Although it was already part of the Arizona/New Mexico Road Trip itinerary; I still consider Lovin' Spoonfuls in Tucson, Arizona to be a very happy surprise!
Coming from White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, and having already spent 12 days on the road, we had rolled into this desert town on Sunday evening.
The plan was to have Dinner at this Lovely Plant Based Cafe.
Let it be known, that this was one of the eateries that I had researched ahead of time, and one that I remember having a mega menu that offered several delectable sounding meal options!
Well one little piece of information that didn't happen to stick with me was that they close at 3pm on Sundays. Major Bummer!
The good thing is that with them having such an impressive menu I had it in our plans to go there twice!
Once for dinner, and then again on Monday morning for breakfast!
I even had it in my plans for us to order lunch to-go (for the road)... Whew! Good thinking, Tanya! ;)
After checking out of our hotel, driving to, hiking, and touring Saguaro National Park in the early morning hours, we had drove back into town to finally step foot into this popular little breakfast spot - and one with killer tofu scrambles! And so many to choose from.
A tofu scramble is definitely not something that we (the kids and I) normally order when dining out.
Why?
Because I will throw together a Tofu Scramble at home quite often enough, and it is generally a pretty easy thing to come by on other vegan friendly menus. But there was just something different about the sound of these scrambles. Something very enticing about them. Enticing enough that 3 out of 4 of us ordered one!
In addition, all three of my roadies ordered smoothies to sip at while we waiting for our meal to be delivered, and Cosette decided to go against the grain and order a very Big and yummy Breakfast Burrito. Most of the Breakfast plates were served with whole wheat toast, and some DANG good home fries! I sure am glad that mine was one of them, because...Wow, were they good! |
We were all already looking forward to our lunch on the road!
But before heading out, this crew had their eyes on and was most interested in the amazing looking dessert case!
Ordering 3 big 'ol cupcakes treats to take with us for drive back to Southern California!
(That were literally gone in no time!)
I've gotta say, that while I never had a Fried Ravioli before becoming a vegan, I was super happy to indulge on these tasty morsels!
Why don't other vegan restaurants offer this??? I would sooo be all over it on every menu I found it on! Way to go Lovin' Spoonfuls for being a forerunner on this one!
And while I didn't necessarily have coming back to Tuscon on mind, I can definitely say that after eating here that I am looking for a reason to come back! If it comes down to ordering those Fried Raviolis might be reason enough!
