11 Memorable Mother-Daughter Bonding Experiences at Disney World

8/12/2020

From Afternoon Tea to Mani-Pedi's to Balloon Rides!

As someone who has taken numerous mother daughter Walt Disney world trips throughout the past decade, I can attest to the countless memories we have created in a way only a mom and her female children can! Whether a specially planned mother-daughter trip or simply some designated girl time away on a family trip, Disney World parks and resort properties are home to some very unexpected and unique experiences for moms and daughters to create  memories to last a lifetime.

Here are 11 ways to celebrate and share this very special parent-child relationship together in the happiest place on earth:

1. Afternoon Tea at Garden View Tea Room - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Elegant, delectable and  downright delightful, the timeless British tradition of Afternoon Tea is there for partaking. One of mine and my girls’ favorite ways to bond has become a favorite pastime for me and my two daughters, afternoon tea at Disney Grand Floridian has become a staple on our frequent Disney World trips.

Thank goodness for us and all the moms and daughters headed for Disney world, there is a super delightful tea service, served up Disney style at The Grand Floridian. Moms and daughters can indulge in three tiers of assorted finger sandwiches and baked goods with a steaming pot of the tea of their choosing. The elegant surroundings and ambience of the Garden View Tea Room add to this refined English experience.

If you have a young "princess" then be sure to share the Garden View's Disney's Perfectly Princess Tea. This royal experience is filled with
with music, dancing, storytelling and more as "Rose Petal," a magical rose from Aurora's garden, has come alive to host the party, leading a special princess parade, storytelling and sing-alongs. And best of all, Princess Aurora makes an appearance, so make sure your little one is dressed as their favorite Disney Princess, which is highly encouraged for the event!

2. Sunrise Yoga - Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Just because you are on vacation in a place where the fun never stops does not mean you cannot indulge in a bit of mindful practice to start your day. At Disney Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, an early morning Sunrise Yoga class is offered on Monday and Wednesdays at 7:00AM. This revitalizing gentle class is on our list to do for our next Disney trip as a way of refocusing our minds and revitalizing our bodies before heading off to start our day. All ages are welcome as well as all fitness levels, so this could be a great way to introduce yoga to your young daughter(s). Mats and towels are provided on-site, which means there is nothing you need to bring except the two of you and an open mind and heart!

3. Pampering Day - Disney's Saratoga Springs & Spa /Grand Floridian Resort & Spa/Other Disney Resorts

If you ask me, the ultimate in mom-daughter bonding is getting pampered together! Depending on your little lady's age, the two of you can treat yourselves like princesses and enjoy one of many spa services offered at a few of the Disney World properties. From massages to facials and other body therapies, a girls' day can prove relaxing and regenerating. Disney's Saratoga Springs has a very special "Sweet Treats Manicure and Pedicure" for princesses in training!  Other Disney Character Couture Packages are available at select salon locations within Walt Disney World Resort as well.

4. An Exhilarating Safari Adventure - Animal Kingdom

If you and your little lady are adventure buffs, you will surely love the idea of going on a 3-hour Wild Africa Trek in none other than Disney's Animal Kingdom. This privately priced tour takes guests for a ride in a rugged safari vehicle over Disney's open savanna with a chance to discover a variety of African animals such as giraffes, rhinos, hippos and crocodiles. You and your girl will get to journey along a grassland path and over a rope bridge all while learning about the park's dedication to animal conservation. You will also receive a complimentary souvenir with which to remember your safari together!

5. Splitsville Luxury Lanes - Disney Springs

A super fun way to hang out for some mom-daughter bonding is with an evening of bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes in Disney Springs. Me and my two girls went for the very first time on our last Disney trip. You will love this huge bowling alley which has 2 floors, 30 lanes and 5 bars. When you are done, why not try your hand at a game of pool. And you can indulge in some appetizing snacks to energize your game or head out to the indoor/outdoor patio for some fresh sushi.

