Soul Food Sundays!
And if I might add, with some really great incentives for coming in with a large party of 10 or more people!
Heading to Salt Lake City has become one of my regular winter stops. Not only based on all of the amazing ski resorts that can be reached in just under an hour, but also food - two things that can rule my life!
And what does a vegan girl do to eat after a day of burning calories carving down the all of these slopes?
Well luckily that is never an issue here in Salt Lake City - the issue is more along the lines of there being so many places to choose from and then finally making the choice as to
"What's for Dinner?"
Self described as quirky cafe offering inventive, organic vegan pub grub & local craft beer with a festive atmosphere.
And with offerings of 25% off on Meatless Mondays, Breakfast Served All Day Everyday and Soul Food Sundays, how could you go wrong?!
I've been coming to this quirky diner ever since 2009, and have brought both my vegan and non-vegan friends there to test out the menu. And we have a winner! Everyone walks out of this diner happy!
With the reasonable prices and the awesome selection of grub, you can't possibly go wrong.
They have Appetizers, Salads, Burgers, Sandwiches, Entrees, Breakfast Items, Drinks and Dessert.
The dish called "Chicken Biscuit Pie" which is similar to a pot pie by way of a biscuit stuffed with a thick savory garden vegetable chicken stew. Total comfort food!
My friend ordered a bowl of Chili and I went with the yummy Wok Zen in a Bowl which comes with a choice of grilled portabella mushrooms, "chicken", tofu, or tempeh (I had it with tofu) over wok vegetables and rice tossed into Zen sauce made of garlic, ginger, chilies, tamari, and fresh lime!
Each dish nearly better than the other, trying a taste of everything, enjoying each and every bite and not still not being able to tell which your favorite is - that is when you know that the restaurant is doing something right!
This was my 13 year old Daughters first visit to Vertical Diner and during the meal she was already requesting to come back before we left the area.
So we scheduled the next visit for Sunday night.
Little did we know that it was Soul Food Sunday, and in addition to the regular menu, we were handed an additional menu insert with items such as Butter Beans, Dark Greens, BBQ Tempe Sandwich, Hush Puppies, Mac n Cheeze, Corn Pancakes, and lots lots more!
This time around we sampled the Special of the Night which was BBQ Jackfruit as well as a couple of orders of Mac n Cheeze, Dark Greens, An America Diner (Cosette just couldn't resist), Broccoli n Cheeze, Corn Pancakes (mine and they were oh sooo good!), and a cup of their Winter Squash Soup.
There wasn't a plate at the table that we didn't give a thumbs up to. We may have ordered a bit too much and needed to go containers, but it was all well worth it!
