L'ybane: Lebanese-Mediterranean in NYC Theatre District

4/10/2015

Whenever I go to the theatre - which is quite often - one of the highlights is the meal that precedes the show.  I'm always on the look-out for new restaurants in and around the theatre district in New York City.
Of course, there are also the tried and true favorites that I enjoy returning to time and again.

One of these regulars is L'ybane on 8th Avenue between 44th and 45th Street.  I found this eclectic, dimly lit mediterranean eatery about a year ago and just returned again a few weeks ago prior to seeing Kinky Boots.

The menu is made up primarily of small plates (and lots of them!) that are just perfect to share with a companion.  My partner in entertainment crime was my sister Danielle.  We share similar tastes in food and both have a strong affinity for mediterranean fare.

What I love about L'ybane is the fact that you an order lots and lots of little plates creating a varied meal of different flavors and foods. We opted for the Chef's Signature assortment of Mediteranean Small Plates, and settled on "Le Mini" which consists of 5 different plates.  It didn't take us long to settle on five delectable choices:  Moussaka Vegetarian, Grilled Peppers, Falafel, Hummus and Tzatziki.

We were served a plate of soft, fluffy, warm pita breads to eat with our assortment of tasty delights!

The menu at L'ybane is filled with a variety of other options ranging from soups, cheese plates, and a variety of hors d'oeuvres - most average at about $10. A variety of creative salads for both meat and seafood eaters and vegetarians alike. Being mediterranean, the menu has pasta dishes as well as beef, chicken and seafood entrees as well.

L'ybane also has a Mussel bar for this who love these seafood shellfish.

Danielle and I decided to share an entree of Chicken Paillard, a lightly pounded and flattened grilled breast of chicken topped with mix greens.

The flavors and spices had the perfect blend in our "Le Mini" assortment and it was more than enough to fill us up quite a bit, but we enthusiastically dug into the chicken!

But, it didn't fill us up too much, as we ordered dessert - a scrumptious Almond Tart.  It was light and delicious and fresh!!

Pricing wise, L'ybane is very reasonable.  A definite must-try!
