Tanya's Daily Scoop
CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: ALBANY

Oh my Golly Gee GREETINGS from Albany;
the capital of New York!

It's Thursday and although it's not W2GW (Where To Go Wednesday) boy have we got a place for you to go!

This my friends has been a very highly anticipated event for my crew and Elisa's girls alike, we are heading to none other than
Ramblewild - The Tree to Tree Adventure Park!

While our group is mixed with some who have experience as well as some who are inexperienced with a Tree Top Adventure Park;
Some who are adventurous and some not quite as adventurous!
We'll get to show you and tell you about all of the fun from all perspectives...except the ground (unless Tedd stays down there)! LOL

Here's a bit more info about the park itself:
Ramblewild’s Tree-to-Tree Adventure Park is the largest of its kind in North America, set on 10+ dedicated acres in the middle of over 1400 acres of pristine New England forest and mountain landscape. The Park is divided by a ravine which is connected via a 200 ft suspension bridge 80 ft above the ravine stream.

The focal point is a central wooden bi-level platform 10 and 15 feet above the ground from which eight aerial obstacle courses originate, meandering from tree to tree at various heights through the forest.
Each course consists of 15-17 elements (high wires, zip lines, balancing logs, rope ladders, cargo nets, suspended bridges, etc.) that meander through a pristine hemlock forest. 4 of the 8 courses cross over the ravine via zip lines that will keep you a 100 ft above the ravine!
(Credit Ramblewild.com)

Stay tuned for our FULL review of our experience up in the trees, which I am anticipating will be an absolute blast that will provide lifelong memories!

And even before that happens, we are taking the kiddos to see the State Capitol!

Then following all the fun we're certainly gonna have, the cousins and the In-Law (inside joke), will part ways as Elisa and her group go back home to Long Island, while me and the kiddos continue with our Summer 2015 East Coast Trip and head to Lake Winnepeasaukee, New Hampshire, where we will be meeting up with my dad and Grandma, along with the possibility of other cousins who live in NH.

*As a reminder - my grandma's side of the family have been doing an annual Family Reunion at Lake Winnepeasaukee for years and years (like 25+) and we were all set to join them (as we have been doing for the past 5 or so years)...However this year someone decided to change the date to accommodate their own schedule a bit better (the date has NEVER been changed before), and so therefore there are definitely some of us who will not be able to make the reunion - as we always block out the same dates for it year after year.

Oh well, we'll just have fun without them and have a smaller and more intimate crowd during our visit!
Okay, so that is for TODAY...

Super day, Super fun, Maple, Falls, and everyone!

Driving to White Meadows Farm
As for how yesterday went...
BOY OH BOY did I have an excellent time taking a tour of White Meadows Farms (A Maple Farm).
You probably already know by now that I LOVE Maple!

Well, I added this excursion only a few days prior to us visiting and not only did we get a tour of this wonderful family owned and operated Maple Farm but we got a tour from the owner himself, Murray Bering!

We learned everything about the ins and outs of what goes into producing Maple Syrup!
And not only that, but we got an extra special treat at the end of the tour...
My favorite - MAPLE TAFFY!!!
Read more about my love for Maple HERE

Check out Elisa's column for more on our visit, and then be sure to stay tuned for our COMING SOON -
Side by Side Cousins comparison review of White Meadows Farms with so many pictures and facts, you'll think you were there!

Yesterday was a long day, and this was only the beginning.
Next up was heading back to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls for some shoppin' and strollin'...

Gianna finally getting her Tim Hortons!!
We followed that with saying our good byes to Canada and crossing the Rainbow Bridge back over to the USA side and going to the Cave of Winds at Niagara Falls State Park - which is by far
THE MOST FUN EXHIBT at Niagara Falls!!!

The journey begins with an elevator ride 175 feet down into the Niagara Gorge. Geared-up in a souvenir rain poncho and specially designed sandals, guests follow wooden walkways along Niagara River to the Hurricane Deck, just a few breathtaking feet from the torrents of Niagara Falls. Here, rushing Bridal Veil Falls creates tropical storm-like conditions.  Talk about a rush! Nowhere else on Earth gets you closer to the Falls!

While it wound up being just me and all four kiddos, as Tedd and Elisa both decided to take a break and didn't really feel like getting wet. The five of us had an amazing time being plummeted by Bridal Veil Falls and surviving the HURRICANE DECK over and over again!
Picture

Can you believe that:
Each spring, skilled workers rebuild the wooden boardwalks that will allow summer visitors to reach the Hurricane Deck – the walkways and decks are removed every November and reassembled each spring to protect them from the extreme winter weather conditions that prevail in the Niagara Gorge!!!
CRAZY!

The kids and I had an absolute BLAST; we were soaked but just couldn't get enough!
However, we eventually had to leave and make our way back to the cars for our caravan to Albany.
Picture
After a short while, it was decided to go our separate ways to our short stay accommodations in Albany, as us vegans had wanted to have dinner at Strong Hearts Cafe in Syracuse, which although we were ordering take out, was about 10 minutes out of the way.

The kids and I rocked out as we drove, and arrived at the cafe somewhere after 10pm, we placed our orders and indulged in some very yummy ice cream shakes while we waited.
Picture
Then it was back on the road...
When we were about an hour and a half away from Albany, I received a text from Elisa wondering where we were...and go figure, we were only about 10 minutes behind them!
And once we got within 20 or so minutes from the motel, I started getting kinda sleepy and Cosette sprang into action, turning the music up even louder, and opening the sun roof, being sure to keep me fully alert and so I didn't have to pull over - I was wired - it worked!

