NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN:
A tale of Tall Ships
I'm coming at you today from Agoura Hills. We are here about to visit Dave's mom.
On the way up here, Dave and I had stopped for a nice little Sunday Brunch in Venice.
Venice is a rather interesting place...
I'll just leave it at that. And move on to - yesterday and it was all about Dana Point's 33rd annual Tall Ships Festival.
TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL - September 8-10, 2017
In celebration of California’s rich maritime history, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point annually hosts a fleet of historic tall ships. This extraordinary event takes place each year the second weekend in September. History comes alive, as crews from each ship, along with historical re-enactors, engage the public in cannon battles, pirate adventures, mermaid encounters , ship tours, and much more.
This happens to be the second year that we've gone to the festival. Last year it was all 4 of us.
And yet this year was going to be a bit more exciting, as Dave and I had scheduled to ride the Cannon Battle Sails and it battle out along with the Californian crew, shooting it out against the Curlew, Exy Johnson and the Irving Johnson, America and the Spirit of Dana Point.
Here are some pics for you to enjoy from yesterday:
This regal schooner is owned and operated by the San Diego Maritime Museum. The Californian offers educational sailing programs for youth and sail training opportunities for volunteers, and has been designated as the official tall ship ambassador for the state of California.
