Tanya's Daily Scoop
CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: Prague

One of my LONG days!

GREETINGS FROM PRAGUE!!!

DOBRÝ DEN - GOOD DAY (in Czech)

I arrived here yesterday evening from Oslo, the Norweigan flight was very nice and had wifi! Somehow it's just always more fun to text from the air!
Picture
From Oslo to Prague
Yet, I was seated in a row just in front of some very jovial and LOUD Czech men.
They were having an absolute blast, story telling in their native tongue and breaking out into this group laughter, that I kid you not...echoed throughout the aircraft!
It was quite comical! I had even attempted to record some of their laughter...

Once I had landed in this rather quiet airport, it was easy peasy to baggage claim and then to my hotel. I checked in, got comfortable and eventually called it a night.

Checked in for another solo night.
I woke up 4hrs later at 2:45AM and was WIDE AWAKE, and have been for the rest of the day --- Hello Jet Lag!
I mean I tried to fall back asleep, and if you know me - if I am at all tired falling asleep is NOT a problem whatsoever!
Instead I decided to the gym to get in a workout, and then went to do a little bit of shopping for some fresh fruit, and soymilk.

Next came waiting for Elisa...tick tock

Ever since I've been gone, I've been texting my dear Cosette. She is keeping me posted and up to date on things on the home front.
I'm so glad that I got AT&T's Global Passport to make all the texting possible and that way we don't have to feel so far apart. I've been chatting away with everyone...just like when I'm at home!

After eating breakfast, getting ready for the day, and zipping up my luggage, I got an early message from Elisa that she had landed and was heading over!
Before I was out the door, my phone rang and it was the front desk letting me know that "my friend" was here!

After our little rendezvous, we were driven off to Staré Mêsto (Old Town).
We got all checked in, and then very excitedly went on our way...
Our first stop was at the Astronomical Clock, which was first installed in 1410, the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still working!

And then we opted for an offer that we couldn't refuse...
A FREE 3hr walking tour! Perfect!!

We didn't exactly know what to expect and it turned out better and waaaay more informative than we imagined. We got to see and learn about several sights, as well as gain some local knowledge about the culture, and hear some interestig folk stories.
We're so happy that we did it and it was definitely worth our time!

Ok so I’ve gotta tell ya something so completely and totally embarrassing.
I’m here visiting Czech Republic and we are on this walking tour in Prague where the guide had been discussing the Velvet Divorce and then my brain FINALLY went CLICK!

WTH is wrong with me?...
I hadn’t put 2 and 2 together until standing here today that Czech Republic and Slovakia Republic made what once was Czechoslovakia!

All along, in my head I thought that Czechoslovakia became Czech Republic and that was it. Nothing further. So this was a definite Blonde moment!

After the tour, we continued onward to Wenceslas Square and then New Town - the only thing I'll say about that is that we'll stay in Old Town thank you very much!

We also wandered the streets and found some very picturesque buildings, churches, and synagogues.
Finally walking under the Powder Gate and back to the Old Town Square on our way to the hotel for some semi down time (working on the blog) before heading out to dinner!

And that ladies and gents was my rather long 20+ hour first full day in Prague!

Perhaps I'll get more sleep tonight... We shall see!

For tomorrow will be another fun filled and busy day being tourists here in Prague!

Cheerio,

Elisa & Tanya Reunite in Prague

Greetings from Prague!!

Here we are!! Me and my bestie cousin, Tanya are together again!!

Before I tell you about our awesome reunion, let me first tell you about last night and my flight!

Leaving home
Tedd and the girls took me to Kennedy Airport for my 8pm flight.  It was a breeze checking my bag!  No line at curbside and because I used my Delta App, I was already checked in when I arrived.

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that I had to say goodbye to my little sweeties!!

Gianna started crying before we even left the house.  She was all teary eyed and it broke my heart.  Kelsey was more of a trooper.