We finally pulled up and checked in, even seeing Tedd in the elevator! And it was finally time to unwind, relax and eventually get some sleep!

Okey-dokey signing off now come back for more fun tomorrow!

CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: ALBANY

Our Last Day in Canada

Greetings from Albany, State Capital of The Empire State!!

Our cousins crew arrived back in New York VERY late last night, after a fun-filled last day in Canada!
Picture
Our last day in Canada
Our day started off relatively early yesterday, as we had to drive from Toronto to St. Catharine (about a 90 minute drive) in order to arrive at White Meadow Farm for an 11:00AM Maple Syrup Tour.

Tanya and I set off from two different locations as me, Tedd and Kelsey had stayed at The Grand Hotel for our third night in Toronto.  Gianna opted to stay at the rental house with Tanya, Cosette & Dominc.

Our original plan was to meet up and caravan it to White Meadow Farm, but my gang got off to a slightly later start.  Traveling separately, and leaving about 25 minutes later than my Cuz, I still managed to haul a$$ on the QEW and only wound up arriving at the farm three minutes past the hour of 11!  I was pretty amazed we were not as late as we anticipated.

This farm, the tour and the people were, in a word, AWESOME!!!

I have to hand it to my “travelin’ cousin” Tanya for researching this tour after we spotted the sign for the tour as we were driving on the highway on the way to Toronto from Niagara a few days ago.

She totally followed through and this was absolutely one of the best attractions we did on our road trip!

I did not know much the farming and processing of maple syrup, but, boy did I learn a lot today.  Our guide (and owner of White Meadow Farm, Murray was a wonderful tour guide.

He did not miss a beat in telling us from start to finish, the way in which maple syrup is created.
Our tour started inside where we it all begins - with sap from the maple tree.

Murray showed us a bottle of sap, which really just resembles water.  From this point, it is heated until it reaches a certain temperature, and that is when it becomes maple syrup. Easy enough, right?

Not quite. After being shown the various pieces of equipment used during the heating and filtering process (this process insures that any bits of sediment are removed so the syrup is nice and smooth), we were escorted outside to the "truck" where Murray drove us into the forest, where the tour got super interesting and fun!

We learned about the diversity of trees in the forest, and the steps that go into harvesting the sap.  For instance, did you know that a tree needs to be at least 40 years old to "tap" it for sap or it can die?   Or that the season for gathering maple sap is only from February to April.

The native Americans were making maple syrup for thousands of years - something I wasn't aware of.

I also learned that if you freeze maple syrup (the unprocessed kind that is produced by farms like White Meadow Farms), it will still pour out liquid and not freeze.

Tanya and I will be doing a full article about the details of this tour as well as LOTS of interesting facts about Maple Syrup!! Stay tuned!!

The Cousins at White Meadow Farm on Maple Syrup Tour
The biggest treat (literally) was when we had the opportunity to taste "Taffy on Snow" which is just heated maple syrup poured on ice and rolled up into taffy.  Boy was it delicious!! Everyone enjoyed this, the last segment of our tour!!

Many thanks to Murray's son, Nicholas, who presented us with this sweet delight!

When the tour was over, Tedd and I headed over to the Maple Sweet Show, while Tanya walked with the four kids to the petting zoo to see the animals.

The shop was filled with everything maple!! I snatched up a few 1-liter bottles of maple syrup, as well as some maple covered peanuts, and maple barbeque sauce!  So much to buy - I had to refrain from buying up all the goodies!!

From the Sweet Shop, I headed right over to the Pancake House, where my gang sampled the pancakes with maple syrup and I indulged in a Maple Hot Chocolate which was so yummy!!!

Our visit was truly delightful and one of the highlights for me.  But, our day was far from over.  We got our caravan going and headed to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls to walk around the town.

We did a little shopping, took some photos from this vantage point and Kelsey and I took a ride on the SkyWheel, where captured some great views of the Falls!! Not to mention, a whole bunch of selfies and a video from inside our ferris wheel car.

Last and final stop for the day was Cave of Winds on the American side of Niagara Falls.

As you may remember, we never did make it here the other day when we did Maid of the Mist.  So, upon returning to Niagara Falls today on our way back to New York, this was on our agenda.

Ok folks, I totally pooped out on this one.  I was little tired and had a bad sinus headache.  But nothing stood in the way of Tanya and the four kids.  They proceeded like troopers and battled the torrents of the Falls and got soaked!!! Check out Tanya's side for more photos!!

We walked around the Grand View Marketplace and took yet more pictures.  I was on overload by this point and just wanted to get on our way to our stop for the night - Albany.

The ride was pretty long and Tedd and I switched off driving.  We didn't arrive until 1am.  We did "down and dirty" and stayed at a Red Roof Inn, which was perfectly fine.  But, when we pulled up and got our bags out of the trunk, I told Gianna to wheel her's and she replied "Isn't there a bellhop?"  That is what I get for introducing my daughter to the finer things in life.  I got a good laugh at that one!!

I'm calling it a night folks - signing off at 2:48Am as we have another early day to hit the state capitol and get to Ramblewild!

Will see ya back here tomorrow from back home on Long Island!!
