Elisa's Daily ScoopWhy are Girls so Mean? Here we are at the start of another week! I spent last night consoling Gianna because there is a group of girls in her class who she thought were her friends, who insist on saying mean things to her, making fun of her and when she stands up for herself, they all pounce on her for "being mean" to the girl who started being mean to her. I've been dealing with this issue with her since first grade. She has never quite fit in with the "in" crowd and my guess is that she was labeled as the kid that people picked on and being in a very small school, she is having a tough time breaking out of that label. It is so heartbreaking to see her cry and tell me how she withdraws and then goes to the bathroom crying after these little brats go off on her. I'm going to be looking at other schools in the area for next year, because going into her middle school years will only be worse when you are dealing with a mean girl clique. Needless to say, it breaks my heart and pisses me off all at the same time. One of the things these little mean girls go off on her about is that she misses school because I opt to have her and her sister travel with me. They lecture her on how she missed this and missed that and make up rumors about why she is out. I can only wonder where their mean and small-mindedness comes from. They also watch her YouTube channel (which she designed, films, edits, etc.) and ask her "what she was thinking?!" and laugh at her videos. It makes me sick. The thing that comforts me is that I know just how talented she is and what an independent thinker she is - not to mention - creative and these little brats are all cookie cutter versions of each other. I found this interesting excerpt from an article on About.com about Bullying. I think it states clearly what is happening to Gianna: Relational Aggression is a sneaky and insidious type of bullying that often goes unnoticed by parents and teachers. Sometimes referred to as emotional bullying, relational aggression is a type of social manipulation where tweens and teens try to hurt their peers or sabotage their social standing. Relational bullies often ostracize others from a group, spread rumors, manipulate situations and break confidences. The goal behind a relationally aggressive bully is to increase their own social standing by controlling or bullying another person. In general, girls tend to use relational aggression more than boys, especially between fifth and eighth grade. As a result, girls who engage in relational aggression are often called mean girls or frenemies. A teen or tween on the receiving end of relational aggression is likely to be teased, insulted, ignored, excluded and intimidated. New Week Ahead... I've got a bunch of stuff going on this week including a Brownie meeting for Kelsey's troop at the Long Island Children's Museum to earn a Painting badge. This should be fun! Traveling-wise, Tanya and I need to have a little pow wow about our upcoming Yellowstone Road Trip next month. We also need to finalize some more details for our Eastern Europe trip in June. I will be working on our site this week and coordinating some of our new affiliates. This is something that is very exciting for me and Tanya!! I hope you have some great plans this week! The good news is that the temperatures are going to start to rise - maybe we'll finally say goodbye to a lot of the snow and ice!! Happy Monday!! See ya back here tomorrow! Remember to Vote ---->>>>---->>>> -E xoxo | Tanya's Daily ScoopBack on the Home Front..Hey guys! I'm back on the home front after a lovely vacation to Lake Tahoe. Dave B, Dominic, and myself spent the day skiing at Kirkwood yesterday. While Dave C and Cosette decided to just sit back, hang out, and relax. Dave C was still feeling the hurt from keeping up with us on the first 2 days on the slopes. Being that it was my last day on the slopes for this season, I had some mixed feelings about the day. The conditions for the most part really sucked! Good thing Cosette and Dave opted out - they would've been miserable, and Dave would've most likely hurt himself. It was just too damn HOT and there were parts of the mountain that we were skiing through nasty slush! YUCK! It was so gross. Luckily we found a few decent spots to stick with. Otherwise I probably would've wanted to call it an early day - which is something I never do! Having said all of that, there are some people who actually like it...I just prefer not to ski in MUSH. So on one hand, I guess I was happy that my last day out there it wasn't a very ROCKIN' day. I know that it would've been quite heartbreaking for my last day to be just amazing and awesome, and then to know that I wasn't gonna ski for another 9 months! Even thinking about it now makes me wanna cry; can you imagine if I had the time of my life yesterday and then had to call it a season?! I really would love to be able to ski year round - and I know that some people do...they follow the winter around the world and take their skis/snowboards with them. Hopefully one day not too far off in the future I will at least plan and book a trip to ski South America to ski in the summer! It's on my "bucket-list" and how freakin cool would that be?! Check out my bucket list and more HERE. After an 8+ hour drive, we got back home just after 1am, and of course I did not go right to bed after that. So, needless to say that I had a late night & the time change kinda messed me up - causing me to wake up late this morning! LOL My day will not be all too busy running around, I've got plenty to do right here at home, and then a board meeting later this evening while the kids are at their choir rehearsal. 2 rehearsals scheduled this week, and I've got at least 8 performances on my calendar for them over the next several weeks. And as you know, I've got plenty of trips coming up over the next several weeks! Luckily the kids will be able to get a carpool on the trips that they aren't coming along with me on. Then there will also be a few that Dominic has opted to come on, and Cosette has declined. So she will be the only one being car pooled to those events. This coming weekend they will be performing at the Aquarium of the Pacific for their International Children's Day Festival, which they've been hired to perform for the past several years. It's a fun event and if you are in town I recommend you coming to check it out! Next trip departs in: 11 Days! Stay tuned, I'll fill ya in on the upcoming trips and the stages that they are in tomorrow on Travelin' Tuesday! So pretty much I've got the next 10 days (excluding my birthday), so make that 9 days to prep and plan for Easter. Guess that means I've got to go shopping! Awe too bad... Joking just joking - I luv shopping! Please don't forget to vote for us --->>-->> Meet you back here tomorrow :) -T |
