A Bit of Venting & Photo Contest Submissions
I'm pretty much a stickler for getting my blog posted early, but today, I just couldn't move fast enough.
After dropping the kids off, I went food shopping (yes, I love the supermarket at 8am - so empty and quiet. I'm in and out.
Anyhoo, I did my shopping and put everything away when I got home and went right to work on making a chicken soup. Well, in addition to being very soothing for my still healing tummy, I thought it would help Gianna with her freakin cold.
Now, for the venting! As it turns out, most of her friends are all fighting colds as well. You want me to give you one guess why these poor girls are all sick?? Well, let's take a look at the circumstances.
The weather here in New York and Long Island, in particular has been oppressively hot since these kids returned to school. Both the high school and the elementary school, for which I pay a huge amount in tuition, DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING!
(And by the way, it's no better in the public schools either here in New York! - the kids are wilting there as well from the heat).
So, these kids are sweating their butts off, no a/c and then let's think about it - how much closer to an incubating petri dish can we get than this? Perfect for germs to breed. And God-forbid, one poor individual has a cold or coughs into this hot, humid, stagnant air, well, guess what folks - they all are prime targets to get sick!
Chrome books, smart boards, and kinds of other technology, but no a/c???
But, I actually think I heard the best thing ever today that made my blood boil. Trust, me, I'm not being political here, but my girlfriend's daughter's school in Queens (oh, her daughter is sick too), invested $50,000 to put in transgender bathrooms, but can't come up with the funds to put in a/c?
Ok - my rant is over, but seriously, for the sake of the kids and of course, these poor, dedicated teachers - let's figure this out! It's stupid already.
Photo Contest Submission
Now, onto some exciting stuff. You know how many photographs me and Tanya take - always snapping away, documenting everything from the great to the small, the significant and mundane.
So, when I received an email about Afar Magazine's photography contest, I figured, what the hay; I'll submit.
But, it's not easy! I mean, where to I start? What theme do I go with - well, that's what I'm in the middle of figuring out today. That is one of the reasons I was late getting on here because the deadline for submission is - you guessed it - tonight at 12 midnight.
I've got to get my act together.
I was also finalizing my weekly article for ThisIsTheBronx.info, which will be up and live on the blog tomorrow!
Alright, this is a quick check in - but I wish you guys a happy Thursday!!!

Beach Hopping in Maui
GREETINGS FROM MAUI!
I'm sitting on our balcony overlooking the beach and watching the glistening water as it sparkles from the sun that is rising up behind me.
I can see the island of Molokai which is only a mere 7.5 miles away. It is another lovely morning here in Hawaii.
Today marks our 7th morning on the islands and our 2nd morning here on Maui.
And here on Maui for the first time we actually have my sis Jet, her love Andrew and my sweet niece Chaplin...who absolutely LOVES this Maui vacation and being here on the islands.
In fact she was so darn excited that she woke up in the 6am hour yesterday, causing Jet and Andrew to do the same. Keep in mind that this gang is not a group of early birds. So to say that I was a bit shocked would be an understatement!
Then to top it off the first thing they wanted to do was head down to the beach...
And then BEACHES would be the theme of the day.
We eventually headed back to the hotel room and Jet was shocked that it was only 9am!!
The gang gathered everything needed for the day and we headed out to see Pohaku Beach Park, D.T. Fleming Park, have lunch at Monkeypod, stroll Kaanapali Beach, have yummy shaved ice at Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice then go for an evening swim at the pool.
It was definitely a rather full day and perhaps even more full than my usual days here on the islands.
It was said that Jet and I have switched places here in Maui. Since I'm more laid back and on Island Time which is her usual day to day M.O. (Modus Operandi) and I'm usually always the one on the go! LOL
Off we went and then even before leaving the hotel the first thing that we did was stop in the lobby and check out the hand crafted wood decorative that were being made right before our eyes..

Then we were on our way and the adventure had only just begun...

While there enjoying the surf there was a situation that occurred...
A situation that could've turned out quite bad!
Andrew and a man out of nowhere "aqua man" saved an older lady from getting badly hurt.
The poor woman at first got knocked over by a wave and was on her back and couldn't get up. A friend of hers moved in her direction to assist her.
But then a rather massive and strong wave came and hit, really knocking her around. Her body was being tossed around in the water and hitting against the lava rocks.
At this point it was a bit serious and the lady just could not help herself at all. It took Andrew and "Aquaman" both to pull her up and out of danger!

Once the drama had concluded, we were on our way to check out yet another beach - D.T. Fleming Park.

And after laying out for a while and working up an hunger we were super looking forward to eating at Monkeypod.

After lunch we were rearing to go...
Get some Shaved Ice!
And so a good stroll down Kaanpali Beach and over to Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice was in order.

It was a lovely day and the gang was pretty tired afterwards but not too tired to go for an evening swim in the pool.
Dinner was a nice lettuce wrap and then just relaxing in the room before bedtime.
Today was another early morning and we are now about to head out to the Iao Needle and then some.
