San Francisco!

So as you know (or if you've just joined us - Welcome! and you'll find out NOW)...

​We are up here in San Fran for Westpex - the largest stamp show in the west and Dave is my Mr. Stamp Guy! ​

We came up from LAX yesterday morning.

I left off with you guys yesterday as I was explaining that although I had plans for brekkie (of course I did - would you expect anything less?!). Once the plan was in action it actually was rather a bit frustrating.

Ya see, we had booked our flights months and months ago. And then received a changed in schedule, which caused me to adjust my original breakfast plans. Not the hugest big deal because the SFO airport actually has a number of vegan options, one of them being Plant Cafe - one of our semi regular stops up here in the San Francisco area. 

The only issue for me was that the location at SFO was counter service rather than table side service, and that most of the menu items were already prepared and pretty close to being ready to go. Food that is on the go is a huge turn off for me.

I realize that this is probably what most people in the airport are looking for....but not me.
In fact it is a turn off (just in case I haven't already said that -lol).
The minute that I saw the food in the glass case, I just couldn't order. And the fact that I was hungry wasn't helping in the least. I'm a picky girl as it is and being hungry only exaggerates my pickiness.

I continued to search high and low for something that would make me even semi happy.  Eventually bringing me back to Plant Cafe where I decided on  ordering a brunch item (or dare I say lunch item at breakfast time) instead of breakfast. 

We both ordered the same and opted for the Wasabi Burger - which of course is vegan!

Once our bellies were full and we were feeling refueled, it was time to catch a shuttle, head to the hotel and then off to WESTPEX...

On the walk over we had passed by The City of Burlington Shorebird Sanctuary - which was pretty much the only thing that was picturesque and thus I ran over to stand on the bridge for a pic!

The rest of the day was in and out of lectures - some quite interesting and others that were given by people who were nothing short of a BORE!

While there Dave's alarm had sounded and while standing amongst the panels and right down the hall from several dealers - he went ahead, placed a bid, won and made an online stamp purchase via auction! 
I told him right then and there and I'll tell you right here and now - this is he addiction and the equivalent of when I am traveling on one trip and  working on the plans/booking another one!

A DAY WELL SPENT IN TUCSON

And then there was the cancelation from the 1933 Graf Zepplin Flight at the Century of Progress Exposition is Chicago...

Do you recall back in February when Dave and I went to Jackson Park in Chicago to check out the location of the 1893 Columbia Exposition - another World's Fair - also set in Chicago (the original buildings still standing were used for both the 1893 and 1933 World's Fair and are now the Museum of Science and Industry).

Isn't it amazing how everything just come together?! It's as though life gives you all of these lovely little gifts wrapped up in a bow - all you have to do is find them!!

Well that was our day, until Dave had sensory overload. But at that point it was nearly 6pm and pretty much the end of the day for everyone.
​So we headed back to our hotel, I changed our dinner reservations - not feeling like a BART ride and we ate at a local Sushi place that was right down the block from where we are staying.

And now it's time to head out again and back over to WESTPEX for Dave and then later this afternoon it'll be my turn and we'll be having Afternoon Tea at The lovely Fairmont San Francisco! WooHoo!!

My Week Ahead

Hello my dear ones!  I woke up this morning to the sound of the falling rain, which I'll admit, I find very calming and relaxing.

Waking up yesterday with a jam packed morning ahead of me in The Bronx, I was disappointed to see the fog and gray overcast outside.  BUT!! As me and Gianna were driving on the Cross Bronx Expressway on our way to Poe Park, the sun suddenly appeared, shining bright and beautiful. 

That was a truly a joy because we did have some walking around to do and let me tell you how much lovelier everything looked in the sunny weather.​

I'll be bringing you the full story about Poe Park and the Poe Park Visitor's Center as well as Poe Cottage in the upcoming weeks in a two part feature in Elisa's Long Island, Outer NYC Boroughs & Travelin' 25.

For now, what I will tell you is that my morning yesterday was a pure delight!  I had an opportunity to meet some of the nicest people during my visit to this historic park, which was opened in 1902 and was named for the American poet.  

Spending time at the Visitor's Center with director Lucy Aponte and NYC Landmark Poe Cottage tour guide, Glen Martinez, was both informative and fun, as they extended their warmth and in-depth knowledge of this Bronx destination.

I wanted to bring you up to speed on the coming month.  With May beginning on Tuesday, I've got some super stuff on my calendar!

Port Jefferson Day Trip
My little trio will be spending the day next weekend in this incorporated village in the town of Brookhaven, Long Island, which dates back to the 17th Century and grew into a an active shipbuilding center in the mid-19th century.

We'll enjoy ourselves walking around, taking in the many sights of Port Jeff's maritime past.  Our list includes: Harborfront Park, The Maritime Explorium and The Thomas Kinkade Gallery.

As always, eating is on our list with two lovely restaurants: The Secret Garden Tea Cafe and Tiger Lily Cafe.
