More China Adventure StoriesHello! Well, not sure about the weather in other parts of the country, but New York, and especially Long Island has been a wet, rainy mess the past two days!! I'm pretty well over it! In spite of the icky weather, the fact that it's Throwback Thursday cheers me up! Reminiscing about my youthful adventures in China, two decades ago absolutely brings a smile to my face!! And some hearty belly laughs! I hope you are enjoying this series. It was one of my favorite trips of all time. I highly recommend going to see this part of the world. I know it is quite different today than when I visited in 1991. It is on my bucket list to visit again...this time with my girls! Now, based upon how much traveling Tanya and I have been doing and planning, I'm thinking China may have to go on our list! This is something I need to chat with Tanya about! By the sound of her Daily today, she had plans at one time, so I'm sure I can resurrect her interest in a Far East trip again! So far, in my China Adventure series, I've talked about my flight from Hong Kong to Shanghai, Great spots visited in Shanghai, our Tour Group and Guides, My scare with "losing" my passport, Beijing and the Ming's tombs and today - one of the highlights of the trip - The Great Wall! My day started off with a very lovely (and wet) breakfast with my friend Eileen. We were troop leaders together for Gianna's troop for five years, and since the school year started, we haven't been able to sit down and catch up together. I'm so glad we finally got a chance to do so Not only did we and do we always have lots of laughs, but she also told me about her recent excursions into NYC, where she too, stayed at the Waldorf! Like me, she loves doing the touristy things in Manhattan. I shared with her how next weekend, I was taking the whole clan into the city for a brunch at Rock Center Cafe and then on a double-decker tour bus all around downtown in the Big Apple. I didn't forget that I promised to list some fun Halloweens events on Long Island this month: * HICKS' NURSERY Fresh-roasted corn, popcorn, apple cider, candy apples and more for purchase (on weekends only.) What a fun day to reminisce about the days of our past! This is Elisa's week to share with you and she has chosen to delight you with a story from 1991 about her trip to the Great Wall of China! (Part 6 in continuation of her China series) How many of you have visited China? I haven't been. But I'll tell you a short little story about when I was planning on going... Going back to 2007ish, I had constantly hung out with a few friends for a few years (that I am no longer in touch with). We were a bunch of goof balls that all loved to travel. So one day I was at the Irvine Global Festival with the kids, and we were walking around checking the place out, after they had finished their performance. I found interest in stopping by the China tourism booth, and began discussing with them an upcoming group trip that was phenomenally priced. I took home all of the information and excitedly reported the findings to Friend 1 and Friend 2. They were stoked and we were all in! This would work out perfectly because it was scheduled right around my upcoming birthday and as you all should know, I LUV doing birthday trips! ***As a side note, I don't only luv doing birthday trips for myself, but I luv doing them for friends and family alike! I really luv celebrating birthdays...such a special time to celebrate someones life and who they are! In fact I couldn't wait for my kids to be old enough to prefer choosing a place on the map to take a vacation to rather than throwing a big birthday party for them! Back to what happened when I was suppose to go to China... well I shouldn't have been surprised when Friend 1 flaked (she was the world's biggest FLAKE), and then Friend 2 didn't want to go anymore (he was the moodiest thing ever). So there I was, with no one to go with, and as much as I don't mind solo travel and that this trip was with a group, it just didn't feel right. And so it goes that I never made it to China. It actually wasn't even on my "list" before then and it hasn't made it's way back onto my "list" since. JSYK, I still did a birthday trip and I'll tell you all about that in one of my future TBT stories!! Also, please be sure to check out and enjoy the SLIDE SHOW full of pictures from our recent New Mexico Road Trip! Well, I've got tons of projects to tend to today. Website, travel, choir, kids, ect... Please continue to vote for us (see link on the right sidebar of this page) and please sign up for the Daily Scoop emails! Lastly, don't forget to meet me back here tomorrow for another fun FOODIE FRIDAY & some mouth watering foodgasmic pictures! Ciao 4 now, -T |
