One big GREETINGS from Croatia. I'm sending you the greetings from Croatia now rather than the individual cities because I am getting a bit back logged. So today I will be posting pics from Split. And I'm sure that you can guess again as to how I am doing and yet again you've caught me too pooped to pop! So please read about and learn about Split in Elisa's column and as soon as I have better upload speeds and can progress then I'll go ahead and upload the rest of my day in pictures for you to browse! I've got a busy one ahead! But, I'm taking one step at a time. Today, my girl Kelsey stayed home from school. Poor kid got herself into a nervous state over a math test that she had today because she just couldn't grasp the concepts. She's in advanced math and has been a straight-A student her whole academic life, so I know this is out of the ordinary for her. I contacted the teacher to discuss a plan of action for Kelsey to get some extra help. I certainly don't want her to feel so stressed or let her grades drop because she is not understanding. Today, more than ever, women are deciding to travel solo and while a spirit of independence is a beautiful thing, there are also some important things to keep in mind when doing so. We all know that not all places are safe for women traveling solo. Even the most independent woman needs to be vigilant when it comes to safety, especially when embarking on a road trip.
When it comes to India, the past few years has seen an increase in the number of women traveling solo and with the number of attractions and cities to see, it is not uncommon to choose driving as the means of transportation when exploring the country. As Tanya continues her wonderful Croatian adventure, she finds herself in Split, Croatia the past two days, so let's take a closer look at this city, the second largest on the Adriatic coast, which has the perfect balance between traditional and modern.
7 Reasons that Make Split, Croatia
A Seaside Delight 1. VIBRANT PORT CITY 
Located between the mountains and the sea, Split is the economic and cultural center of the Dalmatian coast filled with attractions, things to do, including day trips, world-class nightlife and a plethora of restaurants
2. HOME TO A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE 
Diocletian's Palace is perhaps the most visited site in Split. Built by Emperor Diocletian, beginning in 295, upon retiring to the home of his birth - Salona, near Split - the palace was Dalmatia's most outstanding contribution to the Roman empire.
More like a city within a city, it measures 215m from east to west and the walls are 26m high. The palace is now a commercial and residential centre, which dates back to the 7th century. Diocletian's Palace was named a a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. 3. BEAUTIFUL HARBORSIDE PROMENADE 
Split's seaside promenade, Riva, is a lovely destination where visitors and locals sit and enjoy the harbor, people watch, delight in one of the many cafes and "fjaka" the Dalmatian art of doing nothing!
4. STUNNING VIEWS OF SPLIT AND ITS ISLANDS
At the peak of Marjan hill some of the most awe-inspiring views can be captured over Split and its nearby islands. Overgrown with pine and cactus, the 123m-high Marjan hill is a natural preserve on a peninsula that extends out from western Split. Marjan hill is often referred to as the "lungs of the city", comprised of a lovely blend of macchia, Mediterranean florae, promenades, and belvederes.
If you explore the nearby forest, there is an old Jewish Cemetery, a small zoo and the church of St Nikolas, which dates back to the 13th century. 5. A PLEASANT PEASANT QUARTER 
West of Diocletian's Palace and built around the 17th century is the unassuming Peasant Quarter, Veli Varos. Comprised of narrow streets, stone buildings and a few churches, this little neighborhood provides solace from the business of the town.
6. MESTROVIC GALLERY
In the 1920's, Croatia's most famous sculptor, Ivan Mesrovic began construction of a magnificent villa at the foot of Marjan hill. Today, the Mestrovic Gallery is home to his work, displaying 192 sculptures, hundreds of drawings and a small number of paintings.
7. SPLIT ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Founded in 1820, the Split Archaeological Museum is the oldest museum in Croatia with most of its works originating from Central Dalmatia, particularly Salona. The collection includes Greek pottery, Roman and early Christian sarcophogi and an extensive collection of ancient coins, jewelry and tools.
