Elisa's Daily ScoopYellowstone Trip - Lotsa Driving!Hey there!! My favorite day is here - Travelin' Tuesday! You know this is my favorite day of the week - we get to talk with you about our upcoming trips! But, first, let me tell you where we are with the weather her on Long Island. Yesterday, we were hit once again by snow! I have to say, my patience is wearing thin with this snow. When the kids got home on the bus, the snow was coming down hard. I had serious doubts last night that there would be a snow day today but I was pleasantly surprised to get a call informing us that there was a 2-hour delay again today! Boy were the kids happy!! Now I hope it melts! Ok - so onto travel talk... COUSINS YELLOWSTONE ROAD TRIP... Today, Tanya and are unveiling the first of our Travelin' Tuesday overviews of our Cousins Yellowstone Road Trip. We will be covering a lot of ground on this trip as we arrive into Jackson Hole, Wyoming, visit Grand Teton National Park and then head towards West Yellowstone and visit Yellowstone National Park. Due to the fact that we will be traveling early in the season, not all the roads will be open for a straight run. As a result, we will be driving through three states - Wyoming, Montana and Idaho to hit all of our destinations. Originally, the plan was to just visit Yellowstone and the area surrounding. But, then when Tanya and I realized that we would need to fly into Jackson Hole, we thought, why not spend some time at Grand Teton National Park as well! Let's take a look at the itinerary for what we hope will be at least a 550 Mile road trip. * Day 1: Me and my gang will start off in New York City and fly to Jackson Hole, Wyoming via Salt Lake City, Utah for a total of 2,194 miles for a duration of approximately 8 hours. * Night 1: Spend the night in Jackson Hole at hotels. * Day 2: Drive from Jackson Hole to Grand Teton National Park which is a 30 mile drive for a full day visiting this amazing destination. * Night 2: Leave Grand Teton and head back to Jackson Hole traveling back 30 miles to our hotel for a second night. * Day 3 Check out of our Jackson Hole Accommodations and begin our drive towards West Yellowstone, Montana via Idaho. I would like to direct you to Tanya's column where she will continue the route and explain why it is necessary for us to drive through Idaho in order to go north to Yellowstone. ---->>>>---->>>>---->>>>---->>>> She also has an amazing map that shows our driving route from Jackson Hole to West Yellowstone. Although this trip will only be 7 nights for me and the girls, I know we will cover a great deal of open road, sights, great food and cousins fun!! See ya back here next Tuesday when we talk more about the details of each location along the way!! Hope your day is amazing!!! See ya back here tomorrow! -E | Tanya's Daily ScoopWhat to do if the Road is Closed...Hiya Everyone! UPDATES: New and exciting additions to our Travel Calendar! 1) We had such an amazing time in Quebec, that we have unanimously decided to go back next year for the 62nd Annual Quebec Winter Carnaval! *Whadda ya say Elisa? Danielle? Come on gals!! 2) We are going back to Scotland!! So excited that we are going to do a Bike Tour of the Outer Hebrides and then explore the oh so beautiful Highland in the spring of 2016! Yippie!! 3) Gonna check the Greek Islands off of my bucket list! We are going on a cruise of the Greek Islands in August of 2016, and you know that can only mean that I'll be adding on plenty of more exploring while we are away! And finally what you've been waiting for: We are quite excited to bring to you our next planned Cousins Trip - The Cousins Yellowstone Road Trip!!! Boy oh boy are we excited! And you should be too! While this trip was planned, neither Elisa nor I had taken into consideration the ROAD CLOSURES due to winter conditions. Not that we are traveling in the winter, however a good thing to keep in mind when traveling to a National Park or to any mountainous winter destination is the ROAD CLOSURES! This is what we have to encounter for Yellowstone National Park: 2015 Spring Road Opening Dates: Weather permitting, roads open at 8 am. Changes and delays are always possible. April 17: Mammoth to Old Faithful;Madison to West Entrance;Norris to Canyon. May 1: Canyon Junction to Lake;Lake to East Entrance (Sylvan Pass). May 8: Lake to South Entrance;Tower Junction to Tower Fall. May 22: Tower Fall to Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass); Beartooth Highway. June 11: Old Faithful to West Thumb (Craig Pass). So, as you can see, in a sense we really lucked out with the timing of our trip! We will be able to utilize the West Entrance... Whew! However being that the South Entrance will be closed until May 8th, we now have to drive an alternate route to West Yellowstone then we had originally planned for. Guaranteed that it will be beautiful nonetheless, it wasn't quite what we had planned. Luckily not adding many additional miles to our trip... Another "Whew"! Thankfully we are flexible and that there is always a Plan B (or 24 other letters to work with if Plan A falls through)! Please be sure to read Elisa's side for more info on the first few days and our initial game plan! <<<<<<<<< Meet us back here next Tuesday for all further Travelin' updates!! And I'll catch ya back here tomorrow for more fun on the Daily Scoop, -T |
