Bad Hair Days in Baltimore

11/2/2016

Let's talk about the summer of 2012 - do you remember how ridiculously HOT it was on the East Coast?
HOT - MUGGY - HUMID...GROSS

Well if you've been "blessed" with frizzy kinky hair such as my own (which has definitely tamed over the years), then you'd understand. The weather I've mentioned is NOT good hair weather whatsoever!!!

However as bad as I once use to be with doing my hair, I've become quite decent at using a straight iron and taming the BEAST!

Now, on with my story...
It all started up at a retreat not too far from Couer D'Alene, Idaho. Well it actually started in Vancouver, but I'm not taking you that far back - in fact for some of that story you can read -

Problems at the Border...

This story will start at the end of our stay in Idaho.

This segment of the trip was spent with the International Peace Choir. Luckily for us they traveled via bus from SoCal and that is how they were heading back...so needless to say they had some room on board for our "extras" such as the kids costumes and the like.

As far as the kids and I, we were heading to Seattle, and then onward to NYC, NH, VA, DC, and Baltimore.

After unpacking in Seattle I had noticed that I couldn't locate my hair straightener. I racked my mind as to where I might have left it. I had called friends on the bus and questioned if anyone had picked it up. I was doomed for several BAD hair days without it.

As the days past and my hair got more and more unruly, I opted to keep it tied back in a ponytail, pigtails or hidden under a hat.

Fast forwarding to weeks later, and all of the day by day dealing with the miserable HOT weather on the East Coast. Lucky for me Dave, he had picked up the luggage that was sent down to SoCal and he found my hair straightener packed in with the kids costumes.

And then he made his way out east. Now I'm not sure what was I thinking putting the straightener in those bags, but I was sure glad to (see him) and to have it back!

However I didn't quite give myself enough time (I really pack in the days) to do my hair on the morning he arrived.

It was a rather packed in busy day filled with touring DC, visiting to the White House, touring Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and even the childhood home of Babe Ruth!     All before it was time to go to catch an Orioles game at Camden Yards.

By game time we were all nice and sticky icky from the layers of sweat. God only knows what my hair looked like under the hat.

The game had begun and we were all having a lovely time. The next thing I remember is a pop-foul heading directly for us.
We had no glove to catch it with and my dear sweet little Cosette's quick thinking decided that the next best thing was to catch the ball in my hat as she yanked it off of my head.

Therefore exposing my beastly hair to the world!

I stood there in shock and embarrassment (for what seemed like a lifetime), quickly snagging my hat right back from the hands of my 10 year old daughter.
Someone else had caught the ball and I wasted no time in hiding under the protection of my baseball cap once again.

I may not remember who won the game that night, but I'll never forget that really bad hair day!

After that, I made sure to "do" my hair first thing in the morning.

Here's to no more bad hair days (which of course isn't gonna happen)!
