Tanya's Daily Scoop
NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: 19 DAYS

A day to CELEBRATE!

GREETINGS, Happy Saturday, and a BIG FAT WHOPPING HAPPY BIRTHDAY
to my dear sweet and just turned 5 year old niece Chaplin!
Picture
With all of the excitement, this little girl woke up hours earlier than usual. She is a pretty big fan of Birthdays and Holidays (if I may say so myself)!
Picture
A little bit about yesterday...
I spent the day at the stables, then running a quick errand for my mom, no matter what I am doing I'm always working on bookings and trip plans, then lent a hand to help a friend who is clearing out her business warehouse, before heading home to whip up dinner, type up the IPC board minutes, and wrap some presents.

Today we have plenty to celebrate with Chaplin and the rest of the family, but first we are heading out to a performance for the IPC at an MS Walk.
We'll be meeting everyone at FREESOUL CAFFE for a yummy brunch.
(Click on the link for more info)

Then I believe the plan is to go to the Beach, and back home for dinner, cake, more celebrations and presents, lots of lots of presents!

Thanks to Elisa for also finding out that TODAY is also Hairstylist Appreciation Day & Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.
Wow, who knew that the calendar had all of these interesting days!!

Soooo speaking of hair, with all of the busyness yesterday, I didn't get around to doing anything decent with my own hair. Which means that today will probably be a double bun type of day!! LOL

Check out Elisa's column to find out what the World's Most Expensive Haircuts are...
Holy Smokes are some of them OUTRAGEOUS!
Ch-Ching$$$$

What I decided would be fun in appreciation of Hairstylist Appreciation Day is to list -
A few of the most iconic hairstyles...

Who can forget The Rachel (1994)
By stylist Chris McMillan.
Picture
And what about The Wedge (1976)
by stylist Yusuke Suga.
Picture
And of course there was the Feathered Flip (1970s)
by hairstylist Allen Edwards
Picture
Who could ever forget Marilyn Monroe's Cropped Glamour Waves
Picture
Or what about the Pixie?
Picture
And to tie hair (no pun intended) into travel...
Did you know that: There is a Hair Museum in Independence, Missouri?!
It's the ONLY one of it's kind in the WORLD!!
Picture
With hundreds of wreaths and thousands of jewelry pieces made from human hair.  The Hair jewelry was worn both by men and women of the Victorian period (1800 - 1900) and earlier. You will find pieces containing hair from Queen Victoria, four presidents and multiple celebrities ranging from Michael Jackson to Marilyn Monroe.

Well there ya have it, so much could be done with HAIR! Sorry if you are Bald :-/

Cosette get a kick out of watching all of the crazy and weird ways to curl your hair - from Pencils to Shoe Laces, Tin Foil to Paper Bags...

I'm certainly not the greatest when it comes to styling - so I'll leave it to the professionals.

Another thing we are celebrating today is adopting shelter pets...

Here are some reasons from BestFriends.org on why to adopt a pet:
  • Buying a pet can easily cost $500 to $1,000 or more. Adoption costs range from $50 to $200, depending on whether the pet comes from the city shelter or a rescue group that has spent money on boarding, vets and grooming.
  • You’re getting more for your money if you get a mixed breed. Based on the well-established principle of “hybrid vigor,” a mixed-breed animal is likely to live longer and cost less in vet bills than a pure breed. Many purebred dogs are prone to developing health problems ranging from breathing difficulties to hip dysplasia to an enlarged heart.
  • When you adopt a pet, you are saving a life. When you buy a pet, you not only deny a homeless pet a home, you are supporting an industry that thrives on short-changing the welfare of animals. Puppy and kitten mills (which sell to pet stores) are in business to make a profit, so they churn out puppies and kittens as fast as they can.
  • If you adopt, you get your choice of any age. Though puppies and kittens are cute and cuddly, they can also be a handful. An adult or older pet may be a better fit for you.

Okay, that's a wrap guys! Have a GREAT ONE!
I gotta run...

Hairstylists & Shelter Pets Celebrated

Happy Saturday!  Wow, am I glad the weekend is here.  This week just tired me out.  Did so much around the house - Spring cleaning and getting rid of lots of old junk.

Anyway, last night, me and the girls went to see the school play, Peter Pan.  It was very adorable!

It was a nice change of pace for a Friday night, as we usually just crash.

Today is an interesting day... it's a celebration of two things: Hairstylist Appreciation Day & Adopt a Shelter Pet Day
Let's first begin with Hair Talk!!

A talented hairstylist will not only make you look good but also make you feel good and today is the day we honor hairstylists everywhere.

I know for me, my hair stylist is someone I have come to trust with my hair and in turn, the overall way I look and feel about myself.  I'm not alone when it comes to how I view this special relationship.

My own stylist, Ismari, has grown into a trusted friend as well and I'd be hard pressed to let just anyone cut, color and style my hair.

CLICK HERE for more about Ismari's Hair Place on Long Island. And I want to send a big shout out to Ismari, Blanca and the entire staff!
Picture
Ismari, me and Blanca of Ismari's Hair Place.
This day also celebrates the uniqueness of all styles of hair, which allows us to express our individuality.

When it comes to hair, I can't think of anyone that does not express themselves with the way in which they wear their hair or lack thereof, for that matter!

New styles, innovative processes and cutting edge looks are what make great stylists and give Hair Salons their reputation and following.

But, how much would you pay for your hair to be styled?  $600?  $1000? $23,000???
Believe it or not, some internationally renown hair stylists command that much!

According to thericher.com, individuals actually pay those exorbitant prices to get their locks coiffed!

Check out the World's Most Expensive Haircuts in the World...starting from No. 10 and working our way to No. 1.

BEFORE I GO ANY FURTHER - A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LITTLE COUSIN CHAPLIN ON HER 5TH BIRTHDAY!!
Picture
Today is also another very important day - it's National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day!!

You know how important we take pet adoption and saving those homeless pets here on Travelin' Cousins.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30.  This day was created as a way to raise awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters.

My dear, sweet Liberty (RIP) was adopted as a puppy from a local shelter.  I lost my sweetie last May and still cannot believe this beauty was a part of my life for close to 14 years.  The joy she brought me can never be expressed.

Some sad statistics about Shelter Animals:

* Each year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are killed every year because shelters are too full and there aren’t enough adoptive homes.

* The main reasons animals are in shelters: owners give them up, or animal control finds them on the street.

3. Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.

It's so important that we spread the word to ADOPT rather than SHOP for our furry family members!
Picture
Sad Sam and Honey(R), spokes pups for Shelter Animals (c)georgevalentino
Sad Sam and Honey(R) are SpokesPups for shelter pets everywhere, hoping to end "kill- shelters."

What you can do:
1) Be a spokesperson for shelter pets and encourage friends and family to adopt from shelters.

2) Support "No-Kill" shelters all over.

3) Spread the word on social Media.

Well, my dear ones, I'm outta here.  Back to watch my girlies ride at the barn.

Talk to you tomorrow when we wish our Orthodox Christians a Happy Easter and take a trip to...Greece!!

-E
xoxo
