Game Capture Adventure in the African Bush
Welcome to a new week!! It also happens to be the last week in August and alittle over a week till school officially starts again.
Wow! How did that happen? This summer went by very quickly and in all honesty, it was not the greatest with the passing of my Dad back in June (27th to be exact). Me and my girls made the best of it, however, even though we didn't do that much and had to cancel our Sicily trip and even the few weekend excursions (Boston and Pittsburgh) as our heads were just not in the right state to go off on travel adventures. However, we will be enjoying this week. In fact, we decided that we would celebrate Kelsey's 13th Birthday a little early, (Her official birthday is September 14th) by heading into NYC for a Broadway matinee this Wednesday.
Actually, it was Aunt Ro's idea to take Kelsey to a show, knowing how much my girl LOVES, LOVES LOVES Broadway - especially musicals.
Our plan is to meet up early in Times Square and see what's available at TKTS for discount same-day tickets. So, actually, it's going to be quite a surprise as to what we will see! We'll let Kelsey select the show since the day is in her honor. Guest Blogger article... Way back in 2014, my friend Kaye Perron took an incredible trip through Africa - truly a trip of a lifetime! She was kind and enthusiastic enough to write about her summer adventures for Travelin' Cousins after her return. Today, and next Monday we will be reprinting this 2-part feature.
Game Capture Adventure in the South African Bush Part 1
I have recently returned from a fantastic trip to Africa. Over my three months there, I had many unique experiences. In South Africa, I stayed on a farm with extended family. I had the opportunity to join the man of the house, Bruce, a retired veterinarian, on several game capture missions near their home and in northern Zululand on the border of Swaziland.
Since retiring from private practice, Bruce has worked as the on-site veterinarian for game capture missions. Private parks trade animals with other parks and use capture teams supervised by veterinarians to catch and transport the animals. He mostly works with an antelope specifies called Nyala. While there, I had a very unique opportunity to accompany Bruce on two capture outings. Read more...
### Today, I'll be (hopefully) encouraging my daughters to finish up their Summer reading assignments with a short break in between to take Kelsey to get new school shoes. I will also need to hit the post office for some returns for some clothes I recently purchased. Hope you enjoyed Tanya's pics from her day of baseball fun! Here's to a wonderful start of a brand new week! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