6. Go on a Canoe Ride - Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground

How about a bit of the great outdoors right in the middle of Disney World!! That's right, you can get out on the peaceful waters of the Fort Wilderness Resort for a bit of canoeing. I wasn't even aware of this activity till very recently and my little female trio has decided that this is a must-try during our next trip. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis to guest 11 and up at The Bike Barn at Meadow Recreation Area from 9am to 5pm daily. The cost is very reasonable at $13.00 per hour with a maximum capacity of 3 people per canoe.

3 Steps to Creating Your Disney World Trip Itinerary

8/5/2020

Predictable and Definitive Planning For a Happier Disney Trip

With the post Covid-19 rules and crowd restrictions being what they are at Disney World these days, a less jam-packed itinerary may prove more enjoyable. Taking control of where you will be and what you will do, rather than leaving things up to chance will cut down on the unexpected and disappointment for the people in your travel group.

Here are 3 simple steps to creating a trip itinerary to the most magical place on earth for a memorable time!

Picture
(c) travelincousins.com
1. Schedule Specific Days for Each Disney Park

This is something me and my gang have always done. In fact, Kelsey, our family Disney expert, creates an Excel sheet for each day with specifics on where we are going, the times of our fast passes and dining reservations and any attractions we will be enjoying. It has worked out for us each time!

These days, after reopening after the Covid-19 pandemic and quarantine, Disney World now requires park reservations for park entrance in order to manage park attendance, which is done via the Disney Park Pass reservation system.  As a result, designating specific days for each park is not only helpful to a well-planned trip, but it is also now mandatory to adhere to the new rules. Although this does not leave room for spontaneity, it certainly insures you will know exactly where you should be on any given day of your trip.

Further, since "Park Hopping" is currently prohibited under Disney's new rules, and it is no longer possible to visit more than one park per day, scheduling a well planned day at a specific park is the best way to handle your itinerary.

Where to go each day is a very personal decision and based on the interest of your traveling party. Some folks like to stick strictly with the Magic Kingdom, while others mix it up with a different park each day. Our group usually goes anywhere from 4 days to 7 days. For week-long trips, we go to each of the four parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios) and leave the remaining days for Disney Springs and visits to other Disney resorts for special dining experiences.

Our Suggestion: Make a column for each day of your trip. Headline each column with where you will be and then you are ready to fill in the rest of your itinerary. My gang always likes to spend our first full day in the park in Magic Kingdom. However, if we happen to arrive mid-day and cannot get a morning start and maximize our daily park ticket, we usually opt to head on over to Disney Springs (no ticket or reservation required) to walk around the shops and enjoy one (or two!) of the many eateries.
Picture

2. Plan and Book Your Dining Reservations

Now that you know WHERE you'll be on any given day, have fun browsing through the plethora of dining options in each park. Whether you prefer quick service or table service dining, it's a good idea to pre-plan which place you wold like to try. The reason we pre-plan our dining is not only to make any necessary dining reservations, but, for the fun of trying different eateries. From our experience, had we not done pre-trip research into the various options available at each park, we surely would have missed out on some wonderful meals! This method is also helpful if you are dealing with any dietary restrictions in your party or if you have picky eaters in that you can view the full menus beforehand. Reservations can be made online and new dining rules are in effect throughout Disney World.

Our Suggestion: Go to the Disney Dining site, which lists all Disney Park restaurants. You can narrow your options by specific park and even by resort, should you be interested in trying one of the Disney resort restaurants' Character Dining or other dining experiences. You will be amazed when looking at the options in this fashion, just how many choices you have and how many you might not have even noticed in person if you hadn't visited the site first! Take the time to read through the menus and see what options they have for those with dietary restrictions such as vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free and any food allergies. Even if you plan to get quick service, it's a good idea to set an approximate time for when you will eat, so it's on the itinerary. Now you can add all dining reservations and plan under the appropriate park column of your itinerary and call to make the necessary reservations!

Picture
3. Select Attractions and Book Fast Passes

When it comes to theme parks or amusement parks, not all rides suit all people. Of course there is something to be said about hitting every single attraction, but, if you are traveling with kids or mature loved ones, this may not be the most practical approach. We have found that creating a list of your top 10 attractions for each park in order of priority is the best way to insure a good time for all. Your top 3 will be those for which you book fast passes. According to the Disney World website there are total of 173 rides and attractions throughout the parks and resorts of Disney World with 41 in Magic Kingdom, 39 in Epcot, 17 in Hollywood Studios and a whopping 49 in Animal Kingdom! Narrowing things down to your top 10 for each park may seem like a small amount, but trust me, it's not when taking into consideration, lines, walking time throughout each respective park and food breaks.

To save time waiting in line, you can secure a FastPass. Disney FastPass+ service allows you to reserve access to select Walt Disney World theme park attractions, entertainment and Character Greetings in advance. You can begin making your FastPass+ selections at 7:00 AM Eastern Time up to 30 days in advance of your visit. However, at this time, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the FastPass+ service is suspended in order for the parks to control capacity and maintain physical distancing.

Our Suggestion: Take a little time togteher with your family and/or fellow Disney travelers to visit the official Disney Attractions site for each of the theme parks to see which ones make your top 10 list. This little pre-trip exercise really gets you in the mood for experiencing the real thing in person! Then add the rides and attractions onto your ever-growing trip itinerary under the appropriate columns. We usually slug in our choices by in-park location in order to save time. You might consider doing the same so you are not running back and forth from one are to another and wasting precious time.

At this point, you should have a pretty full list of things to do and places to be for each day of your trip on your newly created itinerary. We thought we would give you one of our previously created 3-day itineraries for your reference:

Disney's Boardwalk Inn and Villas - 22 Reasons To Book Your Stay

7/29/2020

With the choice of so many Disney World properties to book when visiting the most magical place on earth, Disney's Boardwalk Inn and Villas gets our vote for your next stay.

From its Atlantic coast boardwalk theme to the many food and entertainment options and its proximity within the Epcot resort area, the Boardwalk Inn is hands down my gang's favorite on-site property. But, we are not going to leave it there - here are 22 reasons why this resort should be at the top of your list when booking your next stay.

Picture
The Promenade at Disney's Boardwalk Inn and Villas lit up at night (c) travelincousins.com

1. Charming turn-of-the-century theme
The Boardwalk Inn is impeccably designed in a style reminiscent of east coast towns like Coney Island, Atlantic City and Cape May. Its exquisite  construction and charming decor takes guests back in time to the turn of the 20th-century with its themed promenade and architecture.

2. Quarter-mile Boardwalk Promenade

The quarter-mile promenade is a delight. Surrounded by water, the Boardwalk Inn promenade consists of dine-in and boardwalk food kiosks with coastal city favorites like hot dogs, giant pretzels. The outdoor bench seating facing the water adds a coastal town feel, which we love.

3. Beautiful atmosphere day and night
Whether strolling the wooden promenade in the light of day looking out over the water or enjoying the fun and festive pier with its strung lights, and outdoor eateries, this property's youthful atmosphere is captivating.

4.
Waterfront View
I believe that a waterfront view says it all. Set along Crescent Lake, the boardwalk is surrounded by water with lovely views of the Yacht and Beach Club.
Picture

5. Walking Distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios
Your feet can do the walking to either Epcot or Hollywood Studios which means no need to take Disney bus service and no need to wait for it in either direction.

6. Friendship Boat to Epcot and Hollywood Studios
Whether heading to the park or returning back, the Friendship Boat is a super fun and scenic way to travel. Conveniently located at the pier on the Boardwalk promenade, this breezy water mode of transportation offers guests rides to and from Epcot and Hollywood Studios as well as to the Yacht and Beach Club Resort, Swan and Dolphin.

7. Atlantic Dance Hall on the Boardwalk
If you are looking for some night action close to "home," this adult-only nightclub and dance club features music from the ‘80s, ‘90s and today.

8. Surrey Bikes
The Surrey bike rentals allow you and your gang to step back in time. Just like in old Atlantic City, you can take in the sites along the promenade as you leisurely ride by.

9.
Boardwalk Bakery
Definitely one of my gang’s favorite places for a grab and go snack or quick service meal any time of day. Amazing bistro style sandwiches and salads, muffins and baked goods as well as all kinds of beverages. We usually hit the bakery on our way to the park as we start our day or for an evening bit while hanging out on the promenade.

10. ESPN Club
If your group is still energetic after a day at the parks, this club is open to teens and adults and features live radio sports shows and interviews with celebrity athletes.
Picture

11. Jelly Rolls
The Boardwalk Inn is home to a terribly cool and upbeat, lively piano bar for the over-21 crowd with dueling pianos and audience sing-alongs.

12. Funnel Cake Cart
Reminiscent of days gone by, the Boardwalk’s Funnel Cake Cart is more like a funnel cake dessert bar! Whether you prefer to sprinkle sugar, drizzle chocolate syrup or pair with ice cream, these fresh ‘n’ hot funnel cakes are well worth the indulgence.

13. Pizza Window
We just love the pizza window! Serving piping-hot pizza by the slice or by the pie, as well as beer, sangria and soft drinks, it’s a treat for kids of all ages!

Picture

14. Outdoor Movies on the Lawn
Imagine watching a movie under the stars just like they used to do at seaside towns. During one of our stays we enjoyed Disney’s Frozen. It’s a festive way to wind down from a busy day of rides and attractions.

15. Choice of Various Accommodations
Flanked between a hotel lobby, one side of the Boardwalk Inn has inn-style rooms, while the other features villa-style accommodations for guests. Garden View outer room inn accommodations are just adorable, each with their own lush garden decorated with colorful flowers and just right for romantic stays for couples and honeymooners.

My group always opts for the villa-style accommodations since they are a bit more roomy and offer separate bedrooms, which serves us well and is a great feature for families. We also love the convenience that the villas offer with in-room kitchenette for studios and full kitchen and in-room washer-dryer in one bedroom villas and larger.

16. On-Site Spa and Fitness Center
Muscles & Bustles Health Club, has state of the art treadmills, bicycles and ellipticals available to guests during their stay. Now that my girls are both old enough, we love to make a few visits to work off some of the yummy Disney food during our stay.

Picture

17. Boardwalk “Street Entertainers”
Just like the boardwalks of Cape May, New Jersey and Coney Island, Brooklyn, there are carnival-style street performers along the promenade. From Thursday to Saturday evenings, you can take in the talents of jugglers, balancing act performers and street musicians under the stars. If you are inclined, get your portrait done by the on-site caricature artist.

18. Unique Decorative Points of Interest
Throughout the lobby, there are quaint miniature, glass-enclosed replicas of rollercoasters and carousels reminiscent of the elements that made up the actual Atlantic coast boardwalk towns of the early 20th century. You can even spy the reproduction “Nanny Chairs” that were used in the late 1800’s for nannies to sit in while the children rode the carousel. Trivia - nanny chairs were used since carousels did not have the bench style seats that are found on them today.

19. Three Pools to Enjoy
If you and your group enjoy romping in the pool, you’ll be happy to know there are two leisure pools and one themed pool. The themed Luna Park Pool is designed with a “carousel-style” pool bar.

Picture
Beautiful View at night of The Boardwalk Promenade (c) travelincousins.com

20. Quaint Belle Vue Lounge
When you are looking for a quiet place to sit and relax, you must visit the quaint 1930’s-style Belle Vue Lounge. Although it is just a sitting room, it is designed to take guests back in time with comfy chairs and radios playing programs from the era. Enjoy coffee and pastries in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. There are also board games available to guests.

21. Lots of Outdoor Green Spaces
The Boardwalk Inn is designed with lots of outdoor spaces. So whether you are in the mood to walk about or hang loose under a tree on one of the many benches, you have your choice. This feature makes this property great for kids to run about and play.

22. Character Dining at Trattoria Al Forno
This Italian restaurant offers a delicious “Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast with a chance to meet Disney’s Princess Ariel and Prince Eric and Princess Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. You'll find it a bit quieter and more intimate than some of the park character breakfasts, which we love.

5 Important Items to Pack for Disney World for Coronavirus Safety

7/22/2020

Picture
(c) travelincousins.com
With so many changes in the rules and regulations at the Walt Disney World theme park, you may want to add a few items to your packing list for your next trip to the most magical place on earth!

There’s no question that the “new normal” at the theme park, at least for the foreseeable future, is going to take a bit of getting used to. Fortunately, new necessities that every Disney guest should bring will not weigh heavy in your suitcase or your park carry bag.

Picture
1. Facial Covering/Masks

This is, of course, the obvious must bring to Disney World since the theme park contains both indoor and outdoor spaces with large groups of people. However, I’m here to tell you that not all masks are created equal. Design versus functionality is key when packing your face covering.

Disney is a place to have fun and as such, why not embrace your inner fashionista by bringing along masks that reflect your own personal style. With every retail outlet and brand jumping on the bandwagon with fun and fresh masks, the choices are quite vast. Disney themselves has come up with their own proprietarily Disney-designed masks available online for purchase.

Depending on the length of your stay, I would absolutely recommend bringing along numerous masks for every member in your party. Considering that Disney requires constant face covering everywhere in the parks, except while eating in designated areas, your mask will probably be quite used by the end of each day.

In fact, WDW just updated their mask rules after a week of being open. According to an article in
CNN Travel “The update to the policy reads: "You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing."”

Then there are also the other unexpected contingencies like masks getting wet or accidentally dropping It on the floor.  You’ll want to be prepared with replacements each day in the park and for the duration of your trip

Construction is another consideration. Be sure that the material of your mask(s) best fits your park plans and the weather for each day. Cotton fabric masks are great and more aesthetically pleasing, but can be rather hot for those days with higher temps. Pack a variety of fabric masks so you can choose which is best and switch off accordingly.

Picture

2. Thermometer

Just like many other public venues, Walt Disney World is conducting temperature checks on all guests arriving at the parks. If anyone in your party has a temperature above 100.4 then all party members will be denied access to the park. It really behooves anyone traveling to WDW to self check temperatures prior to setting off for a day of fun. The last thing any Disney guest wants (especially the kiddies) is to be disappointed after traversing to a particular park and being told they cannot enter.

Picture

3. Hand Sanitizer

Folks have been carrying hand sanitizer with them for a while but now more than ever with the covid-19 pandemic.  Be sure to pack enough to have on hand (no pun intended!). Of course WDW has installed hand sanitizer and washing stations, but, it’s always better to have a small stash of your own for your group.

Picture
(Werneuchen/commons.wikimedia.org)
4. Disposable gloves

This is one of those items that is a “better safe than sorry” one to bring. If you have older individuals in your party or like to take extra precautions when going on rides, attractions or when using the rest rooms, be sure to throw a small  box in your suitcase so you have plenty for your stay.

Picture
5. Portable cell phone charger

We all like to stay connected but these days our cell phones are a greater necessity when visiting WDW. You want to be able to have access to things like the My Disney Experience app for park maps, dining reservations, fast pass schedules, making bookings and more. There are many inexpensive portable chargers, a number of which start at just $20. Amazon listed its top sellers as these are growing in popularity as public charging stations are not always accessible.

Till next time,

Know Before You Go - New Rules and Regulations at Walt Disney World to Safeguard Against Coronavirus

7/15/2020

Picture
Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World (c) travelincousins.com
Slowly but surely, Orlando's Disney World is opening back up. Last week, both Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom reopened after four months of closure due to the coronavirus and today Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios parks will reopen as well.  Exciting news for Disney World lovers!

However, like most places these days, visiting Disney World will also become an entirely new experience for visitors with new rules and restrictions to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.  now that. Here's what to expect when visiting the "most magical place on earth" during 2020 and 2021, so take note!

Picture
Epcot's Future World (c) travelincousins.com

Park Reservations Required

Never before in the history of  the world’s largest theme park operator has there been a requirement to have reservations for entry. In fact, most guests, like myself, loved the fact that visiting the various Disney World parks could be a very impromptu and spontaneous decision. This is no longer the case, at least through September of 2021. According to Bloomberg.com, "Guests have to make reservations to enter the parks, a first for Disney, but a move that allows the company to control capacity and keep visitors more socially distant on rides and other attractions. Bookings are being accepted through September of next year."

Mandatory Face Masks

Not to beat a dead horse with the obvious, but like other public places, Disney World requires all guests to wear facial coverings. Not the most comfortable way to make your way around a theme park, but certainly a safe one and a rule that will be enforced. The good news is that in today's safety climate, masks are becoming a bit of fashion statement, and forward-thinking Disney has gotten on the bandwagon with a plethora of fun and fashionable Disney-themed mask options with which to choose.

Limited Capacity and Social Distancing

Disney has set up signage to assist guests navigate their way through the property with ground markings for proper social distancing with tape markings of 6 feet apart in ride/attraction queues.  The number of people allowed in the park at any one given time will be 50% capacity for Phase 1 and then increased to 75% during Phase 2, as noted by Miles to Memories.com. The good news take away is that the wait times for your favorite attractions and rides will also be much shorter.

.
No Park Hopping

Park Hopping and the slightly more expensive "Park Hopper Park Pass" made it possible or guests to "hop" from one Disney Park to another during one day. For the foreseeable future, this feature will not be allowed for Disney visitors. According to ABC-13,  "Visitors will need reservations to enter a park, and they won't be allowed to hop between parks."

Temperature Screening

Many of us are getting used to having our temperature taken as we begin to frequent public places. Disney World is no exception. The company now requires that both visitors and employees receive mandatory temperature checks upon entering the parks. If a guest has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or more, that person will be moved to another location for re-screening to double check the accuracy," states DisneyFoodBlog.com who goes on to say that "those with temperatures above 100.4 degrees will not be allowed entry " Those in their party will also be denied entry, so be sure to check your entire group's temperature before venturing to the parks.

No Character Meet and Greet

Meeting your favorite Disney costume characters is one of the most beloved pastimes for the young and young at heart at Disney World. Nothing says Disney more than a great character photo op. Unfortunately, guests will not be able to greet the costumed Disney characters up close and personal. Instead, the characters are in "cavalcades," or motorcades, as they make their way through the park.

No Fireworks Shows

Two of the most anticipated events at Disney World - parades and fireworks display shows are cancelled at this time. The intention is to avoid large crowds of people grouping together in on location.

Hand-Sanitizer and Hand-Washing Stations

The good news is that in keeping with stringent health and safety regulations, Disney World has installed hand-sanitizing and hand-washing stations throughout all of the parks. Placing these all around will serve as a reminder and encouragement to guests and staff to stay on top of hand cleanliness.

1. Veg Out Vegan Pizza at Blaze Fast Fire'd Pizza (Disney Springs)

This assembly line personalize-your-own-pizza joint is fabulous!  Perfect for lunch or dinner, vegans and non-vegans can create the pizza of their choice.  Vegan cheese is available for those who do not eat dairy and the assortment of toppings is extensive.  The crusts are nice and thin and cooked in a wood fire oven.

My personal favorite is the "Veg-Out" with vegan mozzarella, seasonal veggies, which included Brussell sprouts during my last visit, black olives and green peppers. Guests can garnish their pies with a variety of glazes as well after they emerge piping hot from the oven.

