Tanya's Scoop Covering the West Coast & the World CURRENTLY IN: LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK Tanya is on the road today driving from Long Island to Upstate New York to visit family. She'll check back later!! - E | Elisa's Scoop Covering Long Island & NYC Boroughs CURRENTLY IN: LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK Well Hello There!! Can you believe that this is the last weekend in July!! Although the summer is moving along quickly, the good news is that so too is the progress of store and business re-openings. Life has been anything but uninteresting during the past four months with the covid-19 pandemic. There is no doubt that many businesses have been affected by both the quarantine as well as the slow schedule for re-opening here in the New York Tri-State area. One of my goals and commitments as a travel blogger who focuses on the New York City outer boroughs is to write about the many destinations for great daycations and the variety of unique, local small businesses and restaurants throughout the region. Over the past few weeks, I've brought you along for both in-person and virtual visits throughout the area. These have included a virtual Neighborhood Nature Walk at several NYC parks, Piazza Style Dining in The Bronx' Little Italy, and Al Fresco Dining in Garden City, Long Island. I've got a bunch more coming! This coming week, I'll be taking a few local trips, for which stories will be forthcoming, so stay tuned! Moving along... Last night, me and my gang connected with Tanya and her gang for the second day in a row while she was still on Long Island. This covid-19 situation has really put a damper on all the things we would have done together due to places still being closed. Add to this the fact that yesterday (Friday) was a stormy, rainy day, so that added more insult to injury in preventing us from local outdoor places we had on our list to do together. In the end, we settled for a good, old fashioned, outdoor dinner together last night after the rain passed. For the second weekend in a row, I headed to Garden City's "Restaurant Row," better known as Seventh Street, for their weekend piazza-style dining. It was really a great choice for a warm summer night since Tanya and I got to catch up on a great deal over the past number of months and the kids were able to have their own time together roaming about Seventh Street. We all settled on eating at The Burger Spot, which has a great selection of vegan and non-vegan options. My girls were happy with the chicken nuggets, while Tanya's gang and I settled on their Veggie Burger - full of arugula and tomatoes. Very tasty, but a bit messy!! Up the street is one of the best dessert and pastry shops around - The French Workshop. One of several locations, this corner shop has become much loved by both the local residents and folks outside Garden City. Gianna, Cosette and Kelsey wasted no time heading over there last night for some sweet delights! On a side note, I truly wish Tanya and I lived closer. If so, I know I'd never be home - roaming about the NYC outer boroughs and all across Long Island with a partner in crime! For now, it's time to say goodbye as Tanya heads upstate to visit her aunt (my cousin) for a family day and then back to Southern California tomorrow. Stay tuned this week for some of the fun stuff I'll be bringing your way including:
