This engaging little cabaret-like production was brought to my attention by my Aunt Ro, a life-long resident of Astoria, Queens. At $10 a ticket, how could I not attend and make it a night out?!
I had done some research about this comedy team, MEL & EL, whose real names are Melanie Kinard and Ellie Dunn - real life BFFs who have known each other since they were kids. According to their website, they are described as a "musical Amy Poehler and Tina Fey."
While they are in cinq and work together like a well oiled machine similar to the above mentioned veteran comediennes, playing off each other and never missing a beat, I found them much more relatable to the average mom and for that reason, I predict, they will become a household name in the not to distant future.
Just a simple stage, two average, stylishly dressed, attractive women and an an accompanying musician, The Mommy Show draws you right into the world of "Parenting." Whether you are a parent - mom or dad; a child of a parent; or simply observe the art of parenting around you - the experience is uplifting.

These two artists also tackle other relevant topics including marriage, and I could not stop laughing during their performance of "My Man is Just the Right Amount of Gay."
What I found most appealing about these two talented ladies was that in addition to being moms, which if you didn't know how all-encompassing and challenging this job is, Mel & El break it down for audience through song, audience interaction and even dance - (you go El, great moves1) - they have launched a successful web series which won Best Web Series at The Las Vegas Film Festival.

I was lucky enough to get up close and personal with Mel and El after the show and shoot the breeze! Thanks Ladies for a fun night out from the routine of motherhood!