I want to say a big I LOVE YOU to my babies.  No matter how far I am physically, I’m always with you and you are always with me no matter where I go.

Airport Security is the pits… it was moving beyond slow! There was the this totally annoying guy behind me who was practically stepping on my wheeled bag.

I mean, did he think that the closer he stood to me, the faster he was going to get through security??

I kept trying to create space between us, but the more I moved away from him, the closer he would get a few seconds later!! I was starting to steam.

Finally, I said “Would you like to go ahead of me?”  He didn’t even have the manners to look me in the eyes and he replied “no, I’m fine.”  I responded, “Ok, well, then maybe you can give me some personal space.”  I hate going through airport security!!!!

I opted out of the x-ray machine.  I read that those things are very bad for you. So, as a result, I had to wait an extra 10 minutes to be patted down and felt up.  JSYK (just so ya know) - you can opt out of the big x-ray machine AND if you are traveling with kids they are NOT supposed to make you go through it.

Amazing Dessert Cart!!
Now, I don't mean to be a snob, but I LOVE traveling Business/First on European flights!

It's just so civilized and you arrive so refreshed from sleeping on a flat bed.  This flight was really enjoyable from the very first moment I arrived.

Once on board, I was asked whether I wanted orange juice or sparkling wine (why can’t they just say champagne?).  I told the flight attendant
I wanted both to make a mimosa, which was very refreshing, I might add.

The meal was remarkably good - an appetizer of grilled shrimp and corn salsa (which I passed on, but I'm sure the other passengers enjoyed it!), an arugula salad with goat cheese and beets and Manicotti, which was surprisingly very good.

Dessert offerings came around on a cart - so much to choose from, but I stuck with the basics - fresh fruit and a mini peach pie - soooo good!!

The flight was great, except for the fact that the outlets were not working well and I was unable to charge my laptop (grrrr). However, on a good note, I managed to sleep 4-1/2 hours, which is pretty good for me. It wasn’t all rest, as I did some writing as well.

Did a little vlogging on the plane:

Yes! Prague BABY!!
After a relaxing flight, I arrived in Prague, Czech Republic for the second time in two years!!

Getting through immigration and baggage claim was record speed!! I texted Tanya when I landed and she could not believe how fast I made it out of the airport!

Our hotel in Prague (in the Old Town Square) arranged a car to come collect Tanya and I at the airport.  Now, as you know, Tanya arrived in Prague a day early, so our driver met me at baggage claim and we walked across to the Airport Courtyard Marriott to pick up my bestie cuz!

Reuniting since last seeing each to her in April was a blast!!! Check out Tanya's blog for pictures of the Travelin' Cousins at the Marriott and then in the cab on the way to our hotel!

After a quick check in and me doing a fast change, we headed out!  Tanya, had our itinerary in-hand.  As we made it to Prague Tower, steps from our hotel, it was almost noon, so we were there just in time to see the Astronomical Clock show.

Funny enough, there was a representative from one of the local tour companies recruiting people for a "Free" Tour.  Tanya and I looked at each other and thought, "why not!."

From there, we walked, listened and learned some great historic information over the course of 3-hours, about this, our first city on our European trip.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!!
Here are a few from our first day together in this magical city.

A few of the highlights we learned about were:
> The history of Prague Tower and the Astronomical Clock
> Prague Castle
> The Jewish Quarter and Staronova Synagoga, "The New Old Synagog"
Our tour guide, Derek enlightened us about the Jewish Quarter and this Synagog in particular which claims to be the oldest synagog in all of Europe. (However, there is another synagog in Budapest, which makes the same claim.  Hmmmm)
> The Estate's Theatre (where Tanya and I will be going on Saturday night to see Mozart's Don Giovanni.
> Rudolfinum

What a great day!!
Tonight we'll head out for dinner at a local vegetarian restaurant - we'll let you know what we thought of it!!

Na shledanou (goodbye in Czech)
