What a Weekend!
Guess what? I'm BAAACK home again! Well that sure was a whirlwind weekend!
It was great fun and lots of pedaling - over 50 miles of cycling (and we aren't talking about easy flat rides either)...
Yesterday Dave and I participated in America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride (AMBBR). Organized by Bike the West, hosted by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This was a sold out event drawing people from across the country to participate in the 24th annual race around Lake Tahoe!
With pedaling up, down, and around Lake Tahoe, in both the state of California and the state of Nevada.
Initially Dave and I had thought we were perhaps part of a very small group that had flown up there for the ride.
Ya know the few who weren't local riders...
Well I was sadly mistaken. Several states had represented. And we were all being cheered on from the sidelines. From the tail gate parties, to the hoots, hollers and cowbells. You name it, this race drew a crowd of supporting cheerleaders!
If you read yesterdays Daily Scoop, you'd know that all of the rental Road Bikes were sold out and that we opted for Mountain Bikes. Well out of some 3,500 riders, I only saw 2 other mountain bikes in the race!
As I pushed and pedaled this less than efficient bicycle I would get pedaled past by all sorts of individuals... From cellulite to cankles, old to young, the big and the small, all shapes and sizes they were just about all passing - What on earth is wrong with me???
I'd constantly hear on your left, on your left, left, left, left! Which is always appreciated and let's you know that you are about to be past, and then there were the few who said nothing and just surprised me by passing or riding too close!
I'd also get comments making reference to my bike choice:
"Straight bars rule."
"Go mountain bikes!"
"Yeaaah Fat Tires!"
"On a mountain bike...yeaaah!"
"You're so awesome!"
"You look fresh as a daisy, but you're on the wrong type of bike for this race." (I KNOW)
"On a mountain bike?! You go! It's definitely not easy!"
Wrong bike for this type of ride!
Little sightseeing break!
During the ride, although I'm never a big fan of all the climbing, the worst thing I could actually see was a downhill (unless it was at the end of the ride). Certainly not because I don't enjoy going downhill - it's my fav! But because it means that you're giving up everything that you just worked so hard for. Ugh.But indeed it happened.
Beautiful clear waters of Lake Tahoe
Yay! The Casinos are in sight!!
Boy was it nice to cross the finish line, and it had nothing to do with the screaming fans! LOL
Next up was returning the bikes, getting some grub, and hustling back down to Reno!
Luckily everything went smooth... We were on schedule. Earlier in the day I was worried we weren't going to have time to EAT! But that wasn't the case, and we went to test out a new Vegan Cafe 'Simply Bliss' that I had previously researched (first ever in Tahoe!)
After coming up to Tahoe for all these years, I tend to mostly stay in condo rentals and utilize the kitchens. Not that I don't enjoy going out to eat...because you know I do!
But because after a few visits and trying out several local restaurants, I was left with little more than disappointment. And with this visit, staying at the newly opened Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, we had no choice but to eat out. And I can honestly say that the food was good and that I'd go back and test out more of the menu.
Then it was time for the hustle to catch our flight!
And hours later, on the drive out of town I was kinda surprised that there were still racers on the course heading for the finish line!
Another day, another airport
Which brings us to Monday. I got plenty of chores, then the kids have choir rehearsal later this evening, and quite gladly I have no meeting.
So I'm gonna get on with it!
I'll see ya back here again tomorrow, -T

Here we are again at the beginning of the week!!
WHAT AN AMAZING WEEKEND!!!
First, the Belmont Stake on Saturday and a new Triple Crown Winner with American Pharoah!
Then, a TOTALLY ROCKIN' SURPRISE 80TH BIRTHDAY PARTY for my Dad yesterday!!
Me and My Daddy
You have no idea how difficult it has been NOT sharing with you, all the planning and the anticipation for this party over the past two months!
I didn't dare, since my Daddy reads my blog!
Hi Dad!!! I hope you had the best time yesterday at your Surprise Party!!
Dad Walking in after we yelled Surprise!
Mio Posto in Oceanside
Danielle and I decided a few months ago that we wanted to do something special to commemorate Dad hitting a milestone birthday of 80 - I mean, after all, it's a big deal!!
So, that's exactly what we did! We went to one of our favorite restaurants on Long Island, Mio Posto, in Oceanside. The people are great, as is the service and the food is Dee-lish!!
The invite was easy!! - we used a picture of Dad from when he was much younger. All of his friends got a kick out of it!

The long-time friends enjoyed a blast from the past and the friends from recent years got a chance to see what a handsome devil he was back in the day!!
To say he was surprised is an understatement! He was in SHOCK!!
He later told me and Danielle that he lost his bearings when he heard SURPRISE and then saw the faces of old friends!
I want to send a big shout-out to my dear Uncle Jerry and Aunt Joan for flying up to New York for this special event!! And to our dear life-long friends Cathy & John for sharing in the day!!
Me and my sissy knew we had to get a totally special cake for this event. We paid a visit to CM NY Cakesin Levittown. THANK YOU MONA for a gorgeous cake!
As you can see, not only does the cake commemorate Dad's 80th, but it also has a "mock" film strip featuring pictures of Dad from the time he was a toddler, through the years to present day!!
Dad & Mom
With the Grandkids
Music was provided by Gianna, who hooked up Pandora with some great classics from the big band era featuring Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Dean Martin - his favorite genre of tunes!
To say it was a great party, would be an understatement! Thanks everyone for being part of Dad's special celebration!
This week we have some fun stuff coming up - Stay tuned for Travelin' Tuesday tomorrow from both me and Tanya talking about some new trips added to the calendar!!
Fun places on W2GW. I'll be bringing you back to the late '80's with a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with Mom. And Tanya is in the house Foodie Friday!!
