According to David Lefkowitz, who is co-publisher of Performing Arts Insider, there are more than a dozen venues with prime shows, right here on Long Island for your theatre going pleasure. A short list of these include Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream at the Vanderbilt Theatre (Centerport), Broadway Musicals including Kiss Me Kate and Singing in the Rain at the CM Performing Arts Center (Oakdale) as well as popular dramas such as The Elephant Man at the Broad Hollow Theatre Company (3 locations - East Islip, Elmont and Lindenhurst). For the kids, who might need a change of pace from the pool and the beach this summer, there are a number of fun alternatives. The Gateway Playhouse, with two locations, one in Bellport and another in Patchogue is featuring Mary Poppins this month. Other children's classics like Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio will be featured at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson. If you prefer live comedic performances, Robert Klein and singer/humorist Jordan Bennet are on the line-up this summer at The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center.
