Heading to NYC and the journey begins!!Howdy folks to all you pals and princesses out there! We are currently here at LAX ready for the first adventure of our summer. And today just so happens to be the first day of summer - so I think it's fair to say that it's pretty perfect timing on my part! We are first heading to NYC - we'll be taking time to visit with some friends and family, but time is pretty short on this visit... Only in NYC until Tuesday when we then head across the Atlantic and land in London!! Arriving at LAX there was at first an outrageous amount of traffic. YUCK! But once we checked our bags it was an entirely new experience - and let's not forget that I frequent airports!!! Each and every agent whom we encountered was incredibly NICE! The TSA moved swiftly and the agents were warm and friendly. Once through TSA we were then stunned by the fact that there was even a TSA choir... See the video below. See ya back here tomorrow from NYC, -Travelin' Tanya | Foodie Friday Vegan Recipe and Grandmaster Flash Polar Prize Winner and Hip Hop PioneerFriday! Yay! And the official start of summer for me and my gang!!! While I'm thrilled that the school year is over, I dare say, it literally flew by!! Well, at least for me. Moving right along, I have lots to tell you about today. First, as you know, with every Friday comes a new article about The Bronx, written by me for my weekly column in ThisIsTheBronx.info. Last week it was announced that Grandmaster Flash, music innovator, DJ and performer, was awarded the Polar Prize in Sweden. This prize is considered to be the Nobel Prize of Music and the Bronx's own Grandmaster Flash (aka Joseph Saddler) was the proud recipient. Grandmaster Flash - Polar Prize Winner, Hip Hop Pioneer and Proud Bronxite Before Hip Hop was world renown and a mainstream music genre, growing up back in the day, here in New York, and namely in The Bronx, the 1970’s and 80’s club scene was where a few pioneers were giving birth to this new musical style. It was an era of vinyl records, turntables and headphones, when party and club disc jockeys were king. And while Hip Hop and rap music may not appeal to everyone, one thing we can all agree on is that bringing creative innovation to any art form is worth recognition and respect. This week it was announced in a myriad of news outlets, including ThisIsTheBronx.info, that the Bronx’s own, Grandmaster Flash (aka Joseph Saddler) was bestowed the honor of Sweden’s Polar Prize, often described as the Nobel prize for music. If you are not using a high-speed blender (like Vitamix of Blendtec) for this recipe, I recommend soaking your cashews for at least 30 minutes before attempting this recipe. And speaking of Vegan... Yesterday, me and my girls popped in our local "burger" joint for one of the tastiest veggie burgers around...and at a great price! Burger Bite is a local independently owned eatery that we love frequenting. Although they specialize in non-vegan burgers, they make a helluva plant-based burger that Gianna and I totally love! The burger is full of all kinds of vegetables, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside! Gianna and I both got carmelized onions and mayo on our respective burgers. Such a totally yummy lunch!! After a heavy rain and thunder storm yesterday afternoon, the weather cleared and decided to take a 3-mile walk. I took a few photos of the rain-drenched flowers along the way. On that note, I'm going to head out. Have a great Friday!! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
