Sunny Sunday Fun Day

Omusubi CrazeHello there! How is your weekend going so far? Mine is not so bad. Rather mellow in terms of what my weekends are usually like...I'll throw one of these in every now and again! And you may or may not remember that this weekend wasn't originally so open. In fact, I was planning to be out of town and riding my heart out (mountain biking) in Oregon. But I decided in haste to cancel/postpone that trip (out of frustration when I thought my January trip to Europe was being cancelled) and now I still need to figure out where to stick it back in.
Yesterday we bopped over to a fairly new Japanese Market that opened. I pass this market frequently enough, but never make it inside.
However after chatting with our family friend Matt about the store I had all of a sudden wondered if they might have Omusubi!
Delicious, simple and addicting, onigiri and omusubi, or rice balls, have been beloved by Japanese people since ancient times.
According to MATCHA Japan Magazine Onigiri and omusubi have a long history; hard clumps of steamed rice, thought to be primitive versions of onigiri, have been discovered at ruins dated from the 1st Century AD. Developed as rations for soldiers and portable meals for travelers, onigiri and omusubi became part of the fabric of Japanese food culture. Even now, they are indispensable to the Japanese dining table as meals for people on the go, as light snacks, or as food for picnics and outdoor events. I'm HOOKED and I found them at the Japanese market! YUM! I also got some seaweed salad which I enjoyed while watching Mika's soccer game, which was our next stop.
After that Dave and I bopped on over the feed and tack supply and then to Whole Foods and finally got our hands on the new Beyond Meat Sausage, which is ALWAYS sold out.
Then back home to watch game 4 of the MLB World Series. Boston won 8-4.
Well today we'll be heading over to the bookstore, having lunch at Tacos Cancun, hopefully meeting up with Jet, Andrew and Chaplin at the Pumpkin Patch and then back in front of the TV for what could be the last game (if Boston wins) of the World Series.