2. Vegan Breakfast at The Garden Grill (EPCOT)

If you are looking for a yummy breakfast that is both filling and satisfying, we strongly recommend that you attend the Chip ‘n’ Dale Harvest Feast at The Garden Grill located in Future World.

Not only do you and your Disney lovers get to enjoy vibrant views of the Living with the Land exhibit in this rotating restaurant and get to enjoy some lovely encounters with Chip, Dale, Pluto and Mickey, but you will tantalize your tastebuds with their all-you-can-eat breakfast!

Perfect for vegans and of course spectacular for non-vegans as well, The Garden Grill has a wonderful all-you-can eat breakfast.  The skillet breakfast for vegans includes an array of sweet and savory offerings served family style. Their signature Rice and Bean Loaf is hearty, flavorful and crispy and is served with ‘potato barrels’ (better known as tater tots), along with Disney’s iconic Mickey vegan waffles and scrambled eggs (for those who eat them).  Fresh fruit rounds out the meal, making it one of our fave places!

3.  Vegan Falafel Burger at Sci-Fi Drive in Theatre (Hollywood Studios)

This place is way cool! First of all, they have recreated an entire "outdoor" setting like the old drive-in theaters. Everything takes place in 1957 and the "tables" are all within the confines of old convertible cars.

What's more, the Sci-Fi Drive in Theatre has two entree choices that are completely vegan. These include Szechuan Lettuce Wraps with Crispy-fried Tofu, Lettuce Cups, Water Chestnuts, Shredded Carrots, Spicy Cucumber, Szechuan Sauce, and Soba Noodle Salad and a Vegetarian Falafel Burger comprised of a Crispy Chick Pea Falafel Patty on a Brioche Bun with Arugula, Gourmet Tomato, Tzatziki Sauce, and Red Pepper Aïoli.

Our vegan crowd opted for the Falafel Burger and boy was it dee-lish!  We particularly liked the side of tomato jam and french fries. But the good vegan eats do not end there. For dessert, they offer a a vegan chocolate milkshake made with soy milk and tofutti!

4.  Wok Fried Green Beans at Yak & Yeti (Animal Kingdom)

Yak & Yeti in Asia in Animal Kingdom has many vegan options from which to chose, making it one of our favorite dining destinations in this park.  I can say with total certainty that our hands-down number one Disney eats vegan appetizers is the restaurant's Wok Fried Green Beans!!

Crispy on the outside, with piping hot green beans on the inside, these batter fried starters are addicting, especially when dipped in the accompanying sweet Thai chili dipping sauce.

5.  Erin McKenna’s of NYC (Disney Springs)

Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC in Disney Springs has got to be the best darn place for vegan and gluten-free baked treats! Every single visit to Disney World includes at least one (but, usually two!) visits to this sweet delight shop.

Everything from cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts and more.

5 Tips for Disney First-Timers

As a HUGE fan and frequent visitor to Walt Disney World in Florida for five decades, it's hard for me to even imagine that there is a "first-time" visit to the most magical place on earth in Orlando for anyone!

Of course, that is a preposterous view on my part.  Folks of all ages visit Disney World each day for the very first time.  Some young, some old, but all of whom are hoping to catch the Disney spirit and see what all the hubbub is about!

Making one's first journey to this 10,524 square mile theme park can be quite overwhelming  with so much to see, do and experience.  As long-time Disney Vacation members, we can assure you that the Disney folks have left no stone unturned when it comes to all aspects of creating a memorable experience with as little stress as possible. However, we are here to lend you a few helpful tips for visiting Disney World like a pro!

1. Download My Disney Experience Mobile App
Picture
(c) travelincousins.com
My Disney Experience is a mobile app for iPhone, tablets and Android smartphones that allows Walt Disney World Resort Guests to plan their vacation and get the most out of their Disney theme park experience.

