When in Wengen - small town Switzerland

Who's even heard of this place? Wengen (pronounced Vengen), is a village in the Bernese Oberland. 
The holiday resort lies on a wind-protected sun terrace at the foot of the Jungfrau, 400 metres above the Lauterbrunnen valley at an altitude of 1274 m. And it is just magnificent! 

I took the kids to this tradition-imbued, car-free holiday resort in May of 2012, and we were just delighted! The resort also offers a family-friendly ski and rambling area around the Männlichen and the Kleine Scheidegg, accessible via train.

While I had never heard of Wengen before, Dave had mentioned it to me in passing and I then read about it in my handy dandy Travel Guide, and continued to further research it online. 
Wengen is a famous Swiss holiday resort that is right in the heart of the Alps.

With its nostalgic timber houses, the many dispersed holiday chalets and hotels dating from the belle époque period, this Bernese Oberland holiday resort has retained all the character of a picture-postcard mountain village. 
It is also one of very few car-free resort villages in Europe; keeping in mind that there are a few service vehicles, local farm vehicles, and electric vehicles for taxiing to and from the railway station.

Falling in love with this quaint little town was super easy for me, but what about the kids? Well, we all had just a magical time and it turned out to really had a huge blast! 
We strolled the neighborhoods and played with the adorable lambs nearby. We played on at the playgrounds, and just attempted to get a real feel for life on this hillside village. We really loved it!

And the real shocker of how much this little town was adored wasn't until after we returned home and my little girl couldn't stop talking about this very wonderful place! She tried her darndest to work out any possible scenario to have us move there... Summer home anyone? 
We'll gladly go back one day and if you ever have the chance to go, I highly recommend that you take it!
