Incredible Crepes at Cafe Mambo, Westhampton Beach

This summer, when my friend Lisa told me about a new place in town, called Cafe Mambo, I never thought it would become one of my favorite local restaurants.  From the first time we ate here, it was love at first bite.

The eatery itself is quite small, located right off Main Street, on Moniebogue Lane, right up the block from the Westhampton Theatre. Considerably narrow as you enter, a huge wrap around counter encompasses the cooking and prep area, with a large wall, lined with the food offerings. Both the front and back door exteriors have a mock screen made of hanging blue chains, setting the tone for the relaxed and laid back atmosphere inside.

The decor is informal and simple, with soft blue tones throughout with a surf shack feel. Simple Hawaiian prints fill the wall space throughout, except for one wall which is comprised of customer renderings adhered to string by clothespins, under the heading "Best Picture of the Week Wins a Sweet Crepe."  The air is filled with smooth '40's throwback tunes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and other jazz standards of that era for a by-gone era mood.

Ok, so let's talk food!  The menu is relatively small, with a nice selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as a selection of coffee beverages. But the star of this little eatery is their crepes!  A full menu of both savory and sweet crepes, these pancake delights are perfect for a meal or a dessert.

For a mother-daughter dinner a few weeks ago, it was a unanimous decision for both Giannna and I where we wanted to eat.  Not being able to decide between the sweet and the savory, we decided to get both!  I ordered the "Classic" Sweet Crepe with Chocolate, Strawberries and Whipped Cream.  Gianna went for the "Oreo Crunch" with Oreos and Chocolate and Whipped Cream. We also decided to get a savory crepe as well - Eggs & Veggies.  There was no question that we were going to be eating the sweet crepes first!!

The seating is limited inside the restaurant with only one large picnic style table.  However, through the back door, there is a lovely outdoor patio with numerous tables, many with umbrellas making it perfect for rain or shine.   Gianna and I made our way outside to chow down our array of crepes.  The pancakes themselves are the perfect consistency and the fillings are fresh and tasty, stuffed with the right quantity.

ALL GONE!
What could be better than chocolate and strawberries - warm and oozing - combined with the whipped cream for a cool, creamy contrast.  Gianna and I didn't say much more than "mmm" and "ahhh" as we savored every bite.  After a brief break, we moved on to our Eggs & Veggie crepe.  One might think that a savory taste might be a bit anti-climatic after indulging on a sweet treat, but, that wasn't the case.  We managed to polish this one off with just as much ease.

In addition to Westhampton Beach, there is also another location in Maui, Hawaii, which is the original Cafe Mambo as well as Mambo Kitchen right on Main Street in Westhampton Beach, which has an array of sandwiches, salads and great breakfasts.

My goal is to try every sweet crepe on the menu!
Happy Eating!
