Friday and Freezing!Hey there! How are you today? Let me tell you, we have been riding a cold spell the past few days here in New York First of all, yesterday was FREEZING! When I left my house at 10:30 AM to go to lunch with my Aunt Ro, it was 13 degrees!!! Thank goodness for the absolutely gorgeous sunshine or I'm sure that wind chill would have been a lot worse! I had a lovely lunch at Ovelia. Check out this link for the menu - I had the Lentil-Tomato Soup and the Hummus with Pita. Mmmmmmm!! Today is a tad better at 24 degrees at the time of this writing, but we are expecting a very frigid weekend with temps no higher than the 20's. This week went so fast - I can't believe it's Friday already! Gianna is still under the weather, but getting progressively better. What's up for the weekend? Well, change in the original plan. I was going to head out east to take the girls horseback riding, but now there are two factors - one, Gianna being sick; but, normally, I still would have taken Kelsey, however, it's supposed to be freezing tomorrow and I think it might just be too cold for riding in the barn for six hours. So, I'll be staying local instead. With this change, Kelsey will be attending a birthday party for one of her friends locally. Honestly, I'm feeling a bit stir crazy and would like to get out. I'm hoping that Gianna will be back in school on Monday and my plan next week is to head into the city one day to visit the Tenement Museum. I've got my sights set on Thursday and I'll purchase online tickets early in the week, if all is looking well. Any exciting plans for the weekend on your end? We really love to hear from you - quite frankly, it makes mine and Tanya's day when we get feedback from our followers! Tell us what you enjoy most about our blog and site; what you would like to hear more about; great places you have visited or are planning to visit - or just drop a line to say HELLO!! I've been thinking of Tanya all night and her mishap on the slopes. Those knees of her's have not had much luck during the past year! Stay Safe Cuz!! I love that Tanya posted the ski codes on her blog today - please be sure to check it out. And PLEASE! VOTE FOR US ---->----> Here's to a fun start to your weekend!! -E | Injuries SUCK!!For those of you that know me, you know that I'm pretty hard core and have always been quite athletic, and with sports (at least the ones that I've been involved in) comes injury. I'm no stranger to injury, but that doesn't mean I hafta like it! So here I am kinda laid up. (sad face) It's a good thing that today is a non-skiing day and a day on the road. I got slammed (crashed into) by a beginner skier yesterday & I sprained my right knee. The day was going quite fine, I'd say even excellent, and then in the last run of the day BOOM! I got hit hard by a beginner and went down - popping my knee while I was at it. At first I couldn't even think about getting up. I was just hoping and praying that I didn't tear or rip my ACL or MCL (again). The kids were standing above me worried and asking if I was okay. I didn't know. Others questioned if I needed ski patrol. I wanted to say no, but I still didn't know. Finally, I positioned myself off of my stomach and moved my legs around (with my arms, as I couldn't move them on their own). I gathered my strength to stand. So far so good. But the big question was if I could turn on my skis - if I couldn't I'd be out for a minimum of several weeks. I was able to ski back to the Goldola on my own two skis! Then after coming off of the mountain, my ability to walk was diminishing and I could only do so with a nasty limp. But at least I could walk! Btw - the "lovely" beginner skier who damped my trip never even said "I'm sorry!" Can you believe that?!?! Well this certainly wasn't the only accident in the mountain today. And one was really really bad - a medical emergency where a snowboarder had crashed into a tree and was taken via medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. No further report on the status. Obviously skiing and snowboard has its dangers. There are rules in place to help prevent such accidents. However they are certainly not enforced as much or as well as they should be. KNOW THE CODE, IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY 1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects. 2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them. 3. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above. 4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others. 5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment. 6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas. 7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely. As for today, I'm stopping at the post office (to finally mail the very late Christmas gifts to Kelsey & Gianna) on our way out of town and to Salt Lake City, which will be almost 600 miles. Time for us to get back on the road! Wish me a speedy recovery! See ya back tomorrow from Utah, -T |
