water and there's plenty of forest area around to feel like I'm somewhere off the beaten path in the middle of the woods. Staycation Backyard Camping Talk about spontaneous and not too far to travel!! Enjoy a family night under the stars right in your backyard. Set up the tent, roast marshmallows and make s'mores - all only yards away from your back door. The best part - indoor bathroom, kitchen and running water!! Daycation at a Lighthouse Lighthouses are so cool and a fun way to spend the day for kids and adults alike. Take an impromptu daycation to visit your nearest beacon of light, most of which have lovely grounds to walk around. If you are in the New York Tri-State area, enjoy a visit to The National Lighthouse Museum in Staten Island. For the nearest lighthouse near you, check out this lighthouse list. Here's to a fun, festive and safe weekend!! - Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
