BRAND BALLOT'S TOP 100 MOM BLOGS FOR 2018!!
From San Francisco to San Diego |
Hi folks. We are having quite the heatwave here in New York! My car registered 95 degrees this morning at 10:30am and I think the temps are going to rise even more!
Some days, like today, it's even too hot to go to the pool or the beach (in my humble opinion!). Yesterday, the temperature was a bit cooler, so me and Gianna went to Lifetime Fitness to do some sunbathing and swimming.
Honestly, the heat was terribly oppressive, even under an umbrella! After about ten minutes, I had to get my butt into the pool and wow, was it refreshing! I even did a few laps! All I can say to you, my lovelies, is to stay cool and hydrated today. As for me, while I hate "wasting" lovely sunny days inside, this crazy heat was motivation enough for me to spend most of the day at the beauty parlor. In fact, I'm writing to you from the comfort of my salon chair!
My most common hairstyle lately has been a ponytail with a baseball cap! Perhaps now I will look glamorous again!
Moving right along, I thought I would mention that my latest article featured in ThisIsTheBronx.info, Top 14 Pizzerias in the Bronx had such an amazing response yesterday! Be sure to check it out, should you be frequenting this wonderful northernmost NYC borough and want to try some of the world's best pizza!! If you are experiencing this oppressive heat, whether as a resident or while traveling, and are not content to just sit home or in your hotel, here are a few things to consider doing to enjoy yourself and still remain cool.
5 Activities to Do To
Beat the Heat
1. Take in a movie
Always a good option at anytime and anywhere around the globe. Sitting comfortably in an air conditioned movie theater offers a few hours of non-exerting indoor entertainment, while avoiding the day's heat.
Summer is also known for many new motion picture releases so check your movie guide, grab some popcorn and enjoy! And if it happens to be a Tuesday, take advantage of AMC Theaters Discount Tuesday! (note: movies have increased from $5 to $6) 2. Shop Till You Drop
Where else can you go for free, stay cool and even grab some grub? Why the shopping mall, of course!
These days, shopping malls have reached an all-time high with comfort for its visitors with lots of seating areas, charging stations and lots of natural lighting to make the experience enjoyable. And if you crave a bit of indoor and outdoor shopping, there are many outlets, such as Tanger Outlets, in Deer Park and Riverhead, Long Island (and throughout the country, which gives you the best of both worlds. Large indoor space to both eat and hang out in, a wide array of shops and well manicured outdoor space. 3. A Day of Beauty
.Nothing beats a day of pampering, but especially on a hot, steamy day. No need to feel guilty about missing out on outdoor activities since it is too hot to enjoy.
Catch up on lengthy processes like color, experimenting with a new look, or a keratin treatment to keep the frizz away during the humidity! 4. Explore A Museum
Going to a museum on a hot day is a no brainer, but how many museums have you yet to visit?? For example, right in the borough of Queens, there are more than 22 museums to enjoy, Manhattan has over 25 museums and this does not even include the other NYC boroughs, Long Island and those around the globe!!
And if you are thinking that museums are too boring for kids, think again. My kids had a blast visiting Madame Tussaud's in The Big Apple. Full of fun and cool air, museums can be a full day event to beat the hot outdoor temps. 5. Binge Watch A New Series
Summertime is for being outside, both night and day and most of us feel a bit guilty indulging in the guilty pleasure of sitting in front of the television for hours on end.
However, a hot day is the perfect time to catch up on those series you've been meaning to catch up on. Whether it be in the comfort of your own home or in the confines of your hotel room on your laptop, networks like Hulu and Netflix and other cable stations offer a plethora of shows, with hours and hours of episodes. This summer heat has provided me with lots of time to bing watch several series for which I generally do not have time to watch. Among these have been Lucifer, Medici and the older series, The Borgias. Whatever you do today - have a fabulous day! -Travelin' Elisa xoxo |
