Tower of London and more

Cheer's once again from London!

What a fun day we have planned for today - sightseeing together around the city and a great dinner planned at Jaime Oliver's restaurant!

As for now, we are headed out to start our day...will return below!

Tanya took some great photos, (as usual), so don't forget to check out her side for the photo re-cap of yesterday.
And if you missed the blog yesterday (since we posted quite late, here is the link:

April 18, 2017  - Gianna's 13th Birthday Trip to London - Day 6  &  Tanya's Trip to London - Day 2 - Cousins Re-unite!
PictureCOUSINS REUNITED IN LONDON - FIRST TRIP TO EUROPE TOGETHER (c) travelincousins.com
Well, we are back at the apartment briefly.  After some touring this morning and this afternoon, me and my gang took a brief late afternoon break to return to the hotel before joining up with everyone for dinner.

It was an interesting day (to say the least).

First of all, once again, I was yelling at Gianna until the last possible minute to get up.  As a result, I was rather frazzled since we were supposed to meet Tanya and gang in the apartment lobby at 8:50AM and Gianna was just getting out of bed at 8:45.  I was so fit to be tied!

Our plan was to get to Buckingham palace by 9:30 to wait get a good "standing" location to watch the Changing of the Guard parade.

Between fixing Kelsey's hair, making sure both girls had their jackets, oyster cards for the busses and trains, cameras, cash, tylenol for Gianna's back and then the complaints from both kids, I thought I had everything.

We made it to the train okay and arrived at Green Park, which was a short walk to Buckingham Palace, when I went to grab my phone...I could not find it anywhere.  I was searching high and low through my back pack, my pockets, jacket pockets - but no sign of it.

The worst thought was that I had lost it, so I was hopeful, I just ran out without it. In any case, I totally lost it!  The stress of getting ourselves out yet again because I was waiting for Gianna (considering I was calling her since 7:45AM) and not having anytime to grab breakfast for any of us, I was fried.  Not to mention, I took note that my phone was missing after Gianna was complaining about her back being in all sorts of pain and wanting to take an Aleve which she couldn't because she had to eat first with no time, we could not stop.

PictureACROSS FROM BUCKINGHAM PALACE (c) travelincousins.com

Um - hello - me and Kelsey were hungry too, mind you and had to miss eating because of her tardiness.

So, as I was walking WAAAAY behind the group to accommodate Gianna's slow movement due to her back pain, I just became unglued. As if my freak out several days prior didn't mean anything.

I was pissed!  Like I mean, PISSED.  I told her I was never planning a trip with them again - that they will now stay with sitters and I'm doing all traveling without them!

Now, while Kelsey did not technically do anything, I had had it with her constant comments about i shouldn't do this or say that or I take too many photos and she's not going to be in any more and the list goes on - I just withdrew from the two of them and told them to leave me alone.

The good news is, I called the hotel and they were able to get housekeeping in my room and confirm that my phone was, in fact, left in the room.

Ok - whew - one disaster averted.
However, my phone is also my GPS (which by the way, I'm not getting lost anymore!!!) and my only way of communicating with Tanya since we were splitting up throughout the day.

As for Gianna, I was really done and could not even interact with either kid for about 30 minutes.
And honestly folks, I think I may have to leave them out of travel for a while.  Tanya had asked us if we wanted to join her in Ireland next March - for St. Patrick's Day in Dublin, among other visits around the country.

First off, I had a mental vision of what my next trip to Ireland was going to look like - I'm not 100% sure March of 2018 is doable, HOWEVER, in any case, even if my "mental vision" and "ideal Ireland trip" is not something that can happen by March 2018, and I end up joining Tanya, I WILL definitely NOT be taking the two girls.

I spend way too much time visiting Disney World and other kid-oriented road trips around the country to suit their needs, that I am not emotionally prepared to alter things for Ireland to accommodate their whining, complaining and physical slowdown of all I want to do on this, my second trip to Ireland, not to mention, the vast amount of sightseeing.  And that will not happen if I'm dealing with getting this kid out of bed.

