Shopping Away

Well Howdy!

What a mild Saturday it is here on Long Island.  It's so much more pleasant getting out and on the road early when the temperature is warmer!

Another Saturday and another day of riding.  However, today, it is just Kelsey hitting the barn since Gianna has yet, another friend's birthday party.  Two in one weekend!

Needless to say, Kelsey was thrilled that Gianna’s social schedule didn’t impact upon her weekly riding.

Actually, it was a nice change of pace and different dynamic driving out east with just Kelsey and Punkin.

We made great time and it always warms my heart to see my girl fill with joy when she hits the barn!!

After dropping off Kelsey, I headed over to Tanger Outlets in Riverhead as I had to pick up a few things for our trip. Well, actually, they weren’t just for our trip - they were necessities that the girls needed, but they will certainly come in handy on our upcoming travels to London and Paris.

Over the course of this Winter, the kids have taken over one of my favorite North Face jackets.  Just like that!  They decided they liked it because it wasn't as heavy as their winter jackets, but it was warm enough for those cold days.

Well, I decided it was time for me to invest in a few jackets for them, so I could re-claim mine!

Today, I hit an amazing sale at The North Face factory outlet store at Tanger.

I got a cute grey 3-in-one jacket (which, by the way is also waterproof!) and a pink puffer jacket. Both of these totaled $83.68 (with tax!)

The good news is, now the three of us can all share these jackets, so we can pass them around, depending on what we are wearing and the moods we are all in!

And with the temps in Europe expected to be between 40 and 55 degrees (Fahrenheit) during our trip, these new jackets will be just right, without adding too much bulk to our bags!!  YAY.

I also made my way to Steve Madden and picked up a few pairs of knee socks for the girls - they love wearing these scrunched up with their boots and that is really the extent of our wardrobe during our London/Paris trip - leggings, t-shirts, sweaters and boots.

And lastly, last night I did some online shopping at Old Navy.  I received an email that they were having a helluva sale on leggings - $5 per pair!!

Who doesn't need leggings???
I'd say I did pretty good with my shopping these past two days!

And the best part is that as of today, we are officially done with all vacation shopping and ready to finalize our packing!

Well, moving right along...

California Trail Interpretive Center
Picture
(credit: Bureau of Land Management)
Well, back to Tanya's trip - she is now on her 6th Day of her Annual Trip to Park City, and today, she and Cosette are venturing to the California Trail Interpretive Center in Elko, Nevada.

What is this place, you may be wondering?

In a nutshell, it is dedicated to the stories of the nearly 250,000 pioneers who endured the 2,000 mile trek out west to California between 1841 and 1869.

These brave and adventurous people sold their belongings, packed wagons, and set out west.  Some were seeking land, some gold, others seeking adventure, and some for reasons we may never know.
The Mission of the California Trail Center is to interpret the California Trail experience, its related themes, and provide educational and cultural enrichment to the general public.

The following information is from the official website:  www.californiatrailcenter.org

Within the Center, there is a wealth of information about the following important aspects, among many, of those pioneers traveling west in the 1800's...

Landmarks Along the California Trail
Picture

The journey west covered over 2,000 miles and ten states.  There is no shortage of historical landmarks on the California Trail.

Whether you are interested in the unique geology of the west, the thousands of miles of remaining wagon train wheel ruts, or the culture surrounding old forts, you won’t be disappointed. Just some of the places you can still visit and explore today include the following:

* Chimney Rock
* Scott’s Bluff
* Fort Laramie
* Independence Rock
* Devil’s Gate
* Sweetwater River
South Pass
* City Of Rocks
* Mormon Station
* Sutter’s Fort
* Ash Hollow Complex

The long trek west in pursuit of wealth and a better life would have been almost impossible without the versatile wagons that stowed cargo and carried the sick and elderly.

Animals Along the California Trail
Picture
(credit: The California Trail interpretive center)
As immigrants traveled over 2000 milesn westward for gold or the rich lands of California, they took animals with them such as horses or oxen but as they moved along the trail they saw many animals that were native to that region. Some of these included: Bison, Bald Eagles, California Condors, Jaguars, Grizzly Bears Grey Wolves, Black Bears and Mountain Lions.

Their website is filled with a plethora of information, photos, and facts about this interesting time in our history.

For more information about this amazing center, click here.

This place looks totally cool!!!! I cannot wait to hear Tanya's first-hand account in tomorrow's blog!

did you check out her pictures from Reno?? Lots of good eats!!

Well, hope you are enjoying your Saturday!

See ya back here tomorrow.

CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN:
LAKE TAHOE, NV

On the Road from Park City to Lake Tahoe

Well HELLO HELLO.

Happy Saturday to you and GREETINGS from Lake Tahoe!

You might be thinking...wasn't she just in Park City, Utah?! Why YES I was, but as the story goes...another day another ski town!
Picture
Sleep - Eat - Ski is what our average ski seasons consist of. But if you've been following along...this has definitely been no average ski season.

I'm actually back here in Lake Tahoe (the south side this time around) for the second ski trip of the season... Although if you recall - we were resort bound and there was no opportunity of hitting the slopes during our last visit up here back in January.

We arrived here last night after a fun filled day and a 600+ mile road trip across Utah and Nevada.

Our day had started with us checking out of the lovely Zermatt (Swiss style) resort that we had stayed at and as we drove off passing pastures in the direction of Salt Lake City, we had spotted and a few beautiful sweet dear grazing away so peacefully. Of course I could help but stop and take a few pics :)

Then with the snow capped mountain range in my rear view mirror, we had continued on our way to visit the Great Salt Lake.

We did however have a wee little pit-stop that I had the urge to make before completely leaving town...

It was to go SHOPPING!

I realized that there was a Tanger Outlets (ya know, the same managed shopping center that Elisa spends hours upon hours at every Saturday that the girls take their Horseback riding lessons) so of course we HAD to stop.

And since I built a cushion in the departure time, we really had some "time to spare"!

Immediately after we entered the first store I was slightly put off by the lack of outlet prices but we still tried on a few pieces and were already gonna be walking out with bags in hand.

Knowing that I had already spent too much time in just the one store, I had noted that we should just take a quick peak at what other stores were on site...

Well next thing you know we were entering another store and I made note that we really need to rush - but you know how it goes...

A few racks later and we are in the fitting rooms once again adding things to our YES pile, making our way to the registers and walking out with more shopping bags!

Picture

We got back to the car and I had finally said that we couldn't even look to see what else was available because we would just be tempted to go in and "browse" and we all know what happens next.

So there we were on the road once again!

And guess who also made a visit to The Great Salt Lake???
Picture
Over there on Fremont Island (c)travelincousins.com
American frontiersman Kit Carson.
This guy was everywhere!!! You have no clue just how often I noticed that Kit Carson had visited/explored locations that I happen to be visiting...

And to tell you the truth, I didn't even know who Kit Carson was until our Cousins Trip to Albuquerque back in October of 2014.

The day we visited the Kit Carson museum

The reason Kit Carson was at The Great Salt Lake was because Kit traveled with John Fremont who was an explorer of The Great Salt Lake. Fremont Island is privately owned and name after John Fremont. Kit eft his mark on the island by carving a small cross into the rocks which is still visible today.

I was so excited to finally catch up with the Nom Eats food truck that I got to test out last year at the Vegan Street Fair in Los Angeles. So in essence I drove over 600 miles for this burrito and YES IT WAS WORTH IT!

     Memories from the Vegan Street Fair

Okay folks, I've said enough. I've gotta go skiing!
