Fall Festivals & Fun!Howdy!! Another lovely Fall day here on Long Island. I just love Autumn. The weather is so crisp and breezy - time to break out the sweaters - and if you are lucky enough to have the change of seasons where you live, you know how gorgeous everything looks as the leaves change colors. Don't forget about all those harvest festivals. One year, Tedd and I took Gianna and Kelsey out to the North Fork of Long Island to see what was going on at some of the farms and orchards. We stumbled upon one and decided to get out to see what kind of yummy goodies they had. This particular farm stand was full of fruits and vegetables, including a whole display of pumpkins - in all sizes!! They also had roasted corn on the cob! My absolute fave!! The four of us found a place to sit behind the farm retail store to eat our hot, sweet, Long Island corn! The kids had so much fun running around and playing on the swings. I found these old pictures of the kids from that day! Now, the best part of that day was yet to come. After finishing our corn, I knew my day was not going to be complete without some pie - those scrumptious, country pies! We all agreed on a peach pie and an apple pie. The looked so incredible the browned, crispy, pie crusts and the fruit slightly oozing out of the top!! I was dying to dig right in. Now, at the time, we had a Ford Edge with the hatch back. As soon as I placed the pies in the back safe and securely for the ride back home to Remsenburg, I had a quick change of mind. I couldn't fight it any longer! I walked directly into the farm store, picked up some plastic forks, knives and napkins. I walked just as determined back to the car and began cutting into those pies and handed slices to my little gang. There we were in a parking lot of a farm, tailgating pie!!! It was great!!! Thanks Tanya for putting that together!!! | 2 Weeks until Fall!As Elisa is mentioning Fall, I had to stop and think about the date...Guess they are getting an early Fall in New York! I personally love the Fall, it is probably my favorite season, although of course I really love the winter too because I can and will ski up a storm! Anyway here in sunny Southern California we are definitely still experiencing Summer, and I quite sure that even after September 23rd that it'll still feel like summer out here! But I gotta say that I have been thinking about Halloween costumes! What should I be? Any suggestions? When I think of fall, I always think of Apple picking! September is a great time to go pick yourself a barrel of apples! Here is a list of America's Best Apple Picking Farms! And if you too are already prepping and planning for the fall (which is only 2 weeks away) I highly recommend that you go for a lovely fall foliage drive! Here is a list of America's Best Fall Color Drives! September for me is almost like the Quiet before the Storm. Come every October I get hit non-stop! And this year will be no different! First will be our AZ/NM Road-Trip, then the day after we get back it's Cosette's 13th birthday (yikes, I'm gonna have 2 teenagers!) Then of course we have Halloween, then we are back in NYC, following that we are heading to Iceland, back in NYC again and to spend Thanksgiving with Elisa and family for the first time EVER! Dominic's birthday is 2 days after Thanksgiving, then back to California where we will be bombarded with Christmas performances/events/and parties, can't forget St. Nicholas Day (Dec 6th). Of course I gotta fit in plenty of Christmas shopping! Trying to decide if I will be able to squeeze in our first ski trip of the season and head up to Lake Tahoe? Mika's birthday is on Dec 22. Of course we have Christmas, then NYE also happens to be my mom's birthday, and finally New Year's Day (which was my beloved Grandmother's birthday). And then I can quickly catch my breath before all of my upcoming ski trips for the 2015 season! Whew! As for today, well it's none other than Travelin' Tuesday! Elisa has been having some very hectic days back in Long Island, so I'm gonna take the lead and work on Tanya & Elisa's New Mexico Road Trip Blog Part 12. Please remember to check back later today here on the Travelin' Cousins website for all of the new updates about our upcoming trip! I'm also going to be booking a cruise and continue moving forward on a number of other trips that are out there. I've got some running around to do too. Cosette has her first Horseback riding lesson today since the beginning of Summer when her trainer went ill. Luckily her trainer is back up and on her feet after a fall and a terrible blood clot found in her femoral artery that put her in the hospital for weeks. We're so glad that she's okay now! Catch y'all back here later for the NM Road Trip Blog update, and then back here tomorrow for more of your daily report! -T |