My "speech" today to Gianna was that our vacations together  - i.e. family vacays  - will be somewhere that she (Gianna) can sleep all day  - like Boca Raton to visit my parents or some Caribbean destination that she can lie down all day vegging on a lounge chair!!

Ok - RANT DONE! SIX DEEP BREATHS!

Guys, we are running behind in our blogs here - lol - so much that we are doing, not enough time to sit and write, but we have opted to tell you all about this experience in Thursday's blog post.

Tanya and I split up - me and my gang situating our selves right near Buckingham Palace gate; and Tanya took to the Center of the Street near the Queen Victoria Memorial.  Each of us having quite a different experience and garnering photos from that perspective.

So, stay tuned for more in tomorrow's Daily Scoop (April 20th).

As for today - we made our way over to Tower Hill to experience two iconic places in London - Tower Bridge and The Tower of London.

Our gang split up after roaming around and taking some pictures - my gang had tickets to explore The Tower of London, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

THE NEW CITY MEETS THE OLD - RIGHT NEXT TO TOWER BRIDGE - (c) travelincousins.com
According to the official UNESCO World Heritage Site website:

" The Tower of London is an internationally famous monument and one of England’s most iconic structures. William the Conqueror built the White Tower in 1066 as a demonstration of Norman power, siting it strategically on the River Thames to act as both fortress and gateway to the capital.

It is the most complete example of an 11th century fortress palace remaining in Europe. A rare survival of a continuously developing ensemble of royal buildings, from the 11th to 16th centuries, the Tower of London has become one of the symbols of royalty.

It also fostered the development of several of England’s major State institutions, incorporating such fundamental roles as the nation’s defence, its record-keeping and its coinage. It has been the setting for key historical events in European history, including the execution of three English queens."

We did a great deal of walking and decided to take a late afternoon stop back to the apartment to refresh.

My little trio met up with Tanya and gang for dinner at Jamie's Italian (Jamie Oliver's restaurant).

I'll be chatting a bit more about this experience later on.  We are still deciding if we really liked it.

Please be patient as we are trying to upload so many pictures.  There are clearly some photos missing from our article about our LUSH Spa Tour as Tanya was out the door early this morning. We'll add them later on.

Okay, today, I'll be doing a "Shop till You Drop" day with the girls.

Also, our last and final Afternoon Tea in London in Covent Garden, this time.

More later!!

Keeping up with our Itinerary

Heya Folks and GREETINGS from London!

As you know we left SoCal on Monday. Traveled non-stop to London and arrived yesterday.

At the Delanuney.  And one big reason that we chose this location was because they (unlike a number of other tea locations) offered a vegan menu in addition to their regular menu
Picture
Picture
It was so nice to all sit together and enjoy the London tradition of afternoon tea.
Picture
Trays upon trays of finger sandwiches, small cakes, and scones were delivered and scarfed up.

My fave was the Raspberry puree topped creme dessert which was waaaaaay good!
Picture
The scones...well let's just say that I ate one and leave it at that.
Picture
But the service was very nice and the server had mentioned that they only recently added a vegan menu and just how popular the vegan menu had become!

Next up was a lovely stroll through Covent Garden and to find Neal's Yard..
Picture
Picture
Picture
Of course we couldn't pass a red phone booth without stopping for the photo op and taking the quintessential picture!
Picture
We eventually came upon Neal's Yard and stepped inside of the courtyard to take a gander.

Picture
All the while we were walking - all four of the kiddos were belting out tunes lyric for lyric, one after the next. Until we came upon a street performer who was singing her own tune.
We were heading to Lush - Cosette's absolute favorite store - and one that she requests that we stop at in each major city visited.

However before getting there I had a few other sights for us to see that were kinda "on the way"!

Such as Leicester Square -

Chinatown
Picture
Piccadilly Circus
Picture

Carnaby
Picture
And finally the Lush store on Oxford that had 3 full levels of all the product any Lush fan could ever want!

Lastly we stopped to pick up a take away dinner and call it a night.
Because from the looks on these kid faces - you can tell that they were tired!

Today we are heading to see the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Elisa will take the girls in to see the Tower of London while I take the kiddos to the Tower Bridge Experience.

