What to do in One Day in Santorini
Howdy and Happy Hump Day!
I have so much to chat about, I don't know where to begin! Let me start with yesterday. It was a nasty, rainy day, but I managed to get tons done inside with packing up stuff for the Salvation Army and hauling yet more junk to the curb for bulk pick up day today. I decided to get a move on my kitchen - go through all the cabinets and pile everything neatly on my countertops for packing into boxes. This was a great exercise for me, as I was able to throw out yet more stuff that should have been gotten rid of ages ago. This included old kitchen linens, serving and cooking utensils and other miscellaneous "stuff" that I didn't need, nor want, anymore. You can see my very empty cabinets and orderly counter tops with everything I will be taking with us to the new house... Gianna had to stay after school yesterday for a Mock Trial Meeting, so Kelsey and I trekked out in the rain and enjoyed a lovely afternoon iced tea and muffin!
Kelsey enjoyed a chocolate chip (non vegan) muffin and I tried their Vegan Gluten Free Blueberry muffin. Honestly, I was not crazy about it. I'm not a fan of gluten-free baked goods. I commend the French Bakery's attempt to gear some of their yummy food towards special dietary needs, but, I'd love to see regular Vegan baked goods (muffins, croissants, and pastries) going forward!!!
This morning, it's absolutely lovely and I've decided to reward myself with a bit of time outdoors with my fur baby, Punkin. Believe it or not, even in late October, the sunshine is strong and I'm trying to maintain my tan, as I sit here writing my Scoop!!
Moving right along...to Santorini, Greece!! You might have noticed from Tanya's column that she is currently in Santorini! How gorgeous do the photos beow look!! As my dear Cuz is making a number of stops around the Mediterranean on her current cruise, she is not afforded a great deal of time to tour. HOWEVER, while it is never possible to take in the glorious beauty, history and vibe of a destination in a a day (or even worse, a few hours), these pit stops offer a great way to get a taste of the location, see some of the more infamous sights and whet your traveling appetite to visit again for a more indepth stay. Having said this, let's look at what can be accomplished in one day in Santorini!
WHAT TO DO IN ONE DAY IN SANTORINI
First: Fira
Fira is the beautiful capital of the island and the biggest and most cosmopolitan settlement of Santorini. It is located in the western edge of the island, opposite the volcano and the two volcanic islands, Palaia Kammeni and Nea Kammeni that lie in the sea. It is also the cultural and commercial center of the Santorini. This vibrant city is filled with hotels, cave apartments, infinity pools and cool restaurants, shops, bars and restaurants.
Second: The Red Beach
The red beach is one of the most famous and beautiful of the beaches of Santorini. It is located near the village and ancient site of Akrotiri. One of the most unique beaches in Greece and beautiful in all of Europe, with pebbly sand it is surrounded by high, bright-red cliffs.
Third: Oia
One thing Santorini is known for is its magnificent views and one place for enjoying these is in Oia. Along the drive, there are a number of vineyards and wineries, where visitors can enjoy a bit of local wine tasting. Once in Oia, there are lots of winding paths and breathtaking views of the volcano, ocean, white-washed buildings, and blue domed churches. If you are lucky, you may also spy donkeys running through! Oia also happens to be idea for watching the sunset to end a lovely one day adventure. Can't wait to hear about Tanya's adventures in Santorini. Tomorrow she will be heading to Mykonos!