In a nutshell, this app is a one-stop-shop for every last detail having to do with your trip.  The process can begin as soon as you've booked your trip and have a hotel and ticket reservation, making it possible to set up your own personal profile. From this point, the sky is the limit!

Guests have access to all details pertaining to their reservation and planned activities. Set up a Family & Friends list, link reservations and park tickets to your Disney account, schedule FastPass+ and Dining Experiences,  check into your hotel, check ride and attraction wait times and more.

2. Make Dining Reservations in Advance
Picture

While we are big fans of spontaneity, leaving restaurant dining to chance in Disney World is strongly discouraged.  These days, with the number of guests visiting the theme park and travelers' level of sophistication and desire to plan ahead, you will find yourself very disappointed if you just "show up" to any of the sit down restaurants.

While this approach works just fine for quick service dining, we strongly recommend making meal reservations in advance  Using either the Disney.com website or using My Disney Experience app, reservations are a breeze and can be made up to 180 days in advance.  Just beware, reservations require a credit card to hold your meal reservation as well as cancellation 24-hours prior or you will be charged a fee of $10 per person in your party.

3. Book Disney Attraction and Ride FastPass+in Advance
Picture
Disney FastPass+ service is the electronic/online system for booking rides at Disney World so that you can skip the lines (or wait in substantially shorter lines for your favorite rides.

With the purchase of a ticket or Annual Pass , you can make selections as early as 30 days before you arrive - starting at 7:00 AM Eastern Time if you are NOT staying at a Disney World resort.  If you ARE staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you can make your FastPass+ selections up to 60 days prior to check-in for the entire length of your stay.

We cannot tell you how much "standing in line" time this saves and it is so easy to secure FastPass+. Simply choose your attractions and experiences on My Disney Experience or online from the choice of hour-long blocks of time given. Then all you do is show up at your time.

There are a few rules:
  • Guests are permitted to make three FastPass+ reservations per day for the park being visited..
  • After fulfilling your three FastPass+ reservations in the parks, you can then visit a FastPass+ kiosk to make another reservation.
  • Walt Disney World splits up the available FastPass+ options into tiers based on popularity for all the parks except Magic Kingdom.
  • FastPass selections cannot be made during Early Magic Hours or other special ticketed events like the Halloween/Christmas party/after hours/etc.

4. Take Advantage of Disney's Magical Express
Picture
If you’re visiting Walt Disney World and staying at a Disney owned resort, (which we thoroughly recommend!!), you’ll be able to take advantage of complimentary airport shuttle service, luggage delivery, and airline check-in.

What's so convenient about this service is that all you need to do is check your bags at your
hometown airport and once it arrives at Orlando International Airport, Disney takes care of the rest, retrieving your luggage and delivering it directly to your Disney Resort!  All you need to do is walk to the Magical Express Welcome Center in Terminal B area once you deplane and board the comfortable coach and relax as you are taken directly to your resort.

If you are staying at a Disney Resort, you will receive a package in the mail with your Disney Magical Express luggage tags. Simply attach to your bags at your hometown airport prior to checking and you are all set!!

5. Take Advantage of the Baby Care Centers
Picture

As much fun as Disney World is, it can also be tiring, especially if you are traveling with little ones.  Not to fear, Disney already thought of this and I can tell you from personal experience, their Baby Centers are a wonderful oasis amidst the activity of the park and are a great alternative to heading all the way back to your hotel room if your baby needs changing or a quiet place.

Located within all 4 theme parks, Baby Care Centers provide a convenient place to feed, change and nurse little ones. In addition to offering a quiet refuge, the Baby Care Centers are fully staffed and chock full of amenities for parents with infants and toddlers, including a feeding area with highchairs, kitchen with microwave and sink, a main room with television, table and seating and an on-site shop to purchase necessities such as formula, baby food, juice, diapers, wipes, sunscreen, over-the-counter medications and clothing

They are always open during regular park hours, complimentary to use.
