6 Reasons to Visit Slovenia
Hello my peeps!!
I must admit, I am rather jealous of my dear cousin, Tanya these days, as she is visiting a place I have very much wanted to travel to for a few years now. Oh, how life can get in the way of our leisure endeavors!! Well, not to worry, SLOVENIA is on my list of places to go and I will get there soon enough! For now, I would like to highlight a few reasons why this eastern European country should be on your must-visit travel list!! 6 REASONS TO VISIT SLOVENIA 1. RICH HISTORY
Located in southern Central Europe, Slovenia represented a major part of the greater Yugoslavia. Originally a monarchy, the first free election in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) was held in 1925.
Slovenia happens to be the only modern-day European country that was occupied by both Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. During the cold war era, it was a political powder keg for both the US and USSR and became a center of spying and backchannel diplomacy. In 1991, Slovenia’s War of Independence, also known as the Ten-Day War, was fought to gain its independence from Yugoslavia and established Slovenia as a democracy for the first time since World War I. 2. CENTRALLY LOCATED
If you are a traveler who enjoyed maximizing trips and seeing a multitude of geographically nearby destination, Slovenia is the ideal place for doing so.
With four land bordering countries that include Austria, Croatia, Hungary, and Italy, your journey to Slovenia offers four times the sightseeing and enjoyment. In fact, Slovenia is so small that you can look at two countries while standing in Slovenia! To the right you can spot Italy, while on the left you can find Croatia. 4. LJUBLJANA IS THE CENTER OF SLOVENIA
The country’s capital city’s Ljubljana is the nation's center and focal point. Pronounced "lub-lee-yana", the name translates as “the loved one”.
The city is home to twelve museums, which are all close to each other allowing tourist to visit them all in a timely fashion. Ljubljana was named the European Green Capital of the world for 2016. 5. Full of Natural Wonders
Slovenia is a country dotted with picturesque natural wonders. It has the highest number of caves in the world with more than 10,000 including Postojna, the largest at 20,570 m long and the best-known cave system in the world.
Over half of the country is covered with forests. The linden tree and the chamois are two important national symbols of Slovenia. 6. Wineries Galore
Slovenians love their vineyards! The country has a winery for every 70 people.
I'm so happy that Tanya was able to take so many lovely photos and include some in my Scoop today!! Happy Hump Day!! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
