China is one of the largest countries in the world. It offers cultural diversity with a booming economic sector that produces a variety of products for use across the globe. Once you get adjusted to the various cultures and overcome the language barrier you can explore the best cities to visit in China – each offers something special.
As a tour guide in China, I have had the pleasure of traveling to almost every city within China and learned a lot about each one along the way. In this article I will be sharing the top 5 best cities to visit in China.

Beijing
​
This metropolitan city is China’s capital city. The Tiananmen Square is a must visit if you want to interact with the locals. You also get to learn about China’s culture through various museums and palaces that adorn the city including Forbidden City. Make sure you sample out the street food. Your trip can never be complete without a trip to the Great Wall Of China. Biking is the best way to travel in China and within the city of Beijing, especially the hutongs – narrow alleys.

Shanghai
​
While Beijing is the administrative capital, Shanghai is the largest city in China. The skyscrapers that saturate the city can be intimidating, and you will require the help of a China tour guide to find your way around the city. The city lies along the Huangpu riverbank. You can experience the old Shanghai town by visiting the old town. Colonial-era buildings called the “bund” give you a glimpse of how Shanghai used to be ruled before the era of globalization.

​Hong Kong Hong Kong reverted to China after years of British rule. The mountainous landscape makes its one of China tourist attractions. The city lies on the Victoria bay, and you will find glistering skyscrapers in the background. The city offers a diverse culture of British and Asian residents. The best vintage point to absorb the city is at Victoria Peak. If you love take nature walks make sure you visit the neighboring Lantau Island.

Guangzhou
​
 The city hosts various historical sites having been in existence for thousands of years. The Best time to visit China city of Guangzhou is during autumn – runs from October to mid-December. The town size makes the town appear chaotic, but this is the right time to learn about the local cultures. Make it your goal to visit the Liu Rong temple and the Huaisheng mosque. There various local cuisines to sample in the streets and the night boat rides illuminate the various skyscrapers in the city. The Canton Tower is one of the main attractions and a must visit for many.

Suzhou 
This is one of the best cities to visit in China due to its proximity to Shanghai. You can navigate the city in boats through the various river canals. While traveling, you can absorb the buildings adorned with garden pots. The footbridges are a favorite for lovebirds. The city has a long history of silk production and at one time was one of China’s most traded cities. Ensure that you make a stop to the Humble Administrator Garden.

China has made remarkable changes over the years. The cities have become metropolitan hosting people from across the globe. Some of the cities still have relics of the past and are a must visit. You can learn more about the cities through a variety of museums. The best way to travel in China is through tour vans as these offers more sightseeing opportunities.
