Blogging outside of Starbucks on Seventh Street, Garden City, NY (c) travelincousins.com
I'm coming to you from Seventh Street in Garden City, sitting outside, enjoying a lovely Sunday afternoon with my best girl, Kelsey.
Gianna went to the movies today with her bestie today and that left me and Kelsey alone to bond. It was originally the three of us (with our fur baby, Punkin), but in preparation for our trip to Scranton tomorrow, I ropped her off at Jo-Mar for a few nights to board.
I'm afraid to say that now our little two night trip to Scranton may be in jeopardy!!
Yesterday, late afternoon, I was running around with Gianna - we had to run an errand to Walgreens and as we were driving back home, I received a phone call from Kelsey. These kids never call, so I'm thinking to myself, "this must be something very important."
Sure enough, in a relatively calm voice, she tells me that she got something in her eye an she can't get it out and it hurts. Ten minutes later, I was home and inspecting her left eye. Hmmm, nothing in there; I then ask her what happened, as I'm thinking it might be a scratch.
Well, she can't really recollect what happened, but she said that maybe she rubbed it really hard. I decided to give her a few hours, although, because it really bothered her too much to keep open, I decided to do a Dr. Mom eye patch.
Good thing I didn't become a doctor. This was the ugliest patch job ever - with surgical tape all over her head! She took a nap but by 8:15, she advised me that she was in a great deal of discomfort.
UGH - why is it always something. So, I decided to take her over to PM Pediatrics to have them take a closer look at her eyeball and determine if she had a scratched cornea or just an irritation.
Fortunately, we were taken right in ($70 later - with insurance!!!) and the doctor determined there was no abrasion. She suggested we patch her eye up and let her rest.
This morning she was relatively miserable as the eye was still bothering her. I patched it again (this time, having the benefit of the doctor showing me the right way to do so).
She was very dramatic about how much it was bothering her, so I decided to take her to one of our favorite places - The French Workshop on Seventh Street. Food always helps with feeling better!

I asked the question that I knew she was thinking - "Honey, are you worried about going away tomorrow for a few days, with your eye bothering you and afraid you will not be able to enjoy it?"
She started crying and through her tears said "you and Gianna can go and leave me home." LOL - like there was even a remote possibility of her staying home alone and secondly, even if there was, I would never want to go on this trip without her!!
My response was "let's see how you feel by this evening and when we get up and make the decision.
Fortunately, I have until tomorrow (Monday July 30th) at 5pm to cancel the hotel.
I'm telling you - I'm totally stressing! Nothing is ever smooth.
Well, you will know pretty much as soon as I do about whether or not we go or have to postpone our trip by two weeks. (honestly, Im pretty sure she'll be fine - but I did want to give her reassurance if she was still feeling awful.)
That's it for today!
Hope it's a great day for you!

CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: VIRGINIA
Out and back to Victoria, VA
GREETINGS from Virginia!
Yesterday the kids and I took a drive out to the town of Victoria in order to go see and visit our cousin Elizabeth as well as to meet her new husband.
The mini road trip drive took us about 2.5 hours and through some of the Virginia countryside and a peek at some of the small towns.
But before we even hit the road we had one thing on our minds since our last visit - Surfin' Spoon Ice Cream Sandwiches. They are DELISH!!
And since we can't get these sandwiches out in California it was obviously of great importance that we indulge in these goodies!
So before heading out we made sure to stop by Whole Foods and snag up some of these yummies.
So good (c)travelincousins.com
Having dessert first, we were then on our way..

We arrived and were greeted by my cousin and her husband Paul. We briefly chatted and then it was lunchtime.
Dear pregnant Elizabeth made us the most delicious Ratatouille ever. Lunch was served.

After a lovely meal, story telling and plenty of laughter, our little party had moved to the living room and continued our throwbacks and catching up.
But no sooner had Paul mention to us that Elizabeth wasn't feeling too well and thanked us for our visit..

It was obviously time to for us to bid our farewells and get back on the road.

During the 2.5h drive, we had another interesting experience that we cannot even put into words.
It was definitely a "you've gotta be there moment" type of thing.
Let's just say that the closest thing that we could compare this experience to would be like walking naked through a busy diner. I was so glad not to be the only one there because only we (Dominic, Cosette and I) just know how crazy this little experience was. I tried to do a bit of filming, but just at this moment I got an alert that my storage was full. UGH
Anyhow, we made it back to Virginia Beach in time for a late dinner with family. The kids had a chance to hang out with their cousins.

Today is Dave's birthday, so there will be a family gathering. We're also going to a Tidewater Tides minor league baseball game. And a reporter from Wavy / Fox news is coming out to interview me.
So I'm gonna sign off now and catch everyone back here tomorrow. -Travelin' Tanya
