NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: 12 DAYS
To the Symphony
Yes of course I realize that I'm posting late. But rather than not post at all, I want to share the delightful and successful day that we had on Saturday...
Saturday was mostly about prepping for someone's big day (birthday countdown at 6 days), picking up our bibs for the 33rd annual and our 7th Long Beach Marathon, and then going to the symphony!
Our day started with a lovely breakfast at one of our recent regular stops - Mead's Green Door.
After filling our gullets we were energized to get some shopping done and then get all dolled up for the symphony - of which we had not realized was actually located in the same exact building as the Health Fair which we were scheduled to stop by and pick up our race packets and bibs for Sunday mornings ride.
Rather than back track and go backsy forthy I figured it was time better spent to just head to the health fair dressed for the symphony!
Sure we were a bit over dressed to pick up race packets, but it's always better to be over dressed than underdressed is what I say.
Earlier in the week I had searched and searched for what there might be to eat around the Long Beach Convention Center. I had sushi on my mind and wasn't really settling on anything else that was crossing my path.
I had finally gave in and decided that we'd head over to Veggie Grill for dinner. And as much as I enjoy Veggie Grill every now and again - I simply wasn't in the mood for it. I WAS IN THE MOOD FOR SUSHI!
Lo and behold I had finally found a nearby sushi place (39 Degrees) with plenty of Vegetarian/Vegan options. YES!
Next up and with perfect timing (if I might add) was getting back over to the theatre to see the symphony.
It was the inaugural show for the 2017-2018 season with Eckart Preu conducting.
Alexander Zemlinsky - Die Seejungfrau (The Mermaid Fantasy for Orchestra) (1903)
Johannes Brahms - Concerto for Violen and Cello, op 102, A minor, Double Concerto (1887)
Johann Strauss II - On the Beautiful Blue Danube, op. 314 (1866)
My favorite was Die Seejungfrau. It was just so capturing!
After the performance we made a beeline home and to get some rest - we had a 4am wake up call for the Marathon in the morning.
