Tanya's Daily Scoop
NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: 24 DAYS

Trips are Brewing in my Head!

Well well well, it's a new week and already the last week of April!
Wow! Is this year flying by or what?

How was everyone's weekend?

I shared with you yesterday all of our events from Saturday, and now I'll go into SCOOP about yesterday...  Which was a super fun day at the mall!

Ya know one of those days where pretty much everything goes well...

We were successful in shopping for Chaplin's birthday, as well as finding some goodies and shopping success for both Dave and myself.

We finally (kinda) picked up the cute Jumper from Bebe (it's being shipped). And while we were there, we also found a couple of pretty little trinkets..
Picture
Then we were successful in a pair of shoes that we had our eyes on.
Picture
Boy were these shoes STRIKING once on!

The funny thing about them, was that I asked to try on a size 9.

I'm usually a 9 - 9.5 (don't ask where I got my long narrow feet from - okay if you want to know, it's my beloved Grandfather), anyhow the size 9's were a bit on the big side, so I tried on the 8.5 and those worked out much better.

The next pair they didn't have in the size 9, so they attempted to locate them at another location.

But since the first pair of shoes worked better in the 8.5, I asked if they had an 8.5 for me to try - guess what...the 8.5 in this shoe was too big on me?!
Picture
What the heck??? Is my foot shrinking or are sizes just wacked out?!

Anyhow they didn't have a size 8 at this location, and found it and placed it on hold for me at another location - hopefully I'll be able to go pick there up tonight!
BTW while we were picking up the shoes, a few more items caught our eye and we snagged those as well!

Off to try on Sunglasses - I really need (or want) a new pair before going on this upcoming trip to Europe.
After trying on several pairs, I finally narrowed it down to what I liked - but I wanted to think about it a bit before deciding to purchase.

After a while going back to the store and getting not only the original pair, but also a pair for cycling!
Picture
Picture
We then made a run into Express, ya know - to do a lap, and found Dave a few lovely items, as well as a really cute pair of Culottes for myself!
Picture
Let's face it I'm a SHOPAHOLIC!
Picture
So let's move on to chatting about travel, and today the focus is on Vienna, Austria.

I clearly remember when Elisa was booking her first trip to Vienna & Prague (we were all on a Gettysburg road trip at the time), and I was so jealous! I really wanted to go!
But due to family obligations I always make sure that I am home with my mumsy, and the fam bam on Easter and Christmas, as well as as many birthdays as I can manage...without making any exceptions to miss the wee ones birthdays.

And thus I could not join Elisa and family on that vacation.

So the moment that Elisa had made mention about wanting to go back and us doing a cousins Euro Rail Trip - I was all over that!

Needless to say that I was in!
All in!

And so last summer (2015), Elisa and I had a most wonderful time hitting several cities along the way and Vienna being towards the end of that trip.
Picture
So if you know me (and by now, I kinda figure that you do)...there are certain places that I visit and it's a one time deal. No need for me to go back. I went, I saw, I bought the tee shirt, I'm over it...

But Vienna was certainly NOT one of those places - I went, I saw, I bought the tee shirt, and I am not done. I want to go back. I need to go back.
I will go back.

Picture
It is a beautiful city and with oh so much history, not to mention a plethora of vegan food (okay so I mentioned it).

It was one of those places that even while I was still there, I was planning a future trip in my head!
Taking the kids and doing even more exploring...
Picture
Here's what I have in mind:
I'm gonna plan a trip to Berlin, and make a few more stops along the way in Germany, this trip will include going back to Vienna, and also going to
Ceský Krumlov in Czech -
DID YOU KNOW: The Czech Republic is getting a new name: Czechia

We'll continue the trip into going back to Krakow and exploring more of Poland!

Now the only thing is WHEN am I going to do this? The answer is I don't know yet.

My calendar is ALWAYS pretty full, but I've gotta find a few openings for these new trips that are developing in my mind!

Anyhow, that's where I'm at.

Busy busy day today, and I'm gonna say
Ciao 4 Now,
-T

NEXT VISIT: 4 DAYS

Hello, Hello!  Today is just one of those days that I'm running around like a chicken without a head.

But, I realized last night that it was two years ago that I was in Vienna!  We traveled to Prague and Vienna a month before starting the Travelin' Cousins blog with Tanya!!

AND, what's more, today is the anniversary of when Dr. Sigmund Freud opened his first Psychiatric office in Vienna in 1886.

So, Tanya and I thought it would be a good reason to focus on Vienna and the current Sigmund Freud Museum.
Picture
Before I do, let me tell you about my day yesterday.  Well, as I had mentioned, the girls' usual riding day was switched this past weekend from Saturday to yesterday, due to a personal obligation on the part of their trainer.

I was very excited about the prospect of dropping them off and then heading to west to the Long Island Maritime Museum.

HOWEVER, the duties of a mother always come first and my dear Gianna asked me to stay at the barn so I could film while she, Kelsey and the rest of the Dream Come True Farm riding team practice their courses and jumping, for the YouTube channel she manages.

So, I will make it to the Maritime Museum another time (insert sigh).

So, back to Vienna!!

Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe and filled with a plethora of history and culture. Known for
The House of Habsburg or House of Austria, which was one of the most influential royal houses of Europe, being a world stage for music, Swarovski crystal and the Alps, it also was the home of the founder of Psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud.

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Freud Museum during my trip to Vienna back in the Spring of 2014.
The Museum is located in the building where Dr. Freud's last office was prior to his death at Rathausstrasse 7, Vienna.

16 Interesting Facts About
Sigmund Freud

Picture
1. Sigmund Freud was born on May 6, 1856 in Příbor, Czech Republic and died on September 23, 1939 in Hampstead, United Kingdom.

2. He was an Austrian neurologist and the father of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst.

3. Freud was born to Galician Jewish parents in the Moravian town of Freiberg, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

4. He qualified as a doctor of medicine in 1881 at the University of Vienna.

5. Freud developed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process.

6. Freud was born to Galician Jewish parents in the Moravian town of Freiberg, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

7.  In 1938 he left Austria to escape the Nazis and died in exile in the United Kingdom the following year.

8. In 1882, Freud began his medical career at the Vienna General Hospital. His research work in cerebral anatomy led to the publication of a seminal paper on the palliative effects of cocaine in 1884 and his work on aphasia would form the basis of his first book On the Aphasias: a Critical Study, published in 1891.

9. In 1886, Freud resigned his hospital post and entered private practice specializing in "nervous disorders". The same year he married Martha Bernays, the granddaughter of Isaac Bernays, a chief rabbi in Hamburg.

10. The couple had six children.

11. Freud began smoking tobacco at age 24; initially a cigarette smoker, he became a cigar smoker. He believed that smoking enhanced his capacity to work and that he could exercise self-control in moderating it.

12. Despite health warnings from colleague Wilhelm Fliess, he remained a smoker, eventually suffering from cancer.

13. In February 1923, Freud detected a leukoplakia, a benign growth associated with heavy smoking, on his mouth.

14. Freud's cancer of the jaw had been declared to be inoperable by mid-September 1939 and he subsequently died on September 23rd.

15. The concept of the unconscious was central to Freud's account of the mind. Freud believed that while poets and thinkers had long known of the existence of the unconscious, his work insured that it received scientific recognition in the field of psychology.

16. Freud believed that people are driven by two conflicting central desires: the life drive (libido or Eros) (survival, propagation, hunger, thirst, and sex) and the death drive.

Wow - what an amazing man!!  The museum is a full of photos and original belongings of Dr. Freud and well worth visiting while in Vienna.

Well, here 's to a great beginning of your week!
