Jujube Tree Asian Vegan Restaurant in Astoria
Hey there and Happy Hump Day!!
I was so frustrated yesterday because the wifi in my house was TERRIBLE! I would blame it on Mercury Retrograde, but it's been over for a week! In any case, I was unable to get through my blog and upload the photos I had taken during my trio's jaunt to Astoria, Queens on Monday.. Just to recap, we were headed to The Bronx on Monday to try a pizza restaurant, but between the need to unexpectedly come home for a house showing AND the backed up traffic - which would never get me there and back and time to eat to make my RE appointment - possessed me to take a quick turn west to go to Astoria to try a vegan restaurant I have wanted to try for months!! Gianna was thrilled with the decision, but Kelsey, my more "selective" eating child, was rather put out as she was sure she wouldn't find anything to eat. As fate would have it, we found a totally convenient parking spot across the street from our dining destination - Jujube Tree Asian Vegan Cuisine AND there was also a pizza parlor favorite of our's directly adjacent to it! Score for Kelsey (and for me who was not in the mood to hear complaining). Kelsey managed to chow down two rather large slices of pizza, while me and Gianna waited patiently, starving! We headed directly across the street to Jujube Tree and boy were we in for a treat!!
The options were plentiful, the interior was adorable and what we were about to find out is that the food was absolutely delicious!!
We decided to try several of the appetizers, which included Scallion Pancakes, Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings and Fried Wontons. YUM!!!
And each one was served with its own dipping sauce!
Gianna opted for Pad Thai for her main and I ordered Pumpkin Soup.
The noodles and overall flavor of the Pad-Thai was so delectable (damn straight I tried my daughter's dish!!)- the flavors, the texture of the noodles. My Pumpkin Soup had just the right amount of spices and soft chunks of pumpkin, yams and white beans.
Now, what's more, Kelsey tried one of all the appetizers!! She actually enjoyed them, though her absolute favorite was the Scallion Pancakes for which we took an order to go for her to enjoy for dinner!
We didn't stop there - we indulged in dessert as well, for which I'll let the photos speak for themselves. This is a regular on our list of vegan dining spots. I cannot wait to bring Tanya here on her next New York visit! So, have you been following my crazy, Travelin' Cousin. She is totally all over the U.S. map!! I'm loving the pictures she is posting and trying to live vicariously through her adventures this summer! On another note, Gianna and I decided to head to the movies last night to see Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.
It was very entertaining and both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham were adorable!!! It's completely not believable - that is, the death defying feats and how they survive unscathed!
But, so worth seeing for a few hours of fantasy escape! I"m off to do some errands. Enjoy the day!! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