Going to Camden Yards is also on the list and a family dinner at Jamie Oliver's Italian Restaurant in Covent Garden.

Be sure to come back for the FULL SCOOP tomorrow!

COUSINS PRIVATE TOUR OF LUSH SPA - OXFORD STREET, LONDON FLAGSHIP STORE
By Elisa & Tanya
Picture(c) travelincousins.com
Have I mentioned how much Gianna and Cosette LOVE Lush?!  Well, no matter where in the world these girlies are, they have to visit Lush.  I'll admit, it is quite a fun and upbeat store and it smells... well, in a word Divine!

As we were approaching the largest Lush store in the world, located on Oxford Street in jolly old London, we could smell that we were close nearly, five stores away!!

This visit was super special, because while we were all roaming about the store, smelling this and trying that, I struck up a conversation with one of the sales girls, and asking some questions about the store, when she asked if we had ever visited the Lush Spa.  I told her I hadn't but she informed me that they rarely do it, but, would I be interested in having a tour of the spa facilities!

Well, what do you think I replied?  I told her I had a gang of six in tow and she was all the more pleased because she wanted to pull together a small group for the tour.

When I told the girls, they were even more excited!  So, off we went and let me tell you, this spa is so different than any other spa you have experienced.  The owner of Lush and management have come up with some altogether clever and original ways to enliven the body, spirit and mind with the treatments they offer!!

Picture
Tanya and I decided to split duties - I took copious notes, while she snapped away!

Our "tour guides" were Carla and Bethen, who were most gracious, knowledgable and a sheer delight. Carla was a wealth of knowledge and made the tour super fun.

With all the hustle bustle, music and crowds in the store, the spa was made to be soundproof for the ultimate in relaxation.  In total there are 10 treatments and we were shown the various spa rooms - all with their own unique theme and special focus.

Picture(c) travelincousins.com
With Oxford Street, being the largest of all the stores, the spa was quite spacious, containing not only a main area upon entering, but an additional four rooms, and a shower room.

We were made privy to four of the treatments, the first of which that we learned about, "Karma" is exclusive to the Oxford Street store at present, although it is anticipated that "Karma" will spread to the other stores that have within them spas.

The theme of this treatment is inspired by the east combining an Indial treatment fused with the modern and there is even an exclusive "Karma" perfume. The main focus of this treatment is to help release negative energy - its motto is "Slow down to speed up."

A stomach massage is an intregal part of this treatment along with working the chakras.  A large urn is used to trickle coconut water into the hair!

Picture
The next treatment is the Comforter Room, which is themed to bring back the warmth and innocence of childhood.  Lights and music are all inspired by childhood, with a heated bed, music playing reminiscent of youth - when we were in there, the songs from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were playing!  There is also a chocolate body scrub massage.

Synaestesia was the treatment room we visited next. It is based on stimulated all of the senses to work together using some interesting techniques that jog your memory, and combine your sense of smell to achieve the most from the spa experience. The oils are labeled with various words and in choosing a word, that scent is then used during the treatment.

Based on a fairy tale originated in Bath, England, Tales of Bath takes you virtually through the story of a man who travels underground and discovers beautiful waters (among other things) and while listening to the soundtrack of the story, you are whisked away in a bath with a glowing bath bomb. The story instructs you when to get out and a special aspect of Tales of Bath is a leg massage, with tranquil music playing.

There is also a room specifically meant to receive a treatment with a friend, with two beds and two therapists!  How fun is that!

Lots of other goodies include snacks and drinks!

The prices were pretty reasonable, in my opinion with all that is offered in each experience.

Comforter - 80 GBP
Tales of Bath - 115 GBP
Synaestesia -  125 GBP
Karma - 245 GB

The least expensive treatment is a deep tissue massage at 50 GBP.

Currently, the Spas are only in the big city store locations including New York, Toronto and with one opening in Japan.

The age requirement is 16 years and over and 14 years old with a parent. Karma is only available to those 18 years an older.

Wow - guess where Gianna and Cosette have on their bucket list now?  I think their moms will be joining in on the fun once the Lush Spas open in a location near each of us!!

Thanks to Carla and Bethen for a wonderful time!
