January 19, 2016 - Tanya's Ski Trip to Vail & Breckenridge, Colorado - Day 5

A Day of Readjustments!

Sometimes there's just nothing better than sitting in front of the fireplace, listening to the cracking fire, and watching the snowfall while catching glimpses of the burning embers.

Sure I'd love to be swooshing down the slopes, but I promised the kids a day off and here it is!
I've got nothing to complain about!!

Greetings from Dillon, Colorado - located  about 5.5 miles from the Keystone Ski Resort.
This is where we are staying until Sunday and then moving on the our ski in/ski out accommodations in Breckenridge.

As you might recall, I typically stay in Vail for the first week on this annual (and sometimes Biennial ski trip), but this time around I decided to do something a bit different - ya know change things up a bit. And chose to stay here in Dillon.

Really how could ya blame me, with its 26 miles of shoreline surrounded by a breathtaking mountainous backdrop it's a quintessential mountain community located in the heart of Summit County.

As you know today is TRAVELIN' TUESDAY here at Travelin' Cousins and I'm doing just that - Travelin'!

But just because I'm on one trip doesn't mean that I stop planning others!
It always cracks up my friends and family when they realize what I'm doing...Yes I'm guilty as charged. I plan trips even when I'm on trips!

Speaking of which, accommodations are booked and Dave & I are all signed up for the upcoming Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA taking place this April. More info on the World's Largest Cycling event as we get closer!

​Now let's talk more about the mountains and this skiing trip...
Yesterday the kids and I headed out to revisit Keystone.

​The weather was beautiful, the skies were a vibrant blue that was spotted with white clouds that were swiftly moving across the sky.

​If you know me, and by now (if you have been a loyal follower or subscriber) I'm sure you do.
I hate wearing the same outfits over and over - hence why I pack so much!

At least an outfit a day is what I say!

Anyhow, when it comes to skiing, it's a bit more difficult to bring a different ski outfit for a 2+ weeks ski trip, which is why I pack pieces that I can mix and match! ​

Which brings me to yesterday.
I was of course wearing a different outfit from the day before, and there as we were heading to our first lift of the day when I noticed an odd draft...
I looked down and gasped.
There was a tear in my ski pants!

Now of course the draft wasn't in the leg or anyplace else that wouldn't be so freakin' embarrassing - yes it was in the crotch (sorry to be so vulgar, but what else could I call it?).

And yes I was about to turn beet red!
It was all coming back to me - I vaguely began remembering a tear that needed repair. But I guess I never took care of that...

What to do? What to do? My jacket wasn't long enough to cover up the fact.
​I ackwardly inched my way toward the lift trying to hide the slit in my pants. Once we were on the chair, we could no longer refrain from the laughter that had built up within us.

​Then it hit me...I could switch jackets with Cosette!
*Luckily we had gone shopping and picked her up a new pair of ski pants on Sunday night.
Because if she were wearing her older ones - this just would not do! I'd have to remain the laughing stock for the rest of the day!  

So off we went to go do a switch-a-roo, and I came out much more comfortable.

​However what I failed to mention to you was how much Cosette was complaining about her boot hurting her shin.
So after a short while and seeing that she was in pain, we had to find a spot to stop and try to adjust her boot (praying that this was all it would take).

Thankfully after a quick adjustment, we were in business and had a fantastic day on the slopes!

Elisa's Daily Scoop

Back in the Saddle

Hey there!
Well, first a brief rant about my internet issues yesterday.  I kept going in and out and as a result, I was unable to complete my blog!

I was more than annoyed.  Thank goodness, dear cousin (as always) filled in the gap and brought you a wonderful segment about her little adventure getting STUCK on the road.  Ugh!

But, I was glad to read on that all ended well with a lovely day of skiing in Keystone!

So, back to my day.  Yesterday, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, me and the girlies just hung out and relaxed.

We returned from a second day of riding on Sunday late afternoon and I decided (with the first snow of 2016 starting to fall), that I would go food shopping and fill the car up with gas.  

We weren't sure what the day had in store for us yesterday, so I thought it best to stock up.

From two days of riding, the girls were totally beat. But, boy, did they do great!!!  Unfortunately, at one point, Kelsey fell off.  Lucky enough, she held on to her reins and it was a smooth fall.

​She was more than stoked to see that I actually caught it on video (why, I can't understand, but as long as my little girl was happy) See video below

Of course, Mom was having a minor heart attack!

Gianna did really well too!!  Both girls improve with every time they ride!

So, guess who came to visit us again?? Squirrels!!
Yes, my friends, that's right. They're back!! These little guys were probably looking for a nice, warm place to hang out but unfortunately, my home is not currently available for borders!!

Today I had the pest control come, once again to set up the traps.  I'm hopeful that we will be squirrel free within the week.

I also finalized covering the rest of my furniture outside for what is supposed to be a big storm this coming weekend.
