Calling all Marvel Fans - Bronx Street Proposal for "Stan Lee Way"
Hey there!!
Just an update on my missing cousin's whereabouts. Tanya is currently in Boise, Idaho, as you may have noticed from her column header. I spoke to her VERY briefly earlier in the week for a quick hello, however, I miss her blog and can only assume she is really short on time bopping around, not to be able to get on and share her Scoop. C'mon Tanya - tell us what's going on!! Moving right along - Did you see our headline today?!? I heard the news the day before yesterday when it was announced in the NY Post, so I'm sorry for the delay in reporting it to you until today! For all the Marvel and Stan Lee fans out there, it certainly is music to our ears to know that The Bronx loves and appreciates this former Bronxite as much as the rest of the world!! A little Stan Lee background - although he was born in Manhattan, his family moved to The Bronx when Stan was a bit older and the future comic book writer, editor, publisher, and producer spent his teen years living in an apartment at 1720 University Avenue in The Bronx. Born in 1922 to Romanian-Jewish parents, Stan went on to attend DeWitt Clinton High School in The Bronx. The street on which he lived, University Avenue, is that which the NYC City Council approved a section to be renamed in honor of this amazing Bronxite!! According to ThisIsTheBronx.info today: The NY Post reported that the City Council approved a proposal to rename University Avenue between Brandt Place and West 176th St. in the Bronx “Stan Lee Way.” The Marvel Universe creator lived on that stretch of road when he was growing up. Lee also attended DeWitt Clinton High School. Lee passed away last November at 95, and since his death, tributes have poured in. There also was a mural painted at this alma mater. The bill is currently awaiting the mayor’s signature. How amazing is this!!! And thanks to the efforts of Bronx Historical Tours founder, Alexandra Maruri, tours of this and other areas in The Bronx are now available for visitors, from near and far, to visit points of interest like this one! throughout the Borough! This is a short one, but I thought I would leave you with a few Marvel Moments of my own: Short one for today! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
