Lehman College – First Location of the United Nations and Brooklyn's Vegan Shop Up
Hi there!
Another Friday and this one is the start of a 3-day weekend! Me and my gang, as you know were forced to cancel our cousins' meet up in Las Vegas this weekend due to the fact that I am knee-deep in moving to do's. We will be doing a ton of packing and hauling this weekend - all good stuff so I cannot complain. Additionally, we've got some fun plans as well in and around our chores as I had mentioned on Tuesday's Blog. Some good eats are planned at the vegetarian/vegan eatery, Witch's Brew in West Hempstead tomorrow and then a visit to the Long Island Fall Festival in Huntington on Sunday. Thank goodness the weather forecast calls for sun all weekend! Another thing we are contemplating doing tomorrow is taking a trip into Brooklyn to The Vegan Shop Up.
In fact, this week marks the 9th Anniversary for this venue and the many events they host regularly.

This week, I am bringing you some fascinating historical information about the United Nations and how the first headquarters was in none other than the borough of The Bronx. Lehman College – First Location of the United Nations
People worldwide take for granted that the United Nations is headquartered in Manhattan’s east side at 42d Street and First Avenue and more than likely assume that it was always based at its current location. However, the fact is, this world organization had two previous localities that it called home before settling into its permanent location. The first of which was in The Bronx, on the grounds of one of the borough’s preeminent anchor institutions, Lehman College.
A rather prestigious honor by today’s standards, one must remember that back in the mid 1940’s, after the end of World War II, the United Nations was at its infancy in comparison to the formidable international organization that it is today, over seventy years later.
