BRAND BALLOT'S TOP 100 MOM BLOGS FOR 2018!!
Vegan Sweets, Fresh Pasta and Beach Shopping
Howdy folks!
Was I happy to wake up today when I was done sleeping - no alarm, no "Mom! it's time to get up." And best of all, I awakened to the sound of the raindrops and wind. Yes, we are having inclement weather lol - but, being a bit nutty, I love it! Oh - did you read Tanya's blog yesterday? Unfortunately, she wasn't able to post until after our blog emailed. So, here's the link to yesterday's blog. TANYA LAUGHING IT UP IN VEGAS Yes, my dear cousin is having a blast with her friends Jody and David in Vegas. In fact, she had a celebrity encounter with the star of the comedy show she went to see, Steve Trevino! Meanwhile, back here on the east coast, on Long Island, I spent the afternoon with two of my best girls, Kelsey and Punkin. Kelsey had a half day of school and so we spent a bit of the afternoon boppin' around the local shops getting some vegan delights. First stop was to Sweet to Lick Vegan Bakery, another Travelin' Cousins Vegan Approved foodie destination. We've been patronizing this sweet shop in Williston Park, Nassau County for several years now and were in the mood for some treats yesterday.
It took Kelsey and I some time to make our decision, but in the end we departed with three cupcakes, three large sandwich cookies and a brownie. YUM.
I literally had to threaten Kelsey not to open the boxes in the car. You know us Travelin' Cousins - "the camera eats first" so I needed to get my photos of our yummy purchases first and I wouldn't be able to do so until we arrived back home.
Next stop was the New York Ravioli and Pasta Shop in New Hyde Park. We come here quite often for fresh pasta and "ravs". Kelsey is very partial to Spinach ravioli, so it was a box of spinach and two boxes of cheese raviolis and two boxes of fresh Pappardelle pasta.
The fresh pasta does not have milk, but they are made with eggs. However, that works for Gianna, so I knew my dairy-free girl would be very pleases.
Sorry no personal photos since I left my phone in the car. But here is a very cool video from their website!
I'm so thrilled that we have this great fresh pasta place right in our own backyard, five minutes from home!!!
Guess what we ate last night? Yup - Kelsey was not going to even consider having anything but ravs. And I made the Pappardelle for me and Gianna with my leftover homemade tomato sauce. It wasn't Sunday, but, hey, what can I say. Today, I'll be playing chauffeur again to Gianna - to and from the mall. Then, I'll be making another visit to the gym. I'm trying to get there daily to get in tip-top shape for our Christmas vacay to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. And speaking of beach vacation, I made a few purchases this week on Amazon for my trip..
I also got a bathing suit, but I need to return it for a smaller size.
I'll show you when the correct size arrives!! That's it for today - hope you have a great Saturday!! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
Fun with Friends and Finally seeing Celine Dion in Las Vegas
Hi there!
I'm still coming at you from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Yesterday was yet another fun filled day here in good ol' Sin City.
I'm visiting here along with 2 friends (Jodie and David) and of course having plenty of fun! It started out with a most relaxing morning. Jodie and I went for a full body massage at a local spa. Ahhhh that was nice and all the knots in my back definitely appreciated it. I'm thinking that I could certainly get use to that! In fact, once I was done I had mentioned to my Dave (B) that we should plan to go for a couples massage while on our up coming January cruise. Needless to say I think he liked the idea. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the pool, I laid out while Jodie floated around on the lazy river until it was time for us to hit the strip once again.
This time we were heading to dinner and then we had tickets to (finally) go see Celine Dion!!! I have been wanting to see her show here in Vegas for years and yet for one reason or another it just never happened. Either she was on her own vacation while I was in Vegas or maybe the show was dark on a night that I had the availability. Who knows.
All I know is that I was looking forward to finally getting to see her!
We had dinner reservations at Trevi Italian Restaurant located at The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace. The restaurant was situated right beside the "Trevi Fountain", had nice, lively ambiance and even a separate Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten Free menu - which is always appreciated.
Being the OH SO PICKY ITALIAN gal that I am, of course you understand that Italian food is the food I am most picky about. And although while one of my favorite Italian restaurants (outside of Italy) happens to be right here in Vegas we chose to try this one based on the location - near the "Colosseum" the venue where Celine Dion performs.

So with all of that being said I stuck with ordering soup and salad and stayed far away from any pasta dish. The dishes I ordered were mediocre at best, actually the best thing I had there was the bread and garlic olive oil!
Luckily the non-Italian friends that I'm traveling with seemed to enjoy their meals. Next up was the show! And boy what a show it was!
I had no idea that we went to only her third performance into the final run of her residency (Mar 15, 2011 – Jun 8, 2019) in Vegas - after what started only as a 4 month gig.
The singer can really belt it out! A couple of the songs had tugged at my heart strings and I'll admit that I shed a few tears. But she had also taken a few breaks between songs to communicate and chat it up with the audience as well. So glad that I finally got to see her perform. The final burst of fun was heading over to New York New York to ride the Manhattan Express...
Yes I am a screamer!
It was Jodie's idea and we had come to find out that David hadn't been on a roller coaster in 20 years!!! I guess we should feel lucky that he didn't barf all over us. We are heading back to Cali today and hitting the road at any minute, so I'll sign off and catch up with you again tomorrow. -Travelin' Tanya |
