NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: 94 DAYS

Shopping Saturday in Tahoe

Greetings from Long Island!!
Wow - waking out of LaGuardia Airport last night and getting HIT with that cold air was not very enjoyable, to say the least.

My whole being was still stuck in Florida with the high temps and gorgeous tropic air.
Picture
In any case, thank God, the flight was good and the trip home was uneventful.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and everyone that endured the horror at Fort Lauderdale Airport yesterday.

As I was on my way back home last evening, Tanya was on the road, on her way to Lake Tahoe. We spoke briefly as my plane was about to take off.

I'm looking forward to the full low-down in her Scoop today, regarding her drive and evening on this, the her first trip of 2017.

To kick off the first Shopping Saturday of 2017, let's take a looksee at what Lake Tahoe has to offer...

LAKE TAHOE (c) ironman.com
When people think of Lake Tahoe, sports, attractions and the beautiful setting is usually what springs to mind.

Most are not comtemplating shopping, but did you know that this destination has something for everyone throughout the area in its numerous retail centers.

Lake Tahoe shopping blends sports gear shops, indie boutiques, galleries, gift shops and furniture stores.

I'm sure Tanya can attest to this from the many times she has been here.  And while she is no stranger to the slopes, in between her downhill mountain runs, she is also a shopping Diva.

I know she will chat it up a bit in her blog about some of the best purchases she has made and what her favorite shops are.

As for your's truly, sitting in the comfort of yet another shopping haven - Long Island's Tanger Outlet in Riverhead - I'm going to give you a bit of insight into a few of the most noteworthy retail therapy destinations for your next visit!

Unfortunately, today I had to attend an early morning funeral service for a life-long family friend.  It was heartbreaking to say goodbye and filled with the memories of great times and laughs was and will be the greatest comfort going forward.

The girls got a ride to the barn this morning with one of their good friends, thank goodness, which freed me up to attend the service.

I'll see ya back here tomorrow for a more indepth look at North & South Tahoe and their respective similarities and differences.

Till then,
-E

CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: LAKE TAHOE

Travel Fiascos

Greetings from Incline Village - Lake Tahoe!
Picture
My cuz Elisa and I are tag teaming vacations for you. She just got back home yesterday from a lovely visit to Boca Raton and on the same day my gang just started on our way up north for our trip to Lake Tahoe.

And boy oh boy were we glad to FINALLY get here last night (or should I say early this morning).

I'm suppose to be out there on the slopes this morning and guess what - here I am and I'm not out there.

It really sucks when plans don't go as planned!

What a freakin FIASCO!!!!

So let me tell you just how ridiculous yesterday turned out....

The day actually started off super fantastic!
I even managed to book yet another trip (Park City) before even leaving on this one!

We were finishing up a few things around the house that needed to be done and then was gonna make our way out.
Cosette and I even had the time to bop around to a few stores before we were planning to hit the road.

As you know I am a BIG FOODIE and with that come being a BIG FAN of good bread - not bad bread (of which I won't eat - yes remember I am picky). With this being said and since we weren't leaving at our usual 5am (or anything close) I really wanted to go pick up a loaf or 2 or 3 (or more but I won't tell).

I was shopping around on a high after booking Park City for my birthday trip in March. The day was going well. Cosette and I also stopped at Kohl's to use up some collected Kohl's Cash and we were quite happy with our findings.
Picture
We got home, loaded up the truck and off we went!

Being that Los Angeles traffic is so unpredictable and apparently ALWAYS THERE.
We hit it early on and it was misrable!

I could drive for hours on end and enjoy myself behind the wheel, but the minute you stick me in traffic (especially on a road trip) I really start to go bonkers!

When we finally escaped the LA traffic we were already behind schedule and heading to the Sacramento airport to pick up Dave B. who was landing at 9:55p.

While on the road I had a couple of DOH moments when I realized that I forgot to toss a few things into my bag that never really made my "list".
I also got a message saying that his flight was delayed. Well this actually worked for us, since we weren't gonna be there in time anyhow.

The rest of the drive was fairly uneventful except for a period that we were driving through Fresno.
Picture
And the fields and groves that were along side the freeway were all a blaze - there was a HUGE fire that we drove past.
It was crazy and of course during the craziness I forgot to pull my camera out and hand it to Dave C. until the end.

So my little video clip doesn't really show you much of what we we seeing.
Continuing on the road until we arrived at Sacramento International Airport, where poor Dave B was already waiting for us.

Next stop Lake Tahoe. Usually a 2 hour drive from Sacramento, the weather had kicked it up a notch and caused us to take nearly 3 hours getting to our resort.
But all was well because we were finally here.
Or were we?

I stepped out into the freezing cold and into the virtual office to check us into our condo unit.
And for some reason the front desk associate had me waiting forever as he looked up our reservation.

THEN he comes back to me and appologizes that somehow they overbooked and that all they have to offer us is a studio/suite sized room with a Murphy bed!
And have you the unit has a max capacity of 2 people!!!

At this point it was well after 3am and we were beyond ready to get out of the car and into a room - any room.

So we accepted the small room for the one night. Noting that this was to be dealt with and resolved by morning.

We then parked and started to unload, I entered the unit and I knew that once the gang saw it that the adults would realize that this was better than sleeping in the SUV, but the kids would freak out as to how small it really was and how a few of us had to sleep on the floor!

In related reading:
Do you remember when we had a
CAR NAP IN CARNAC?

And that brings us to today, the weather is yucky as we woke up to more of a wintery mix rather then a beautiful snow fall.

So no hitting the slopes today and I still have to get this room situation fixed!

Please be sure to check out Elisa's column and read all about the fun shopping locations that are located around Lake Tahoe.

Since I'm not hitting the slopes, I think it's a pretty good excuse to hit the stores!!

Being that I've spent much more time vacationing on the south side of Lake Tahoe, I usually shop at The Shops at Heavenly Village, stores & eateries galore, a movie theater, mini golf, and ice skating rink, galleries and more!
Picture
Where they offer an eclectic mix of products, from fashionable lifestyle apparel and accessories to sporting goods and art. Revive yourself with a latte and light lunch or meet up with friends and family for dinner at one of the Shops' eateries. Plus most shops and eateries will offer validated parking with a minimum purchase.

But I do recall a lovely little gift shop that is not too far from here and that I'm eager to go back to and check out!
Picture
The store is The Potlatch, located at 930 Tahoe Blvd. #401, Incline Village, NV 89451
It's filled with unique goods and somewhere that you can find something for everyone. Plus they are a real pillar in the community supporting local events!

Well I've got to go straighten thing out around here and hopefull come back to you tomorrow with everything being resolved.

Wishing you a wonderful Saturday!

Ciao 4 Now,
-T
